Diana's Seafood opening restaurant
Well done! Next time you must try the oysters. French Kiss, if on the menu, for sure!
You have $10 for a meal, where do you go in Toronto?
Boccone's deli on Yonge south of St Clair at Rosehill. You can put together a great meal easily under $10. Generous portion of delicious homemade soup with a slice of baked-on-site foccacia bread is only $3.50. Add a side salad and it's about $6 or so. Or you can get combos of different kinds of salads for under $10, all delicious. I can't remember all the prices, but I'm pretty sure a hot pasta and salad is under $10.

Best pizza in Toronto?
This long long and extremely cumbersome thread was started in 2005. Seriously folks, don't you think best Toronto pizza needs a new start?
President's Choice Black Label
I really like the BL fig cabernet wine jelly. Tastes great with aged cheddar, morbier and creamy brie. In fact I like the BL apple butter too, and that tastes great with aged cheddar too.
Niagara Street Cafe
I've heard that chefs Tobey Nemeth & Michael Caballo are taking over Niagara Street Cafe in April and the new name will be Edulis.
cheap and cheerful around Main and Danforth
Not to mention being disadvantaged by being next door to the shudder-inducing filthy eyesore that is Bill's Fish & Chips, even if it is no longer in operation.... or is it, I can't tell - it looks the same except more decrepit than it did 20 years ago.
Diana's Seafood opening restaurant
Just two dozen oysters and a bottle of prosecco :) ... the dishes I saw going by to get served sure looked good though.
The place is not that big, hence the line-up on a busy day during this holiday season. No reservations except for groups of 8 or larger. But they do have a large enclosed heated patio that we were told they were going to open up for the dinner service. Apparently they are expanding in the near future by building a permanent addition to replace the patio.
Diana's Seafood opening restaurant
Finally made it to Diana's. It was packed yesterday, had to wait in line for about 15 minutes. But well worth it. The oysters were superb! -- Viginica, Colville Bay, Sony Brook NY and French Kiss -- all delicious especially the French Kiss. Our server was helpful and friendly, taking the time to explain the different kinds of oysters on offer, even though it was busy. We let him choose the first dozen for us. I will definitely go back. Loved it.
Do people seriously like Mandarin?
Went to the Mandarin for a funeral lunch reception this week. It was perfect. We had a room to ourselves for about 60 people. There was types of food to suit everyone's taste and plenty of it, including pizza. So to the OP, it's not always about the food or the value.
New to Barrie, seeking advice on where to (and not to) eat...
for a decent old-school all-day breakfast, try Andy's Place on Hart at Dunlop.
Gill Japanese - Yonge & St. Clair
Haven't been but I don't hold up much hope for Gill in that location. There have been so many restaurants trying to make a go of it in that upper-level spot over the years. The last one, some mediterranean place, lasted less then a year.
President's Choice Black Label
I have tried one black label product and loved it so much I went back to get more.... the marinara pasta sauce.
Pumpkin Foods in Toronto
Not crazy about conventional pumpkin pie but like the one from Summerhill because it's pumpkin CHEESECAKE pie!!!

Pubs 2011
I'm wrong. Met with a some friends for dinner a few years ago and either we didn't know about the rooftop patio or it didn't exit yet but we ended up at the front street-level patio with cars rushing by, a stinky sewer by us and smokers all around us... don't remember what I ate.
Pubs 2011
Sorry I can't make a recco as far as eating goes because it's been a while since I've been there. But there was no rooftop patio in my Pilot days and I've only seen pictures but I suggest you check it out before the weather turns :)

Diana's Seafood opening restaurant
thank you for your detailed review. I love Diana's as a seatood supplier so hope the best for this restaurant venture but agree with you that it's an odd location for this kind of venture.
Pubs 2011
I could not agree more. I think I may have actually lived in the back there for a while many years ago :)
Tell me about East York
lol, it's not East York and neither is Coxwell & Gerrard where the OP is based so I don't know why the question is about East York when they want to go anywhere wthin 15-20 minute drive. Le Pap on the Park is about a five minute drive from Coxwell & Gerrard and the patio is terrific. Some items are hit and miss but generally food and service good. Family friendly too.
Tell me about East York
If you head south on Coxwell and turn right at Eastern, just down a bit across from Macdonalds is Le Papillon on the Park. Really nice second-floor patio amid the treetops overlooking the park. Free parking in the park as well.

Mad Michael's - BBQ near Midland
If you go, make reservations for the patio, weather permitting. Inside is okay if need be but you want to be on the charming river-side patio if possible. Haven't been this summer yet but when I drove by earlier today the patio was full. Glad he's doing well.

Morels in S. Ontario
Found a couple of yellows on my cottage property in North Simcoe this week. They weren't too big but we cooked em up anyway because I had accidently cut them off with my leaf raking. Hmm, I guess then technically I didn't really "find" them. Anyway, hoping for bigger ones this weekend cuz I'll be looking!
Seriously gross lunch at Pickle Barrel Y&E
PB is the last or never place I would think of to eat mussels.
Do people seriously like Mandarin?
I agree with others that Mandarin is great for large family gatherings of diverse ages especially because a good number of my extended family are those who LOVE Mandarin. I like the vegetables... cooked but always crispy and colourful. Certainly I like the food there better than another place I'm sometimes dragged to... the Emperor... Imperial??
