Cheap, Everyday Eats in Carroll Gardens
I don't know but I bet someone at Moonshine or Jalopy nextdoor could tell you.
By the way, the south end of Columbia Street is getting better and better! Jalopy just got their liquor license, the building nextdoor is planning to open some kind of restaurant and a block north there will be a new coffeehouse which will have beer and wine and evening performances.
PARK SLOPE FOOD COOP: what's good this week? (pt 3)
That's great news about the husk cherries! I had dinner at Monkeytown in Williamsburg this week, and before we ordered they brought out little dishes of them for us to try. They said they got them from a farmers market and explained how to eat them. I will look for them at the co-op, thanks!

That deli next to Moonshine closed recently. Too bad, their falafel sandwiches were great.
Has anyone mentioned Bagels by the Park, on Smith St at President St? Cozier than the average bagel place, great bagels and their tofu cream cheese is tasty. Has anyone tried the other sandwiches on the menu?
FYI It can get chaotic in there; just know that you order everything in back and then wait in the front to get your food and pay.

The new Kashi frozen dinners are pretty good. I tried the Black Bean Mango. Whole grains pilaf, black beans, chunks of peppers, carrots and mangoes in a mangoey sauce. Scrumptious for a frozen dinner and only about $3.
Red Hook Ball Fields 2007
Just returned from the soccer fields - what a great time! I recommend you bring a blanket to sit on - there were not many tables on this Sunday afternoon. Long lines for most tents, so we sampled from the three tents on the end of the Clinton side, which were not so crowded. The tent with the kabobs grilling also had these softball-sized potato, beef, and rice balls wrapped in dough. Scoop on some of their homemade green salsa. It's just a little spicy and adds some tangy flavor to the fillings. Went well with a big cup of cold horchata, a milky sweet drink. We also got a cup of the shrimp ceviche. Tasty and refreshing but a little watery. The highlight for me was a huge, savory plantain with a dollop of sour cream. On our way out I got a ziploc bag of mango slices with "todos" -- everything -- on it: hot sauce, salt and lemon juice. For those of us who want sweet, savory, salty and spicy at once! We'll be back soon.
Good place to eat lunch by myself on 5th Ave, Park Slope?
Los Pollitos is casual. It's about three blocks above Union. The veggie fajitas use a generous amount of juicy portabella mushrooms and they make the guacamole on the spot.

There are curried cashews bagged in the bulk aisle. Garam Masala. oh. my. god. Talk about crack.
Sunday Brunch in Carroll Gardens
We had nice brunch at Robin Des Bois last Saturday, late afternoon. The norwegian eggs benedict was solid, with a side of roasted potatoes with rosemary. Good service, no wait, relaxing patio; we lingered for a while without feeling rushed. They have a great brunch special - I think it was $12 for the meal including bfast cocktail and coffee.
Pioneer Bar B Q in Red Hook
I agree. Last year I got some bbq tofu that was gross. And the guy waiting on us was rude in a way that was trying to be funny, but it wasn't. The "bad art museum" on the walls is hilarious though.
