El Sabrosito Truck on St. Nicholas & 186th St?

A friend recommended a new kitchen truck, mentioning fresh nopales, and fabulous gordita bread but before I head up there, I'm wondering if I can get confirmation that it exists! I wonder if she has the name wrong b/c I can't find anything about it online, let alone HERE!

A modest Thanksgiving out for two

I"m hopping back on in case someone is searching this convo for thanksgiving 2010. Caisimir was just what the doctor ordered - French bistro, with dinner about 19 bucks if memory serves. delicious roast butternut squash, green beans, roast turkey, pumpkin pie. (my son had a hamburger and was very pleased with his choice) The staff was very warm, as was the atmosphere. None of that stick up the heiner holiday formality (that leads to those 72 dollar prix fixe)

and next door, Handsome Dick Manitoba was offering free pie w/ happy hour! If I didn't have mother in law and kids in tow, I would have totally gone there.

Child-friendly dinner near W. 50th & 9th?

I like Tulcingo del Valle
www.tulcingorestaurant.com

It's a Mexican diner.

The food is great, the waitstaff is kind to children (and other humans) and the price is RIGHT, baby!

Anyone tried the new Halal cart at 4th and Atlantic?

I had a falafel there today as Al-Farooq mosque was letting out. It hit the spot for me - pita was nice and thick - not stale at all, veggies were fresh, and the sauce engendered a certain tang.
Perhaps it is improving?

It's name is Halal Paradise, and the address painted on the side gives its coordinates as Union Ave.

where do i find NYC cheesecake that IS NOT lemon-flavored?

D’aiuto’s ...although I have a major beef with them for changing their name to New York New York. Oh hell, I spent over a decade thinking their name was Baby Watson before finding out that Baby Watson is the name of the cheesecake.

What's your favorite small NYC food festival?

Not something where you have to shell out $85 bucks to stand around the Puck Building, but more the obsessive, how many things can we make out of a pickle sort.

NY for Christmas w/toddler - help me fill in the blanks

My babies are getting a bit long in the tooth, but I still have some asterisks on my restaurant suggestions to indicate which restaurants were extra open to receiving them...
http://www.ayunhalliday.com/guide.html

diner wise I like joe jr and the lyric - both have nice views, nice staffs...

I love me some Chinatown on Xmas! And I find the humbler the location, the warmer the staff to receiving delegations from the land of Feral Young.

yes, funniduck, they're both open - neither take reservations, though. I think I may try to see if the lady would be amenable to being hauled down to casimir on ave B, also open, and w/in my purse at 19.95 a person.

Amy Ruth's in Harlem has what looks to be a very nice meal for less than 30 bucks, and everyone I talked to there was so friendly - no reservations...

unfortunately my MOTHER-IN-LAW DOES have reservations...about Amy Ruths! which has me in a non-holiday mood, so I'm off to inquire about other choices.

she has it in her head that we should go to EJ's Luncheonette, which is 16 bucks. But when I was arguing against it (b/c I wanted to go to Amy Ruths) she suddenly attached to Nick's, a Greek Place which will cost double. Oh my.

Maybe I need some outer borough suggestions too....

Reserving basement rooms at Congee Village

Has anyone held a gathering in one of Congee Village's over-the-top Versailles-meets-Chinatown basement rooms?

I know reservations can be iff-y here - can anyone recommend a banquet manager type contact who might be able to ensure that things run somewhat according to plan?

Also - ordering in advance... anyone done it w/ success?

To complicate matters this event has to go down on a Saturday night...and there will be around 12 guests.

Thanks so much for sharing what you know...
