Extra Virgin Olive Oil

This subject has been beaten to death a bit on the forum, but your best bet for unadulterated EVOO is Costco and California Olive Ranch, which interestingly is actually Spanish owned.

Personally, I find that Trader Joe's EVOO line up weak and flavorless, but some consumers may line the milder flavor profile.

Prime Rib in San Diego

Craftsman Tavern in Encinitas serves Prime Rib Saturdays for $24 bucks. Plus they've got the sound issues under control.

Anywhere to get Russian River Pliny the Elder in San Diego

You're right I overstated things a bit as Pliny the Elder is readily available in CA. PTE apparently has limited distribution on the East Coast.

With that said, most out-of-state beer fans I know have had no difficulty getting their hands on a couple of bottles.

Anywhere to get Russian River Pliny the Elder in San Diego

Pliny the Elder is a damn fine beer, but IMHO any IPA from Alpine Brewery is better. Alpine is truly a world class cult brewery whose beers simply are not available outside the SD area. Heck, Alpine beers are barely available with SD County other than from the brewery -- hopefully Green Flash will change that.

Just my two cents.

Anywhere to get Russian River Pliny the Elder in San Diego

Why are you trying to locate a No. Cal. beer that is widely available throughout the US in one of the world's best microbrewery cities?

San Diego's breweries make numerous local beers equal to or superior to Russian River Brewery Co.

If you're into beer make the effort to visit Alpine Brewery; Alesmith; Ballast Point; Stone Brewery etc.

Just sayin'

Deep Fried Turkey & Cotton Seed Oil???

FYI, cottonseed oil = Crisco. Crisco is simply an acronym for crystallized cottonseed oil -- the same stuff any good southern cook will fry their chicken in.

Besides All Clad- any amazing less expensive cookware?

Walmart's line of Tramontina Tri-Ply is excellent. Also Sur La Table's house brand and Caphalon both sell Tri-Ply cookware that is less expensive than All Clad.

How to avoid mold on bread?

Freeze it. It's essentially the only way to store bread more than a few days.

Blood Sausage, Boudin Noir, Morcilla, Black Pudding etc.

As with all things meat, check out Iowa Meat farms. Heck, they'll even make sausage for you if you have a recipe.

I don't mean to quibble, but it's rule number one "you don't talk about fight club?" I believe it's also rule number two.

Post Traumatic TJ's Stress: Please Help me Make Better PIcks Next Time

All right, I'll bite.

TJ's frozen pizzas, especially the French style tarts/flat breads, are excellent and make a quick light dinner with a side salad.

TJ also sells refrigerated pizza dough, that can be used to make great calzones. Slap some sauce and fillings on the dough, fold it in half, make some slits, brush with olive oil and bake. (See the blog 'Dinner a Love Story' for specifics.)

Also TJ's jarred simmer sauces are excellent. In particular the masala and green curry are solid. Simply brown some cut-up chicken pieces and then simmer in the sauce for 10 minutes. Service with rice.

Is it depressing to dine out on Thanksgiving?

Like any meal, it all depends on who you're with.

Dining out on Thanksgiving can be great fun and relaxing. The only downside is there's no place to lie down after eating.

Substitutes for Cento Light Tuna Packed in Olive Oil

Genova comes in both 5 and 3 ounce cans. For some reason, some stores only seem to stock the 3 oz. cans. Regardless, I buy Genova by the case from Amazon

San Diego has numerous farmer's markets and a good variety of Asian markets, which typically offers good discounts on seafood and produce. I'm partial to Zion Market.

freeze parm regg

I just use a 1 gallon Ziploc bag. Works great, the Parm will last for months.

Also Ziploc bags work great for citrus (lemon and limes). The citrus will last over a month in the fridge no problem.

+1 on the Genova (made by Chicken of the Sea). Best olive oil packed canned tuna for the price. Many store carry it now and its readily available on Amazon.

Large tins of olive oil

Uh, actually that's not what the CI article said. The CI article explained that there was no perceivable difference in flavor between regular olive oil and EVOO when heated. The heat dissipated the phenols and other flavor compounds of the EVOO. Olive oil, even when heated still has a unique taste, just as corn oil etc.

Personally, I'm of the Thomas Keller/Bobby Flay camp wherein I use Canola oil for all my cooking.

Large tins of olive oil

Cheapy olive oil is great for cooking, and as noted by Cook's Illustrated once heated the brand doesn't matter.

However, for mind blowing EVOO, pick up a 2.5L tin of Oro Bailen or Venta Del Baron from Olive Oil Lovers, or Señorío de Vizcántar from La Tienda. Those Spanish oils will blow your mind on how great olive oils can be.

Stateside, Costco and California Olive Ranch both make great EVOO, but are a bit milder for domestic tastes.
