Late Night Chocolate Cake and Cocktails? Yes, it's my Bday
So, my dream situation would be a tall chocolate layer cake and booze. Diner, fancy hotel bar, whatever, it doesn't matter. Most chocolate cake will be good enough for me. Prefer the good old floury kind. I may be forced to go to Canter's and buy an entire cake, so please, let me hear any suggestion! Must be open till 11pm, at least. BYOB okay.
Thanks a million, hounds!
advice on chopping chocolate into chunks for cookies
Hi bakers!
I would love any advice on chopping a big ,thick, dark chocolate bar (trader joes's pound plus, to be exact) into small chunks. so far it's been impossible for me to avoid creating a bunch of chocolate shavings and dust. I'd hate to waste half the bar.
Thanks!
weird and wonderful fruit?
i remember this too! i think it was brighton beach... something about each piece of fruit being perfect and the owner being kind of a diva, hehe.
weird and wonderful fruit?
Hey! Thanks for the tip.... i picked up a slightly exotic (to me) cactus pear at Fairway today... I didn't really care for it... so seedy and really painful to handle! Maybe it's not best for cutting open and eating as is?
Anywhere in Brooklyn or Manhattan to get hush puppies?

weird and wonderful fruit?
Hi!
I just listened to a great interview with Adam Leith Gollner, author of The Fruit Hunters, A Story of Nature, Adventure, Commerce and Obsession, on the Splendid Table podcast
(http://splendidtable.publicradio.org/listings/090725/)
and I'm now DYING to find some tasty, special fruit that i have likley never tasted. Unfortunately, most of the fruit he talks about cannot be purchased in the States... but I figure with all the ethnic markets in the city I should be able to round up some good things.
Any reccommendations?
Oh, I'm not a big fan of super..uh... smelly things by the way :)
Thanks!
fresh CHEAP fish in brooklyn or queens
Thanks everyone, for the swift responses. My pre-party anxiety has been slightly ameliorated :)
fresh CHEAP fish in brooklyn or queens
Hey all! I'm throwing a party this weekend and need to buy enough fish to make fish and chips for 20+ people. Yes, I know it's important to buy quality seafood, but I'm poor and know there are bargains out there to be had. I have gathered from old posts that Hong Kong Supermarket has good deals, and a friend has mentioned Costco. Costco?! I'd prefer to support a local asian market but I'm open to anything.
Also any reccomendations for type of fish would be appreciated... I know I probably can't afford fresh halibut or anything :)
Thanks a million!
Does anyone have a recipe for a low-fat, crispy, cracker-like chocolate cookie?
try 101cookbooks.com. she has amazing recipes, including cookies that are as healthy as you would want a cookie to be.

vegan softserve???
of course immediately after i posted my question, i remembered a couple intriguing frozen treats... babycakes is advertising ice cream sandwiches made with sorbet and their cookies, and lifethyme on 6th ave has homemade frozen "ice cream" sandwiches as well... those i'm confused about because i thought they said "raw" but raw things, according to the doctrines of raw food dieting, can't be frozen i don't think... ? BTW i tryyyy to avoid soy
still none of this is soft serve! all the yogurt hype and blizzard ads are making me crazy! i'll have to try the atlas by nyu.
vegan softserve???

i've been waiting for a year for someone else to ask this question but i give up...
