Its a tie: A restaurant/bar in northern Spain where the kitchen was a tiny stove and one or two hot plates. The upper half of the kitchen was a haze of hot olive oil. Also, the home of the parents of a former exchange student from Poland. Again, a tiny kitchen, but ohdeargod the eastern European food! Mom could cook!
My current drink of choice:
Good red wine. Good bourbon.
I really wish I could:
My favorite comfort food:
Baked beef cakes (from an old Gaffers & Satler cookbook)
My top 5 favorite restaurants:
Zin (Healdsburg, CA), City Market (Luling, TX), Rosa's (Tucson, AZ), Pahui'a (Big Island, HI), Lawry's (Los Angeles, CA).
My most tattered cookbooks:
Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book (honest!), Los Angeles Times California Cookbook, Polish Cooking by Marzenna Kasprzycka, Cocina de la Familia by Marilyn Town Tausend , all of the Burt Wolf series.
