Thanks much for the suggestions. I imagine over the next few months, we can check out all of these.

By the way, RCC, Boqueria is definitely on my radar.

Having lunch with my girlfriend, whose office just relocated to the area. Looking for something good - could be paninis, Japanese...really anything that makes you excited to go there.

Thanks in advance.

Your East Village go-tos?

An enthusiastic second to Sobaya.

Cayucos for Labor Day Weekend. What's Good?

i know this is a little late in the game, but i do want to make mention of the fact that i discovered The Little Market on a recent drive-thru up highway 1. i was fortunate enough to be there on saturday when they were grilling lamb over a wood fire. the sandwich i had, with a mint yogurt sauce, was divine. i also sampled two other sandwiches - including an awesome grilled-vegetable panini. these were not ordinary sandwiches.

this place is a treasure and a true find for foodies traveling between la and san francisco.

Havana Chelsea Closed

well, i guess there can be a silver lining behind some awful news. but, as i said, it's just a rumor. i hope it works out too though.

Havana Chelsea Closed

i've heard that they may reopen in the east village. but it's only a rumor.

Havana Chelsea Closed

i was just by it yesterday, and the counter was gone. it was well on its way to be completely gutted. it's a shame. i always liked the neighborhood/local vibe to the place, but, in the end, i think the neighborhood did it in.

just passing along the info.

i don't know the westerly at all - which is the reason that prompted me to write this post. thanks much for the info.

i know wondee and have enjoyed the food; plataforma is a place i've read about - no doubt here, in fact - but haven't stopped in yet. shimizu is new to me as well.

ah, sullivan street, though...i do love their celery root pizza, as well as their bread.

thanks much.

melinda's hot sauce

it's really not hard to find. i have found it in various dagostinos, fairway, westside market, gardent of eden (there's one on 23rd between 6th and 7th). i really love the stuff. keep an eye out and good luck.

Muffaletta in the Big Apple--does it exist?

perhaps you can tell me, but i think muffaletta is a sicilian word for a special kind of round loaf. yes? no? in either case, new orleans has had a vibrant italian (and sicilian) population. central grocery is credited with creating the muffaletta in 1906...by a sicilian owner.

thanks much for the info.

i know amy's and a few of the restaurants, though rinconcito is totally unknown to me. i will definitely check that out. i remember when kashkaval was simply a cheese shop. interesting to see that it has expanded.

yeah, i know wine is hard. when i originally cased the area, i saw a shop across from the alvin alley dance theatre. also, there's 57th street wines, but i was wondering if there was something i had missed.

thanks much for the imput.

cheers!

dive bar, on 96th and amsterdam, does a pretty decent one - actually
better than decent. i am from new orleans, and i remember when central
grocery used to make them to order.

alas...

i know the area a little, but looking for any recommendations for just about anything - wine shops, cheese, fish, restaurants, coffee, bread. anything that might be your fave and could soon be mine.

many thanks.

Looking for great coffee near Belden Stratford Hotel

i totally lucked out. the person i was working with on my project had his own espresso machine. the sight of that little machine caused all my fears to evaporate.

thanks for all the suggestions. i'll be back, so i'll check out intelligensia and sienna coffee.

Looking for great coffee near Belden Stratford Hotel

jj and bryan thanks much. i thought i had ventured into a wilderness with the question. i sort of googled the nearby starbucks locations as a last resort, but i was looking for something local if possible.

again, thank you both for your replies.
