Zam Zam market closing in Culver City

I spoke with one of the guys there and they said they are going to reopen in Hawthorne which might as well mean it's closed for me forever.

Summer Sausage in LA

Fyi, I just went to pick up my weekly stash of biltong. They are out of summer sausage until Thursday, on Saturday someone bought all of it.

Summer Sausage in LA

European sausage kitchen in Beverly Hills makes a great one. Also try their South African biltong. I'm partial to the turkey biltong, it's delicious.

Former restaurant in the Oviatt Building?

Bernard's, Rex, Cicada. Bang, bang, bang? Hopefully this will kill the BBB meme.

Great Lunch at Sushi Kiyono

I just sit down and he feeds me one piece at a time until I'm full. The tuna hand roll was a negi toro, a very nice sized one too.

What's the original The Original Thai BBQ joint?

Jeez, it seems you might get more info from Yelp. What's with the cryptic responses here?

Great Lunch at Sushi Kiyono

I need to point out that when I have my omakase there he serves me one piece of each sushi because that's what I asked for years ago. If you go with your friend just let him know to give you each one piece of sushi so that you can see all he has to offer. He almost always finishes off with a crab and lobster roll which is baked and might fall into the gloppy category but I absolutey love it.

Great Lunch at Sushi Kiyono

I too use to avoid this place until I saw this post years ago. The previous owner was horrible, that is no longer the case with the current owner. I've never had anything that wasn't fresh nor have I had oversized sushi. Kawasaki is a real gentleman as is the current owner.

Yes, Kawasaki San is there and I sit with him all the time. On this I have to disagree with you jessejames. This is my go to lunch spot for omakase and Kawasaki San is my goto itamae.

Good prices on fresh basil anywhere? Pasadena area.

Any Persian or middle eastern market will have a large selection at the best price.

Oxnard - Family Friendly

Second this place. We eat here often when we are in Oxnard. Check out the Jolly Oyster nearby in Ventura too. Not a restaurant though. More of a place to buy and shuck your own oysters and clams on the beach. Bonus? You are allowed to bring and consume alcohol there.

Okumura in Encino

Just OK. I've gotten the Omakase there before its nothing special, run of the mill cuts of fish. The last time I went I didn't get a bunch of things I ordered because he was too busy catering to a Japanese four top. The items, however, were on my bill. 4 on 6 as Sgee mentioned is superior.

The combo is chicken biryani, a choice of two stews you get one meat one veggie (from the steam table) couple pieces of tandoori chicken a piece of ground meat kabob and naan for $10.00. On Fridays they have the biryani already packed and stacked for the mosque crowd.

I think labels table is the best. I think when you factor in the price it's the bestest! Better?

A pastrami sandwich as good as Langers

I have. I think I tried it based on your recommendation from a previous post. I like it but I'm always fighting between the pastrami or my deviant creation a hot tongue sliced thick on toasted sourdough with mayo, onions and tomatoes. Honestly it's a battle for which I like more.

A pastrami sandwich as good as Langers

"As good as langers IF not better when you factor in the price." Meaning I think it's as good as Langers and better when you consider the price, if price matters. Otherwise it's as good.

A pastrami sandwich as good as Langers

It's the quintessential deli; dreary room and old regulars. I stand by my comparison to langers.
