anniversary dinner in oakland/berkeley

Hi Folks,

I am taking my wife out this Wednesday for an anniversary dinner and used to frequent restaurants in that area (moved years ago). Any current suggestions for good quality ( no sushi) in the area? Thanks in advance, Bob

Any ideas in the walnut creek...lafayette area??? i am fighting with another party for the room at lark creek, but they have first dibs. there will be about 15 people. Price is not a major concern...i'd like the experience to be special.

Restaurant Suggestions in Walnut Creek

in walnut creek: very good seafood/walnut creek yacht club; expensive and very good italian/prima; expensive small plates/va de vi. have fun, bob

visit to Prima last night in WC

My wife and I ate at Prima last night for the first time in a couple of years, and it was incredible. I know Prima has fallen from the SF Chron's grace (I believe they used to be included regularly on the top 100), however, this is one of the three best meals we have had recently (the other two being dopo and marinus in carmel valley). The waiter was incredibly knowledgeable on wine, never hesitating on recommendations (all good).

My wife started with a panzanella (tomato/bread salad) and had a risotto with gorgonzola/pancetta, that she kept repeating, "this is amazing". I had a simple mixed lettuce salad with balsamic to start and had a "melt in your mouth" lobster ravioli, perfectly sauced.

definitely worth a visit, but pricey.

Casa Orinda - i keep hearing both sides, any recent reports?

"cheesy oysters" is right on, we were there on father's day, and I got chicken and wife had veal...they actually do kids plates of prime rib, which my youngest daughter liked.

Dessert tomorrow night in Berkeley/Oakland

thanks all...we ended up at eccolo as my wife wanted to check out a couple of shops on 4th street. uninspired dinner, but an inspired dessert...a chocolate cake with caramel that almost threw me into a diabetic frenzy!

thanks...anyone else????

Dessert tomorrow night in Berkeley/Oakland

okay folks, taking the wife out for dinner tomorrow night somewhere in berkeley/oakland. Im not a big dessert fan, but my wife is. Who's got the best desserts currently out of places we like and have been to in the past? Such as, Dopo, chez panisse, pizzaiola, rivoli, lalime's, a cote, oliveto...I'd like her to be wowed.

Actually, funny story...we had a very good dinner awhile back at Pizzaiola (spelling?), however, my wife's selection for dessert was this peach melba type thing with ice cream, and it was blistering hot. within seconds, the entire dessert was reduced to a swamp. My wife's review: "This is bull----".

thanks,

bob

SPECIAL DINNER FOR EIGHT NEAR WALNUT CREEK?

I agree...walnut creek yacht club is consistently good...va de vi would be good for the sharing aspect, but can get pricey if you go wild there like me.

dopo reservations???

Robert, thanks. I actually called after posting and the fellow that answered said they do now take reservations for parties of 5 or more. He indicated lunch is generally not a long wait.

bob

dopo reservations???

hello, wanted to try for lunch today...do they still not take any reservations.

thanks!
