Jacksonville Rec??

What area of town will you be staying?

Anything - Jacksonville/Orange Park

Try Pompeii Pizza on Park, just past Kingsley heading towards Fleming Island. Coal-fired pizza. Service can be slow but, but that oven gives the nice browned bubbles on the crust. My favorite is the meatball ricotta pizza.

Oriental Bakery in Jacksonville?

Try Aroma Corner. It's a small shop in a strip mall on the corner of Old Kings Road and Baymeadows Road. It's in the plaza across from the Winn Dixie where the gas station is.

They're one of the only places I've found Boba tea as well. They have a small dessert case and everything I've tried has been pretty good. It's been a number of months since I've been there, but I think I remember seeing moon cakes before.

Bowl of Pho in Jacksonville

I was driving down Baymeadows Rd. yesterday and saw a new place called Bowl of Pho. It's in the old Cheeburger Cheeburger space. Has anyone been? There is one review on yelp that sounds promising.

Bamboo Creek in JAX?

Looks like they're open! Drove by and saw a big sign that said open Tuesday, July 14, 2009. There were cars in the parking lot this afternoon.

Just moved to JAX... need to eat! =0)

They've moved to Baymeadows Road. In between I95 and Philips Highway. I think it's the old Bennigan's location.

Jacksonville Dining

San Marco:

Thai Bistro in San Marco. They're under new management, so the prices have gone down a few bucks but most of the dishes are the same. Word of warning: the crispy spring rolls are not nearly as good as before. I was there recently and they were way too greasy. Also, the mango and sticky rice was definitely a miss.

Bistro Aix does great potato chips with blue cheese fondue. But for entrees, I prefer BBs on Hendricks Avenue.

Metro Diner. They made a great breakfast. Be prepared for a wait.

Downtown:
Chew. More upscale cuisine. I've enjoyed many a lunch there.

International Cafe. Open for lunch only. Small hole in the wall that makes a great cuban sandwich.

Burrito Gallery. Nice selection, better than the chains. Full bar and open evenings.

Riverside/Avondale:

O'Brothers Irish Pub. Decent fish and chips if you can't get to The Prince of Wales in St. Augustine.

Mossfire Grill for Southwest cuisine.

Casbah is by far my favorite middle eastern restaurant in the city. I will admit to bias since they make their dishes just like my mom and grandmother did.

Baymeadows/Southside:

Blue Bamboo on Southside is a great for asian fusion.

I haven't been to 13 Gypsies as mentioned by another poster, but their sister restaurant Sangria House off Southside is very good.

Pattaya Thai & Lemongrass. Both decent thai places.

There are also about 5 Indian restaurants on Baymeadows alone. I enjoyed meals at Red Chilies and 5th Element.

A friend recommended Mandaloun for Lebanese. Haven't had a chance to eat there yet.

Chains:

The Loop. Good for a burger and shake.

European Street. Great sandwiches and beer selection.

The many Ale Houses. Always busy, pretty good bar food.

That's all I can think of right now.

Downtown Jacksonville Restaurant Recommendations?

Also check out Chew Restaurant and La Cena downtown. Both are about 3 blocks from the Times Union Center.

Chocolate cake in Jacksonville

Probably too late to respond, but maybe try Edgewood Bakery, Let Them Eat Cake or Cami Cakes for cupcakes.

recommendation for Jacksonville lunch

You may want to check out the San Marco area near the Southbank. There are a number of lunch spots: European Street Cafe, Poms Thai Bistro, Metro Diner, Tidbits, BBs and Bistro Aix. All of these are a short drive from the square where there are a number of shops you can browse.

Jacksonville Riverfront

There are a bunch of good lunch spots in downtown Jacksonville about 5 or 6 blocks from your hotel. Chew (more upscale) and Burrito Gallery on Adams Street. Near Hemming Plaza there is Magnificat Cafe (French inspired) and International Cafe which has a killer cuban sandwich.

The Landing is kind of a culinary wasteland. Bourbon Bayou or Bennys Steakhouse are decent - owned by the same people. Also, Mongos is a Mongolian barbecue which can be fun if you have never been before.

If you drive over the bridge to San Marco, you can hit Metro Diner (local place for homestyle food), Bistro Aix or BBs (both more upscale open for lunch and dinner) and check out Mathews Market for pre-made meals/salads/sandwiches.

Steak 'n Shake....what's the good word?

I'm a fan of the Frisco Melt - but it is pretty greasy so I don't indulge often. The fries are so-so, but the shakes are pretty good.

Jacksonville, Fl French Food??

Pastiche in Riverside. I've only heard good things.
http://www.mypastiche.com/

Also, the French Pantry is a very popular bakery/lunch spot, but they're not open for dinner.

St. Augustine-Please Help :)

I don't think they're open anymore. I was walking around the old city a few months ago and it was a totally different restaurant. Anyone know what happened or if they moved?

Best Florida Road Food

Make sure you try the sour orange pie.

Great restaurants in Jacksonville, FL

Not sure of the hours, but here are some to try:

Riverside:
Pastiche - French cuisine

Southside:
The French Pantry - Not open for dinner, always packed for lunch, great bakery.
Sangria House - A Spanish tapas place on the Southside.

Downtown:
La Cena - Italian, I think it's only open for dinner.

San Marco:
Corner Brasserie - American/European cuisine.
For wine bars, try The Grotto or Simons

Dim Sum in Jacksonville ( yes, really!!!)

I haven't found one. Thanks for posting this. I'm planning to go this weekend.

Jacksonville and Beaches!

Gotta love those dragon whiskers! Glad you enjoyed it.

Jacksonville and Beaches!

Welcome back!

There have been some good additions to downtown. I second Burrito Gallery, but also would recommend Chew and Cafe Nola. I've heard good things about La Cena but haven't been yet. International Cafe does a great cuban sandwich.

For small plates/tapas, I can't think of the place you mentioned in San Marco. But try try Sangria House on the Southside or Pastiche in Riverside. Also, Twisted Martini - there is one at The Landing and another in Ponte Vedra.

The old standby's are still kicking: French Pantry, Metro Diner, Tidbits, European Street Cafe. I suggest you pick up a Jacksonville Magazine. Most of the recommendations people have given are in the dining guide.

Downtown Jacksonville Dining Week Aug 20-26

An FYI for Jacksonville Chowhounds:

Next week is the inaugural Downtown Dining Week. A group of downtown restaurants have put together a three course prix fixe menu for $25 a person.. 15 restaurants are participating, unfortunately one of them is Hooters. Even so, it's nice to see something like this starting up in Jacksonville.

Here is the website with more info and menus.

Food around Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra

I've been to Mackenzie's Steakhouse for a dinner party and enjoyed it. Plus, they have a deck and band if you enjoy that atmosphere. http://www.mackenziessteakhouse.com/

There is also Pom's Thai Bistro. I personally love the Rama Thai Delight. http://www.thesanmarcogroup.com/ppv/

Al's Pizza is a local pizza place. http://www.alspizza.com/

Jacksonville Beach is about 15-20 minutes from Sawgrass. You may want to check out some options there. I don't hit the beach often so I can't give many personal recommendations, but here is a local dining guide with more beach listings. http://www.jacksonvillemag.com/pdfs/dining_guide.pdf

Best Fast Food Chain Breakfast Item

Absolutely the Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuit. Too bad I usually crave one on Sundays.

Pancakes anyone?

Do you have Dennys? I've liked their pancakes.

Original Pancake House just opened in my area and I have yet to have a good pancake there. When I went, I ordered potato pancakes and it tasted like burnt eggs. Completely inedible to me. I also tried one of the regular pancakes that came with my mother's meal and didn't like that either.

Is it a regional difference? I live in the south and all the pancakes here are light and fluffy. OPH seemed to have an a lot more egg in the batter which produced a thin, heavy pancake.

Jacksonville Indian

Have you tried Red Chilies on Baymeadows? I've only tried Indian food once and it was at Red Chilies. I'm definitely going to try Cilantro and just wondered if you've compared the two.
