What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid?

My mom didn't have much money but she always managed to make good food with what little she had. She did manage to give us healthy items because they were good for us but she never shoved anything down our throats that we didn't like.

Even the stuff I hated, like okra and cauliflower, other people loved hers better than others. It's the ability to understand food and as you said, dr. pepper knowing your kids likes and dislikes. My friends kids hate her cooking but they're too young to express it, and we're all too chicken to tell her that her cooking is atrocious.

Roasted Sardines with Smashed Potatoes

If the potatoes are cooked too long, they will be too soft and fall apart upon smashing. For the sardines, I find that sea salt brings out the taste of the fish better than Kosher salt. Instead of breadcrumbs, I used feta. I preferred the sharp flavor of the cheese in rather than the blandness of the breadcrumbs.

My aunt made some crazy Spam/Manwich concoction and put it on Wonderbread buns. The grease oozed straight through the bread. There was nary a vegetable in site also. It was so gross I think I cried when she tried to make me eat it.

What does fiddlehead taste like?

Only certain varieties are "thought" to be carcinogenic although there has been no real evidence of anyone getting cancer from them.

They look like okra which I don't like so I've pretty much stayed away from them. Since people say they don't, I still may not try them because they sound like a pain in the arse to prepare and don't keep well. I like my veggies hearty and can withstand being in the fridge for at least a week.

Your Meat Is Green

FYI: Whole Foods is RIDICULOUSLY high because I can buy similar cuts of meat - organically grown - from my local markets which are way lower that what Whole Foods charge. Whole Foods has to cover he cost of their crazy overhead as well as the cost it takes to truck all that product around the country. I say - try to buy local if you can, or just shop at a smaller supermarket which doesn't have insane costs. Whole Foods = Whole Paycheck
