Any nice sports bars in NOVA?
As stated, enjoy the Sports Pub. Much more than Baileys. However, Mackey's is horrible. Food wise, and atmosphere. But, to each his own!
Any nice sports bars in NOVA?
The Bailey's in Crystal City has much better service than the Bailey's in Ballston. It's not always stellar, but overall, much better. I like the CC Sports Pub very much as well. I don't think either place has superior food, but it'll do. If you're willing to go to Old Town there is Bugsy's, which is essentially a "hockey bar". They have really good pizza, i would not say the rest of the food is "great".
Looking for Dupont Circle recommendation
I'll wholeheartedly agree with you on Bistro du Coin. Everything we've had there has been terrible, and agree about the noise and the service. I think Dino is a nice choice.
Fried Pickles
rustico in alexandria has fried pickle spears on their bar menu. they're excellent. i last had them a few months back so am unsure as to whether they're seasonal or anything.
Are there really no superlative breakfast options in Alexandria?
i wouldn't recommend southside for breakfast. royal isn't too bad, relatively basic, it is what it is. also believe that chadwicks offers their brunch on saturday which is another option.
Your 10 favorite DC Metro restaurants
Haha gee, thanks. I think Lauriol Plaza is terrible, btw. I don't know what it is about Alero in Dupont. Its odd, I know. Their location on U street is not great either. Just Dupont. Or. its just me. Or, the margaritas. Hey, its my personal opinion, and my list, right?
Are there restaurants or bars in DC with historic NYC style?
places that came to my mind are old ebbitt and even though its only a bar, the round robin in the willard?
Chipotle
i love chipotle, can't get enough of the guacamole. however - be prepared to consume some major sodium in that food. you can customize to the point of some respectable calories and fat, but the sodium is just really, really hard to avoid.

Brunch in Alexandria on Sunday
Way late but figure others may be interested...we like to do brunch at Chadwicks in Old Town down near the water. Its quite affordable, generous mimosas.
What to do w/ Penzey's Bangkok Blend
I bought this about 6 months ago, thinking it sounded great. I soon realized I had, and still have, no idea what to do with it. Does anyone have a recipe or even just some ideas for using Penzey's Bangkok Blend? Luckily I only bought the tiny jar, but still - I really want to use it on something! Help!
Crabcakes in DC metro area
wow, really? last time we had them we were practically licking our plates. but hey, to each his own, right?!
Delray area casual eats & Hollywood
i did, it seemed most of what was listed though wasn't what i was looking for. oh well.
Delray area casual eats & Hollywood
Heading down on Monday to Delray for a week. I've been going since I was a kid but have never really paid attention to the restaurant scene, typically just go where my parents decide to go. This time, I thought I'd ask the experts :-). Looking for casual places, good bar food, a great grouper sandwich, maybe great mexican. Open to whatever - but casual, inexpensive, bar are the key words.
Will also be going to Hollywood one day to hit the casino, and would like a place in that area to check out. Looked at Lola's menu - it looks fantastic but not sure if we'll be doing something in that price range - what are a couple of cheaper options?
Overall - nothing super divey, nothing that serves only shellfish, no sushi. Thanks SO much!
old town alexandria - seafood
Are you looking for a certain kind of seafood or just fish & chips?
Going against the grain here, I think the Fish Market is terrible. Abysmal. Awful. We have tried it 3 times, really really really wanting to like it, and its just BAD.
If its fish and chips you want, I've had completely respectable versions at Pat Troys, O'Connells @ the bar, and even Union Street is decent. If you're looking for more than that though...no clue. Haven't tried Hank's but hear wonderful things.
Foodie Faves in Alexandria, VA?
We went in the fall and were completely unimpressed. Service lacking, front of the house (who I think was the owner/manager) was also rude. I never quite understood all the accolades it gets.
Sunday Night Group Dinner -- with a few "catches..."
Its Jackson 20, actually, and is quite good. Neat wine list - they have 20 bottles that are $20, in addition to other wines and specialty drinks (try the Honeysuckle). Majestic is also quite good, but is a bit of a hike from the waterfront (trolley would be good for this) and reservations can be difficult, especially for a group, so that one might be out. Overwood is also good.
Decent casual bar food places in Old Town: O'Connells (bar, not sit down dinner), Union Street Public House, Pat Troys (which also usually has fun live music on weekends), Chadwicks
Avoid the Fish Market, Il Porto, Austin Grill

What food find still haunts you - that you had once and haven't found since?
I'd actually love to know your recipe for cheese blintzes. My mom and grandmother make them (we're Polish). I don't have the recipe, but recall that it uses dry curd cottage cheese, which I CANNOT find outside of the Midwest. Sigh.
What do you eat your chili?
That's my favorite way too. We sometimes add a dollop of sour cream as well. With any leftover chili, I bake 2 potatoes (slice almost in half, stuff with thinly sliced onions, then drizzle with EVOO, salt, and pepper, wrap in foil), then slice up in big chunks and do the chili - cheese - onions - sour cream thing again. Not healthy, but amazingly good.
Traveling to DC for Weekend with Fun Group! Any funky dinner recs for Friday Night? Georgetown?
loved the food at founding farmers, but atrocious service. once for drinks on a saturday mid-afternoon, another time on a friday night for dinner. horrible.
Need dining recommendations for area near Mount Vernon, VA
Hm...nothing REALLY close by that is strictly BBQ that I can think of (well that I would recommend). You might like Southside 815, which is southern / new orleans type cuisine. They have a really really good bbq pulled pork sandwich, which means I'm sure they have other items of a similar nature, I can't recall what's on the menu offhand though.

Need dining recommendations for area near Mount Vernon, VA
I live right in the area and have always wanted to try Cedar Knoll Inn but also hear the horror stories. Unfortunate, its got the perfect view.
You could try the Village Wharf, a neighborhood place we go to a couple times a month. They do a decent crabcake sandwich and my fiance seems to enjoy their burgers. Its not gourmet but its got unique character...and cold beer on tap after a long walk at Mount Vernon.

Late Dinner Thurs. Near DuPont Circle
I totally love Firefly, but do not love Bistro du Coin. 2nd the rec for Pizzeria Paradiso.
Also kind of depends on the atmosphere you want.
Crab cakes in the DC area
I've had an AMAZING crabcake at Equinox. It was an appetizer, so if you just order that it could be affordable. Also not sure if its on the menu right now? But well worth it.
Pet Friendly in Ocean City, MD?
Cool, thanks. We tried the same thing with the hotel we booked (I can't recall the name) but they basically said there were none. Maybe this one will know more!
Pet Friendly in Ocean City, MD?
We are from DC and are heading up to Ocean City for a weekend at the end of April with our dog for some fun on the beach, and hopefully in the sun. I'm having a really hard time though finding out if there are any bars / restaurants that would allow a dog on their outdoor seating areas or anything to that effect. Does anyone know of any we could try?
Thanks!
I don't care if I never set foot again in a...............
