Adam's Extract Red Velvet cake mix

I saw it in HEB in Belton which doesn't really help you other than HEB is carrying it at least in some stores.

Your Best restaurant experience as a child? [before HS age]

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

We just ate at the one near Cowboy's stadium. The sorghum there was defitneily much lighter tasting than molasses with none of the bitter tasteof mollasses. It was quite good.

Your best items at Sam's Club

Caroline1 I was just wondering about you the other day! Good to see you again or maybe I was just missing your posts.

At our Sam's we mostly buy milk, school lunch snacks and paper goods.

Strangest (indulged) craving so far......

I cannot believe I am admitting this but once in a moment of insanity I actually dipped chocolate cake in brown gravy and ate it...something about sweet and salty. I don't think I was pregnant at the time but maybe I should choose to believe I was.

Childhood foods you would *totally* eat now...

Baby food plums were delicious!! I ate them for breakfast in highschool, lol. When I got married and had kids I was very sad that I could not find them anymore.

K- Cups

My last order included Green Mountain Coffee Island Coconut , Van Houtte Butterscotch, Green Mountain Coffee Wild Mountain Blueberry, Coffee People Wake Up Call, Van Houtte Honduras exrta bold and Green Mountain Coffee Southern Pecan. We are quite pleased with them all. Also we like the Celestial Seasonings brew over ice teas.

Do you pack your own food when you go...

No but we are going to start! Last week lunch at the zoo for 4 of us was $51 and it was just cheeseburgers. I think typical picnic fair of sandwiches, fruit and chips is where we will start but I hope to branch out so this thread will be great!

Calf Fries

Heitmiller's I think. it's a bit north of Waco in Elm Mott I think.

How to make a large Hostess frosted donettes?

The frosting on a donette is lightly waxy it forms a kind of hardish shell that you can pick up initially without leaving ifinger indentions though it does melt after a moment. I would it would be some sort of chocolate mixture containing a bit of wax over a doughnut that is denser than ywellow cake but not quite pound cake texture. Though I have no idea how to make one. Sounds like a fun challenge.

regular fries...curly fries always seem rally greasy to me.

Searching for pre-made BBQ rubs...

we really love an all purpose rub called Grub Rub

Best Chocolate Milk

Promised Land is also in TX and is the best milk, but no idea about So. FL

Nostalgic Recipes

Caroline we have found the cake yeast at holiday time at Central Market and Whole Foods. So it might be something worth looking for. HEB here in Central TX used to have it but they were not selling it so quit ordering.

Of course, some memories are best left unscathed as well. It seems nothing I make ever tastes as good as my grandmothers.

As for nostalgia I surely do miss my grandma;s chicken salad. It was cubed chicken with some sort of boiled dressing on it.

Cookbooks you didn't know existed

has the horribly named Cooking with Pooh been mentioned? I keep looking for a copy to add to my collection. Seriously did no one think twice about the name?

Stubbs Gospel brunch

After a quick check I didn't see a review so I thought I'd give a brief one. While normally it is not our go to place for BBQ our cousin was playing today so we gave it a shot.

On the menu were pancakes, chorizo migas, vegetarian migas, spinach enchiladas, biscuits, cheese grits, refried beans, tortillas, gravy, nopalitos, bacon, fruit salad, eggs, bbq chicken, sausage and lean brisket. Muffins and pecan pie for desert.

Adults were $18 and some change.

The spinach enchiladas, chorizo migas and bbq chicken were pretty good. The brisket was quite lean which my DH did not care for. Surpsingly the syrup for the pancakes appeared to be real maple syrup.

It was a nice change of pace for Sunday and and good for an all you can eat brunch.
