Low Carb Ideas???
Although tomatoes are not the lowest-carb vegetable out there, a grilled steak with a tarragon-tomato salad (recipe found on epicurious) was often on the company menu when I tried a "modified" South Beach diet. For mexican-related cooking, I found that I barely missed tortillas if I used a steamed swiss chard leaf. I also used dry TVP flakes in place of breadcrumbs in many recipes, and my husband didn't notice a bit!!! This isn't really a recipe, but I think the only way I held on through the early phases was a giant spoonful of peanut butter spread onto a fudgsicle... yum!

What are your favorite September foods? We are holding a surprise 30th birthday party for my husband and his twin brother, and would appreciate any menu suggestions that woud fit the season. Folks are traveling to New England, and we'd like to give them a taste of fall...

Sorry, I just saw your question... if you haven't gone on your trip yet..
The tent at Grittys is visible from some seats on the deck. There is a large fenced-in area where children (adults too!) can run around and play, but dogs are kept in a separate area.
The stores allowed us to bring our dogs in the store and the dressing rooms while we shopped. :)

Recommendation for a Cut of Beef for a Carving Station

The pizza was awesome!!! We fired the oven using kindling and other small pieces of wood for about 2 hours, and then popped the pizza in... 2 or 3 minutes later, we had perfectly perfect pizza! I highly recommend it!!!
To answer the rain question, although the oven is quite hard, we are a bit wary of heavy downpours "melting" the oven. If we know that it is going to rain all day, or if a big thunderstorm is on its way, we have put up a portable tent.

Just wanted to follow up on our trip - had a great time and ate well! FYI - Gritty's has an outside tent where you can leash your dog while you eat. Also, the North Face / Patagonia / Horny Toad stretch of stores allow dogs too!
Paging Mud Oven Builders...
Well, we built it!!! It took two days, and lots of fun. We followed the schematics pretty closely from Denzer's book (btw, purchased new on eBay for $5) - used sand to form a dome shape, covered it in 3" of a mud (sand/clay) mixture, a 6" mud/straw mixture, and topped with a 2" clay/manure mixture. We haven't scooped the sand out yet, but hopefully this weekend we will have a fully functioning oven!!! I am ready for some PIZZA!!!
The shape of the oven looked very similar to the photo at the link above. We built our foundation out of old cement blocks, rock, and some old fire brick.
Has Anyone Ordered from Omaha Steaks?
I received a box for Christmas, and I will say that the chocolate cake and twice baked potatoes were quite tasty for frozen food!

I am requesting new pots and pans as part of a wedding registry - I already have a few nice pieces, so I don't plan to request a full set. Does anyone recommend one type over another? I plan on getting All Clad, and unfortunately, getting all in the copper clad will be too expensive. (However, I was thinking of getting one or two pieces in the copper clad - are there any pieces folks just can't live without?) Thanks for your advice!!!

Typical Meal Costs
I am planning a honeymoon to Ireland for late summer, and recently was told that a meal for two consisting of fish and chips and a pint can cost upwards of $50 in a pub in Ireland... do you know if this is typical? We have a rather limited budget, and don't want to arrive on a vacation to find out that meals that we want to splurge on will really break the bank.
