Hi there,

Visiting Vegas just for the day in a few weeks. Plan on meeting a few friends for a Friday Brunch at the Wicked Spoon. At $22 I hear great things about this Buffet. What are your thoughts? Thanks and Happy Eating..

Fish and Chips

Hi there,

Where do you go for Fish and Chips in Los Angeles? Havent had some for awhile and interested in knowing your favorites..

Thanks in advance..

Breakfast/brunch spot around Hotel Angeleno

Take a nice ride on Sunset to the Ocean and make a left. Patricks Roadhouse is nice and its a cool ride. Your just North of Santa Monica if you would like to do some touring. This is my leisure option.. However, its not in you designated area request. Gjelina is nice too and if your looking for a cooler vibe.

Best Sandwiches

Very well noted. I am a fan of the seeded Sarcone's bread..

extremely short review of La Frite (sherman oaks)

Was there last night catching up with friends. While the room was nice and we had the only round table to hold 5. That seemed to be the best part of the meal. Our waitress seemed nice, but was rushed. Food was actually not that great. The Pate was actually very good, cheese board was small, while the nuts were good, the cheese portions were very very small. Had the Steak Frite. Gosh if they cant get this right what can they do.. Fries seemed from a Bag. My Ore Ida ones are better at home.. The flavor of the steak was not that great. Perhaps if the owner spent as much time in their restaurant, rather than hyping on Yelp we would all have a better experience. I am a fan of French Bistro food and this place failed.. Best part was getting together with friends. Caveat, I guess there is not that much in the Valley to compare with. Gordon, you need a revisit!!

Heading back to Philadelphia, tweaking the agenda.

Im in town Monday Night and Tuesday till Mid Day.. Not to hijack the thread,, Anyone want a quickie food crawl??

What are your favorite dives and cheap eats WORTH THE DRIVE?

I have heard good things about Elenas in Glendale.. What do you like there?? I agree with the spots I know of on your list echoparkdirt :)

Best Pizza in Buenos Aires?

Never knew. Will check it out in May.. Anyone else been recently...

KOREAN BBQ - soot bull jeep or chosun galbee

Depends on the Group that your with. If they want very good meat and a more upscale ( for lack of better words ) enviornment, I would choose Parks BBQ . If its a more fun Group looking for a very good time ( think loud music , flat screens on the wall with sports, music viedos etc ) along with VERY GOOD food as well, I would pick The Road to Seoul. ( I have been 5 times in the last year and it keeps on getting better there ) Great upscale AYCE with excellent quality and the side dishes are very good as well. ( egg soufle, pancake are included in the price which is $16.99 or $19.99 per person depending on the list you chose from ) In addition to meat in the AYCE they have Squid ( baby and whole ) and Head on Shrimp. Really a good place. Both Parks and The Road to Seoul are my both go to spots.. Banchan is equal at both as well..

800° Degrees Pizza is now officially open for business - YAY!

Now I understand why the crust was prepared the way it was on my first visit.. Guess I prefer crispy over Traditional DOP. I will try it again and see.. I really like the place allot and if asking for crispy is an option, thats great.. I am well glad to see that they are on board to keep us non traditionalists happy... I am sure we will see more locations soon..

Road to Seoul, Korean BBQ review w/ pics

I have been to Road to Seoul about 4 times over the past year. Valet up front and a lot in the back ( just go to the next street east on Western and make a right.. ) Meats are consistent and I normally go early say before 5:30 or 5:45 and always have a wonderfull time. The head on shrimp is good too..

Where's the good posole? And when?

Did anyone take a view of the link of the Pozole Restaurant in Chicago that I had posted above? Seems to me as its the Best I have seen to date ( I know I have not tried it.. ). Fried Pork Skins as an side as well ( I like that touch ). I really like the look of the rich and oily red version. This is what I am seeking. Thanks to all whom are home cooks, I actually would like to eat Pozole as soon as the weather turns cold once again ( Missed Kings Day.. ) Any thoughts where I could find a Red version as shown in the video clip in Los Angeles? Many versions in Los Angeles, unless they are homemade are way lacking in hearty factor of the soup base. The restaurants make most rather thin ( I guess the homemade versions take a longer time to make thus the oil and thickness, I too like the chew in the Hominy, not mushy) Please help. SOS!!

800° Degrees Pizza is now officially open for business - YAY!

Went with my son last night. 1 Pizza Margherita, 1 Pizza Bianca and a Chopped Salad to share. He had a Soda and played with the machice for a bit ( Coke with Rasberry was his final selection ) I thought that the whole concept and food was great and the cost was very very low. $6 and $5 for the Pizzas and $5 for the salad and $2 for the Coke. The line moved fast ( we were there about 5:30 ) when we left it was out the door a bit. Only comment would be is to cook the Pizza a touch more ( I like it rather crispy and will ask for it that way next time ) All and All I will surely be back. Pizza toppings were top notch quality and very very fresh. This place will do well. As an aside, we took a walk to Diddy Riese for Desert ( my suggestion )

High end liquor store, South Bay?

Wine or Spirits. If Spirits: Total Wine in Redondo actually has a good selection. If Wine: Manhattan Fine Wines in Manhattan Beach ( see Joe the owner ) also in Hermosa Beach new shop Uncorked has a wonderful selection ( see Jeff ) These will help you out allot..

Los Angeles Hound in Boston for 18 hours, what to do??

Here is my Trip Report:

Landed at Logan at 11:30 pm or so.. I took the Silver Line to South Station, transferred to the Red Line, then transferred to the Green Line. Exited at Copley. After asking some friendly people for directions I took the advise of our fellow Hound (total 13) and ended up at the Delux (cool place witha very cool bartender, Jennifer, whom poured a mean Crown Royal Manhattan Up ) we chatted awhile about my evening and plans, then she gave me directions to the Franklin. Wanted to stay, but too little time. The evening is starting well! Walked over to the Franklin, I must say coming from Los Angeles I could really appreciate the architecture that this area has to offer. Once at the Franklin, I was already feeling like a local! Had a few draft beers (a Rhode Island brew which comes from tall Red pull, I believe that the name starts with an N ) gosh drinks are cheap in Boston. $3 for a Draft ( think $8 or more in LA for a spot like the Franklin ) I chatted with lots of the local color. I'm straight, however, the crowd here is very diversified. Spoke to a few people and asked for walking directions to Chinatown.. drank two beers ( I think its now about 2 am ) Headed over in a straight line across the freeway, pretty simple walk, and was in the land of Clams and Black Bean sauce. The nice brisk walk was about 20 minutes or so.. After nodding out in the Clams which were very good.. ( well the waiter patted me on the back ) I was off to the W Hotel.. ( Thought I would blow off an hour or two there on the Lobby Couches. (The hip security guard after our brief and cordial conversation suggested that I was no longer welcome ) So its South Station for me. Nice walk and hung there for an hour before I got a Bagel, then off to walk around a bit ( the morning air was fresh and nice ) Made it to the Tufts Orange line station for a ride to Jamica Plain for my 10 am Samuel Adams tour and tasting. Tour was nice and the beers a welcome mid morning treat. After the tour I was meeting 4 friends from an airline blog that I subscribe to at Pizzeria Regina on Thatcher. Caught a farmers market on the way to Reginas ( right outside the Haymarket station ) I had to have a mixed dozen of Oysters and Cherry stones for $10 bucks.. Wow! They were so fresh and tasted just like they were taken from the sea.. Now.. as I waking over to Reginas I felt the need for a Cannoli at Mikes!! Sweet.. ate it and dusted suger on my black sweater showed the enjoyment. Met my new friends ( actually the first time I met them.. at Reginas) 3 more beers, couple of great pies for the group. Then off to Mikes with some of guys from lunch in tow for some biscotti. Then its time to say goodbye.. Orange line to Blue Line ( nodded out again and missed the Airport stop by two stations ) no worries over the bridge at the stop that I had woken up at..and before you know it I'm in the United Lounge at Logan! Double Rum and Egg Nog. Overall great time, and YES you can do an all nighter in Boston. Everyone I had encountered was really nice ( even the security guy at the W ) weather was warm during the day on Friday and not that cold during the night on Thursday, I actually enjoyed the brisk night..Thank you Boston for an very enjoyable time. And most of all to: total 13, whom gave the lead on Delux and Franklin.. Iff any of you are ever in Los Angeles and need some recommendations I am happy to return the favor..
