New Favorite Thai Restaurant
N joy Thai Restaurant at 212 Westheimer where Fabio's used to be.. small, 10-12 table restaurant, food is outstanding and matched by the friendly and attentive service.. Killer, Drunken Noodles, Pad Ka Prao and Pad Prik Khing.. One of those places u visit and while eating, ur already planning ur next trip back.. This small mom and pop is destined to succeed in spite of limited parking at store front. Lunch menu includes soup and generous entree serving for $6-795. Goodbye Nidda,,, hellooo Njoy!
Trader Joe's-I don't think Central Mrkt has anything to worry about
Had a chance to first visit a Trader Joe's last w/e in Orange County (Aliso Viejo). They had a terrific Ca wine selection (there at least) not sure how it'll translate here. The rest of the food/mrkt items were moderately priced goods. I'd rather have my Bookstop back!
Pizaro Napoletana on Memorial
my natural go-to is Dolce Vita for Italian pizza's and Romano's for NY style. Love sitting at the bar to eat and drink at Dolce Vita and the general feel of the place.
Pizaro Napoletana on Memorial
I enjoyed this restaurant Friday night and have been wanting to visit for several wks. This restaurant serves Italian style pizza in an authentic Italian pizza oven. Pizaro is one of only a few Naples certified speciality pizza houses in Texas (Dough in San Antonio is another).. What this restaurant lacks is atmosphere and character. Located in a shopping strip, crowded with burb locals, this no-frills byob restaurant serves up pizza and salads on paper plates and plastic utensils. The pizza is very good, the ingredients terrific quality and the family running this establishment are passionate about pizza making.. Bill left the corporate world to start a new career, something special, something different. Pizza's run $12-16 and serves one. Should I find myself in this neighborhood again, I'll surely stop.
Cafe Benedicte on Memorial
Wow, what a terrific dinner here Saturday night.. A very generous helping of North African couscous w/lamb and chicken grilled meats, green pepper and tomato. GF had a large portion of a nicely seasoned salmon and veggies.. Wonderful dining room, terrific value, nice wine list ($30 and up) prompt and friendly service. Spk with the very humble and kind owner who made his rounds visiting customers.. Subtle sound of live piano played for diners till 10pm. Middle Eastern/Spanish/Med fusion done right. Everthing from hummus to steaks and seafoods, paella, etc. Will be back!
best Chinese restaurant in Houston?
back last night, for the Dan Dan Noodles, Malo roasted Tilapia (plucked live from the fish tank) and eggplant w/garlic sauce! Could have made a meal on a bowl of rice/w eggplant it was sooo tasty! Everything was terrific. Will fight the urge to go back tonight!
best Chinese restaurant in Houston?
Dinner at Mala last night! red oil dumplings were spice delicious.. The cumin beef had a unique and tasty flavor.. Service was prompt and friendly, prices good, the restaurant is clean. Already planning my next visit!!
best Chinese restaurant in Houston?
Wow, Mala sounds like my kind of place.. If the Dan Dan noodles and Chendu style dumplings are as good as the dishes served up at Sichuan Restaurant in San Antonio,, I'll be a regular! thx for the tip thursby!
Awesome lunch at Local Foods
On Dunstan in Rice Village next to Benjy's. This yet another local farms to mrkt restauarnt featuring delicious sandwiches and sides menu.. I had a Banh Mi sandwich stuffed with lean tasty pork, cucumber, jalapeno on an incredible french baguette. Choice of 2 sides or soup,, I chose the creamy Lemongrass chicken, ginger and rice soup. All for 10 bucks. GF had the house smoked salmon, w/local greens, onion jam on a poppy bagel for $11. The breads here are super delicious,, better than i would find for the same at central mrkt or whole foods. The breads are available for sale along with fresh tomatoes and other goods. The sandwiches we enjoyed, topped off with a carot cake cupcake which was also remarkable.
Other sandwiches include, a capered tuna, a crunchy chx, a house made pastrami, a gulf shrimp and blue crab, a truffled egg salad on a pretzel bun, a duck confit and a falafel sandwich,, all dressed with a variety of cheeses and goodness... $ range, 9-13 dollars.
This will become my new favorite meal stop. Pay at the cash register, meals are delivered to your table.
Need Dinner Recs for Galleria Area
Food and service at Kenny and ziggy"s is superb! The pastrami and corned beef on rye, the best in Houston. U might also try central mrkt grocery store for terrific made to order sandwiches and salads, near the galleria. As foe dinner under $30, what kind of food r u looking, ethnic, seafood, steaks?
My favorite Vietnamese Restaurant
Have been to Huynh 4-6 x.. Very pleasant and helpful family operated restaurant. I thought the food was good. If u find yourself in Corpus on business or pleasure, the Vietnam Restaurant is a destination you must experience.
Leap Day in Houston
I just bought a jar of harissa from central mrkt.. I seem to be smearing it on everything.. will try marinating on a slab of fish this w/e.
Leap Day in Houston
Giacomo's is underrated. The shrimp entree in a spicy red sauce is one of my favorites.. If you happen to live within the Giacomo zip code, they are doing a 30% off promotion. ck it out!
Leap Day in Houston
Burger and brew at Pondicheri for 10 smackers. will sit at the bar and enjoy the view!
My favorite Vietnamese Restaurant
yep, closer to home, van loc is my go to. actually, lately, i've been enjoying mai's as well..
My favorite Vietnamese Restaurant
happens to be in Corpus Christi Texas,, If you visit CC, stop by Vietnam Restaurant on N Water St. This was only my 2nd visit, but like my first experience, it rates an 11 on a 10 scale. see the website for their menu at this beautiful, french/vietnamese dining spot.. Nothing on Milam or Chinatown comes close IMHO. Chx and rice soup starter with chx w/lemongrass entree was awesome! Attached Vietnam boutique hotel is next on my hit list.
Gelato Blu has closed its Memorial location
Stopped by a few days ago and peered thru the darkened glass storefront. I'm hoping the downtown retail location is still running (around the corner from Bombay Pizza). Chuck brought his creative skills from the Siena Italy area and has served up the best gelato in Houston, IMHO.
Chris Shepherd's Underbelly on Westheimer opens today
at 4pm with a wine service and small bites. Soft opening March 1st.
The 2012 James Beard Foundation Awards-Restaurant and Chef Award Semifinalists
selects Pondicheri in the "Best New Restaurant" catagory. Only restaurant in Texas to make that list. Anvil makes the list for "Outstanding Bar Program".

Orange Co foodie tips
Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Aliso Viejo areas, ethnic, seafood, California casual, all price ranges. Will be there for an upcoming long w/e. Thx!!!
Phoencia Market-downtown
Just blown away by this absolutely terrific grocery store. What a huge selection of goods from the mediterranean and beyond. The shwarma's are a handful and custom made to ur liking. The pre made variety of spreads and toppings, fresh salad bar, breads, pita. And the star of the show on my visit yesterday was the live jazz band in the bar section. If u haven't been go, its an enjoyably full sensory experience not soon forgotten..
Roost Restaurant on Fairview
formerly Latina Cafe, we made it there last night. Latest farm to table restaurant in H-town was good not great tho they continue to draw fans and long lines. I had a qtr chx with sweet potato bread pudding which i found ho-hum. Gf tried the gulf redfish and kimchi which was a yawner as well.. The real star of the night was the melt in your mouth pretzel bread app with fois gras and seperate blue cheese butter. Bottle of French was under $30. Donut hole dessert satisfied the sweet craving. $80+ bucks, limited menu, the owner Kevin,, nice guy, service was attentive. Movin on!
layover: need good food for our overnight
agree w/the chez nous rec! fwiw, cat cora has recently opened a rest in terminal E.
Need help to find best Houston has to offer!
Head to Westheimer, near downtown, for a string of restaurants that will satisfy-Hugo's (Mexican), Mark's (Amer Contin housed in a converted church), Indika (unforgettable Indian). Houston's own Pappas Steakhouse (near Galleria)or Vic and Anthony (near downtown ball park) for meat/seafood. If you get homesick for a pastrami on rye or matza ball soup, head over to Kenny & Ziggy's on Post Oak. For lunch downtown, try Irma's Southwest Grill on Texas St (only open for lunch-no menu-specials only** not to be confused with Irma's Rest on Chenevert St)
Enjoy!
Laurenzo's for brunch last Sunday
jeans casual is what I saw.. Not positive shorts would be appropriate tho august in Houston,, whew,, might be fine.. Call the restaurant if you need to confirm.
Laurenzo's for brunch last Sunday
Casual all the way.. Could easily be confused on appearance with a high end sports bar.. Prices on premium steaks are steep.. The brunch prices, considering portion size and food quality is exceptional. I really like this restaurant..
