Anyone who hasn't checked out http://www.winelibrarytv.com yet is missing out. Great video blog about wine that is down to earth, and a blast to watch. Totally about learning to develop your own palate and tasting NEW stuff. Gary Vaynerchuk has also just released his new book, it will be available on May 13th. Something cool I found out is that if you order 2 (or more) copies and email a copy of your receipt to book@winelibrary.com you will get a FREE shipping code for http://www.winelibrary.com plus other things that they say are still in the pipeline. Click the following link to order the book from Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/5hwvbx Check it out! Tim Wiseman |

OK, we decided to check out Port Clinton over our anniversary weekend. This was our first trip to the Lake Erie island area, and wanted to see what it was all about. We ended up visiting a couple of the islands (Kelley's Island, Put-In-Bay), nothing much to report since we were there before the season really started and alot of places were not yet open, or still getting things ready for summer. Now for the good stuff, we stayed at the Bay Haven Inn, which I highly recommend. A very nice waterfront B&B with exceptional, friendly hosts. The breakfasts were great. First morning, we had Swiss cheese, Mushroom & Spinach omelettes, apple tart, lemon poppyseed bread & fresh fruit, very nice. Second morning we had baked french toast, potato pancakes, ham & cheese in a puff pastry, also with fresh fruit. Everything was fresh and tasted great!! I would highly recommend staying at the Bay Haven Inn ( www.bayhaveninn.com ) if you are planning a trip to the Port Clinton area. Below are a few of the places we tried out, and our approximate bill, just to give you an idea ... First night we ate at Nagoya, a Japanese steakhouse, hibachi style restaurant. We went for the sushi. Very nice decor, excellent prices, and the sushi was EXCELLENT. Very fresh, excellent presentation, and a wide variety of choices, and specials. A must go is you are a fan of sushi. ($50 for two. )Second night we dined at Mon Ami. Please do not underestimate this place as your run on the mill Italian restaurant. It was a 5 star experience! We had the baked brie appetizer, which was delectable, fresh Mon Ami house salads (with blue cheese and dried cherries), Lobster Bisque, my wife ordered the pretzel crusted halibut, and I the bacon wrapped scallops. The presentation was beautiful, and the food was exceptional, and great service. We ordered a bottle of their award winning 2004 Cabernet. I have to say that after visiting some of the Ohio wineries, I was a bit skeptical of how 'award winning' it would be. It was far beyond what I thought it could be (so good I bought another bottle to take home). This is another must-try if you are in the area. ($100 for two) I must also mention 'La Habana', a cuban restaurant in Marblehead. We tried the rice and beans, Cuban sandwich, and Cuban mojo, all VERY good. ($20 for two) One final note, if you are a fan of popcorn (I don't know many who aren't). PLEASE stop by the Great Lakes Popcorn Co. ( greatlakespopcorn.com) in downtown Port Clinton. Flavors for almost any palate, sweet and savory. They offer samples of all their items, at request. Hopefully, this will help some who are thinking of traveling to the area looking for something off the beaten path. |
