Oysters in the Palo Alto Area
I've had them at Sundance Steakhouse - pretty good but rather expensive. Any suggestions for good (cheap) oysters in Palo Alto'ish area? :)
Best Chinese Delivery to Bloor & Spadina Area?
I know this post is over two years old, but blech - New Ho King is pretty garbage! I'm curious about any other opinions on chinese delivery in this vicinity!
John Lee's Omi - The paper is off the windows
I revise my previous post of Oct 19, 2008. Omi is, once again, the bomb. Though I still miss the sushi bar.
John Lee's Omi - The paper is off the windows
Unfortunately, I have to second most of what's being said on here about dear Omi. I miss the sushi bar, the intimacy and, more importantly, the FISH. We got omakase but did not get any white tuna / unagi nigiri or scallops. What gives?!
BUT it must be remembered that it's only the second week and I can only assume (/hope) he's working the kinks out with his fish suppliers (and brewing the smoked soy that adds so much).
I'll give the omakase one more shot in a month or two. After that ... who knows. Regardless, I'm sad that the old Omi - at least the social aspect - will never be again.
Breakfast in the Annex?
Noon at Bathurst/Dupont was wicked - but also gone now. Grapefruit Moon has a great breakfast quesadilla
Cheap in Yorkville ... oxymoron or not?
Shogun, on Cumberland across from the theaters, is reasonably priced and pretty damn good. Sushi Inn steals the spotlight, albeit undeservedly, leaving Shogun as a tasty, relatively inexpensive not-so-busy option (dinner for two around $50).
shogun
since the demise of Omi, shogun has been my go-to place for good quality, affordable sushi. the staff there are very friendly and you'll always get a hot towel before your meal and some oranges and prime cantaloupe (or pineapple) afterwards.
i recommend the sushi pizza, it's the best in the city (that i've had).
this all being said, i'm still waiting for John Lee to come out of hiding and reinvent Omi somewhere else. I never minded paying the $100+/person for his omakase.
Delivery to Forest Hill
i'd like to second this request. China House is not an option. House of Chan - don't even joke about suggesting it.
if only Cynthia's or Lee Garden delivered/opened up shop in the Forest Hill vicinity!!
Bay & Bloor Chinese Recommendations
just had China Garden ... decent soup, pretty good spicy deep fried tofu .. general tsao's chicken was at first very tomato pasty but got a bit better as time went on. the shanghai noodles were also decent, nothing extraordinary. the portions are quite large though.
i ordered for home delivery soup, general tsao's chicken, shanghai noodles, tofu .. came out to $23 incl. tax
Best homefries in Toronto
"Noon" @ Bathurst/Dupont (west side of Bathurst, just south of Dupont). Spicy, pan fried homefries. So good.
Best Chinese delivery - Annex?
I second this request. How can this area have such a lack of Chinese food? Saigon Gourmet is decent though (Dupont/Christie)
Best Sushi in Toronto
I second this recommendation. Good food at reasonable prices, especially considering the area. Until I find a place that comes even CLOSE to what Omi was (and thus worth the price), I'm sticking with cheaper and decent (versus expensive and good but not great - e.g., Japango)
Omi is gone (for now) - where next?
im at work at 2am and i need OMI back in my life... Japango was crap insofar as their omakase was sparse and contained ZERO rolls [is that usual?] I did notice one of his understudys, who will go unnamed, went there.
I've heard Blowfish is a waste of money. There was one other place downtown but I forget the name .. around Bathurst/King as well? Anyone else vouch for Ichiriki (aside from skylineR33)?
Omi is gone (for now) - where next?
Hey all -
While John finds a new home for his Omi establishment (decided not to renew his lease in search of a more permanent abode), I am left with a huge sushi void. I was wondering if anyone who's been a big fan of Omi has found anything comparable both in quality of fish? People have said Ki is the place to be - but others, who have enjoyed Omi as much as I have, were very dismissive.
Any (downtown) suggestions would be very much appreciated! I'm certainly going to miss Omi while it's gone (though his catering business is still up and running).
Sushi Downtown - recommendations?
Omi, Omi - OMI!
On west side of Church, a block and a half south of Wellesley
Juice Bars (GTA)?
Hey guys .. what an overwhelming response to my last post (First Date Veggie Restos). I was thrilled and while the date was 'meh', the food made up for it! lol
Okay .. next mission .. going on a date - the girl lives quite far (Hwy 7/Bathurst) from me (St. Clair/Spadina). She says she won't drink tonight - which is fine by me - but I figure it might be a good idea to go to a place that maybe doesn't focus on food (which we won't eat - 9pm) or booze.
So! Do any of you knowledgeable souls out there know of any kinda chic juice bars? Would prefer something fancier than something you can find in an underground mall - but maybe not as pretentious as an oxygen bar :P
I've heard of "Juice for Life"/Fresh. But they seem to only be open until 9pm or 10:30pm.
Anyway, I think you guys get the gist of what I'm looking for. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
Cheers.
First Date Veggie Restos (GTA)
ive decided on fressen .. seems like a bit of a nicer/hipper place than 668 - but that'll be the second date i think no doubt .. i also really liked the various ethnic suggestions (jewish [which we are]. moroccan and ethiopian). while i'm not a veggie, i really dont need to eat meat - i just like tasty food!
again, thanks everyone .. this has to be one of the best communities on the web
First Date Veggie Restos (GTA)
wow thanks for all of your posts! i think fressen may get my pick .. but has anyone heard of Cafe 668 (number one pick from http://www.nowtoronto.com/issues/2006-10-05/cover_story.php)? does it live up to the hype?
First Date Veggie Restos (GTA)
Hey guys..
My first post to this board .. what an awesome resource!
Anyway, I'm going on a first date with a girl who's a vegetarian (which I am not). So - I was wondering if anyone knows of a nice restaurant (e.g. first date nice - i.e. not a dive) with great veggie offerings. Any suggestions serving unconventional or fun fare would be welcome!
Great thanks!
