Street Tacos Catering For A Party of About 300

We have used Taquizas El Unico 619-884-4642 They are very professional and the tacos are delicious. Tell them how many people and they provide all you can eat tacos, guac, onion, cilantro, radishes, and sala, all cooked up right before your eyes. We provided our own chips, ceviche, & additional salsa which we purchased from Northgate Gonzalas supermarket.

Taco Carts?

Thank you!

Taco Carts?

Thank you both!

Taco Carts?

I haven't been on here in awhile but I know you guys can point us in the right direction.

We are considering hiring a taco cart to come to our house for our daughter's first birthday in April. For the most part our guests like good food but aren't super adventurous. We would probably want chicken, beef, and pork. Excellent salsa is a must, natural/organic meat would be a bonus...I'm not even sure anyone does that?

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Labor inducing meal? (SD)

Thanks, I will try the U/T and Lefty's. I have been eating tons of spicy food. I read that green papaya can cause contractions so I have been eating the thai papaya salad at Sab-e-lee(sp?) at #8 spicy. It's so good but no luck so far. I have also tried mexican, chinese and pineapple. Thanks for the help and well wishes.

Labor inducing meal? (SD)

A coworker of my husband told him there is a meal in San Diego that is known for inducing labor. He could not remember what or where it is. Anyone know if this is true? I am aware of other labor inducing meals throughout the country but does one exist in SD? I would be eternally grateful if anyone can help, I have tried everything, I'm way overdue, and very much ready to pop!

There is good Thai food in San Diego

I FINALLY made it over to Sab E Lee and it was everything I expected and hoped! My sister from Idaho is visiting and was a little scared by the menu at first glance. We ordered Rice Noodle with Crab Meat, Pepper Garlic with beef, Tom Yum Soup and egg rolls for her kids. Everything was delicious and we have been craving it ever since. We ordered everything with an 8 spicy and it was perfect. Our favorite was the rice noodles with crab, the soup was your standard but tasty tom yum, the pepper garlic beef was spicy with white pepper and garlic, we loved it. We want to go back today and try the shrimp larb, pa-nang curry, papaya salad, beef salad, one of the pork dishes and those crab noodles again! Yum!

Carnitas Lead: Las Michoacanas SD

This place is about 3 minutes from my house. I'll see if I can get over there this weekend and report back.

Has anyone tried Quilmes?

My step-dad is from Argentina and LOVES Quilmes! I have had it and agree that it is comparable to our bland American lagers. I once left a 6 pack of Stone pale ale in his fridge and he later told me that it was the most disgusting thing he had ever tasted and that it made him want to yak.

Questions about Hard Cider

I hope your sink enjoyed your cider! We recently found a whole case of cider we made 3 years ago. We drank it, it was even more delicious than we remembered, and we survived. If there seemed to be something wrong with a bottle then we would have dumped that bottle for sure.

Yikes, I just noticed how old this thread is.

Gravlax/Smoked Salmon (SD)

Thanks for all the recommendations, I may have to have a gravlax tasting!

Gravlax/Smoked Salmon (SD)

Where can I buy the best gravlax in San Diego? I am looking to buy enough to serve 12 people as an appetizer.

Thanks!

Looking for Ideas for Simple Dishes to Serve with Saison/ Farmhouse Ale Tasting

Wow, your party sounds fantastic! Saisons/Farmhouse Ales happen to be my very favorite style. Traveling through Belgium earlier this year we found breweries consistently served the same types of foods with our tastings.

1.cheese, soft and semi-soft beer cheese dominated. Brasserie Dupont served us a soft young beer cheese, and a older, firmer cheese flecked with malt and hops. Both unique and delicious. You could search out beer cheeses or serve your favorite local cheeses. I would think a cheddar or jack would be nice. Cheese was always served with dijon style mustard and/or celery salt.

2. Many farmhouse breweries make their own bread as well. I would bake my own and make it yeasty.

3. Salami, we were served lots of local salami.

4. open faced grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. We were usually given the option of smoked or non-smoked ham and cheese, or just cheese sandwich. The ham and cheese was usually grilled/toasted. The plain cheese was usually not grilled.

I would also consider mussels and frites. I would steam the mussels in some of the beer.

I bet a simple grilled cheese sandwich with a little mustard for dipping would be great as well.

Hors d'œuvres with Sparkling Wine

I love the smoked salmon platter idea!

I read about the fries with gourmet ketchup and love that idea but won't work in this instance. I also liked the idea of duck fat latkes but don't want to risk the quality of the latkes because we will be traveling.

Thanks for the ideas!

Hors d'œuvres with Sparkling Wine

Yes, you are correct. This is a Zin tasting but I was told my dish is to pair with a sparkling wine. Unfortunately I was not given any additional info on the wine.

I am open to either one big dish or 12 individual servings. We love mushrooms, especially wild mushrooms so I like that idea.

Prior to posting my question I did some searching and one recipe that has stuck with me is bacon/prosciutto wrapped dates stuffed with cheese(maybe Parmesan Reggiano). Any thoughts on that?

Hors d'œuvres with Sparkling Wine

We have been invited to a zinfandel tasting by my husband's grandparents. We have been asked to bring one appetizer (hot or cold) for 12 people that must go with sparkling wine.

I want to make something that will really impress the grandparents, which is why I have come to you all for suggestions! They said it can be hot or cold but I will only have access to an oven to warm something up and we live over an hour away so we will not be able to bring it warm. I am open to all suggestions, this is a pretty sophisticated group of people and we will be the youngest there so we want to impress.

Thanks!

Paella - how do I get the crusty bottom?

Like everyone has said, leave it alone, on the stove, it will get crusty. Listen to it carefully as well, when it's getting crusty it will make a specific noise. An old woman in Spain told me this and once you hear it and achieve a nice crusty bottom you will be able to get it every time. Yum! Enjoy your paella.

Cupcake flavors

Martha Stewart has a "to die for" strawberry cupcake recipe. Report back and let us know what you end up making for the party, sounds like fun!

Desserts off I-5, SD & O County

Hi Hounds!

I need to pick up a dessert, preferably a fruit tart or pie, on Sunday somewhere between Del Mar and Dana Point, any recommendations? My original plan was to finally try Elizabethan Desserts in Encinitas but they are closed on Sundays :( I know there is a Gelsons in Dana Point but I was hoping to find something less grocery store-ish. Thanks everyone!

Guacamole with Mayo/Sourcream

I had never, ever heard of sour cream or mayo in guac, maybe because I live in SoCal and we have lots of avocados here? I had always heard that my SIL makes a mean guac, that it was THE BEST! I was stunned when I saw it for the first time and it was loaded with mayo, no tomatoes, no chiles, no cilantro, no onions, nothing that even barely resembled guacamole. If you want to call it avocado dip, that's one thing, but don't insult the avocado by calling it guacamole.

Parkhouse Eatery - Can't wait to try more!

Exactly that...bloody mary's and mimosas. My MIL bases many of her favorite breakfast places on the quality of the cocktails. As far as Parkhouse Eatery goes they do have a nice array of mimosas and a tasty bloody mary so it gets the thumbs up from her. Now, my SIL is a huge hot chocolate and pancake fan so Parkhouse also scores in those areas. It's the ONLY place we can all agree on when they come to town. Their favorite...Dave & Busters.

Recipe Organization -- computer

My husband, the computer programmer, made me a website where I can input and store all my recipes and access them from anywhere, handy when we were long distance dating and traveling back and forth. As time as gone on it has become more of a place to store ingredient lists.

BO from table nearby

bleck! that's just awful, how does their DC even handle it? I feel the same way about perfume and cologne. I just can't handle it.

Tomatoes

Living in San Diego, a lot of our produce comes from Mexico, including tomatoes. I buy locally grown from the farmer's market and occasionally the mexican cherry or grape tomatoes from Trader Joes. We ate some of the mexican grape tomatoes last night, so far so good.

I'd like your favorite sandwich recipe and your least favorite food ingredient.

My favorite sandwiches?
BLTA
leftover turkey on sourdough with cranberry sauce
tuna salad on whole wheat seedy bread
tuna melt, same as above but with cheese
PB & J with all natural crunchy PB and homemade pomegranate jelly
veggie sammy with sprouts, cukes, radish, lettuce, tom, avo, & hummus, in a ww pita

Sandwich straight from my childhood, fried potato with mayo on white, my grandpa from OK used to make us this

My awful list,
margarine, miracle whip, cool whip, american cheese slices, processed lunch meat, HFCS sodas and diet sodas, liver, canned fruit and vegetables, nonfat milk, fake crab, anything goat...cheese, milk, meat... my sister has goats and goat products smell and tastes like dirty, stinky goat feet
