Where to eat on St Kitts ( other then The Beach House)

We just got back from St. Kitts and stayed at the Marriott. Nice central location (though not a viable beach by any means). And you can use points for your stay!
We did not avail ourselves of the restaurants along the strip nearby, but enjoyed a pleasant walk to Frigate Bay at night and ate at several places there. Shiggety Shack was a fun atmosphere but not such fun food (the soups were great though; conch chowder and pumpkin); Buddies further down the beach was terrific and the fish soup and fresh local grilled fish were awesome. You can choose your own catch of the day if you ask! Ask for Tony the waiter; he's wonderful.

At South Friar's Beach (aka Shipwreck Beach--our favorite for beaching it) there is a new place called Jam Rock. It's terrific! The owner is a lovely Jamaican man and the food really authentic. It's a great alternative to the new Carambola a bit down the beach that seemed way too...whatever for our tastes. Caribbean tapas? Coconut schnitzel? Uh-uh (though their beach chairs are the best--you rent any chairs and umbrellas at each establishment).
Jam Rock has fiery but flavorful jerk…and the biggest lobster hands-down I have seen (and it's one price, not by the pound). Grilled and served with locals vegs and rice, it was a feast. They also have saltfish fritters which are hard to find, and some fabulous drinks. Lovely bartender named Amy too, who is a vet student at the school. We are missing it as I write!

Beach Bars in Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Barbados; please help us drink it all in!

Jam Rock on South Friar's Bay Beach!! (aka Shipwreck Beach). Close to town (20 min ride or less?), great food, drinks and lovely Jamaican proprietor and vet student bartender. Way more mellow atmosphere than Carambola down the beach, where the cabbies try and steer you and a lot less $$. Carambola does have them some nice seating outside though.....PS we are in our 50's.

Sri Lankan on Staten Island-time for an update!

Thanks so much! My mouth is watering.....

Anniversary in Brooklyn, short notice

If you go early, maybe Frankies Spuntino or Prime Meats? Both are great (though I prefer Frankie's).
We find if you get almost anywhere at 6ish, you can have a drink at the bar and by the time you are seated, it is filling up and you get the full restaurant vibe yet not such a long wait.

Final pre-baby date night!

We went to Soigne a few weeks ago for a "special" dinner (turned out to be marriage proposal t my surprise) and it was lovely. Not cheap, but very reasonable for what you got and....roomy! I remember those days being pregnant and feeling a tad resentful of being squeezed at trendy places.

We also checked out Lot 20 (is that the right name?) on Sixth Ave and 20th St and it looked great; limited menu but a really nice one. And there is the new Piccolini.

Fonda on 7th Ave is also really great; not cheap but excellent.

Sri Lankan on Staten Island-time for an update!

Hello; we are heading to the mall for returns and sales and I have been meaning to try a Sri Lankan place on SI.

The newest post I can find is from 2009.....has anyone been to one recently and can recommend? Prefer not to do the buffet thing unless is it so fabulously recommended.

Thanks in advance!

Uptown help for downtown eaters!

Ooh, all great suggestions. I did try Bar Boulud first thing, but forgot it's Fashion Week.....hard to get anything I fear. Thanks for ideas and now, off to Open Table.

Uptown help for downtown eaters!

Good morning--on a rare "date day" my partner and I are going to see a movie this afternoon which only remains playing at Lincoln Plaza Cinema (around Broadway and 63rd). We go out almost exclusively below Madison Park or so, so I am lost to find a good, not so high-end place uptown. Think Momofuko Noodle Bar, Desnuda, Mono, etc. Can anyone offer a suggestion for an early dinner? Thanks in advance!

NYC Foodie coming to Myrtle Beach/Charleston

We did go out to Murrell's Inlet, twice--thanks to all the CHers who recommended that. Our friends from Conway said they thought Lee's Inlet had gone downhill so we did Russell's and Sara J's (if I have that right). Both were wonderful; Sara J's was so much food I could not believe it, and all good. That is a wonderful place to go for fried seafood. Russell's had the best she-crab soup ever....

Where around Myrtle Beach can I find a shrimpburger?

No, we continued on and checked into our hotel in Charleston and had two great dinners there (posted elsewhere). And then each day after the historic/sightseeing stuff we drove out to Folly Beach to swim and sun. What a great city! Finished the trip off with a stop at SeeWee Restaurant in Awendaw(? on Rt. 17....great lunch.

Charleston SC-----Great place to eat alone at the bar

We just ate at McCrady's and I noticed a list of bar snacks (served only at the bar) which were phenomenal looking. It was a nice bar, too. Our dinner was top-notch so I would recommend anything there.

Husk or McCrady's?

Well we solved the Husk/McCrady's decision by doing both. Two completely different experiences. While both were great, my husband and I both agreed McCrady's was one of the best meals--and dining experiences--we have ever had. Everything is done with either 3- or 4-course meals; we opted for 4. Each course was small enough that at the end we were not overly stuffed--like we have been too often this vacation-- but not at all hungry either. Just perfect sizes and perfectly crafted food. Each course was like a little work of art. And we did a 1/2 glass wine tasting with each course, chosen by the wonderful (young, female) sommelier. Really, everything was perfect. Not cheap, but to these NYers, a very good deal for how well we ate.

Husk too was wonderful; great food but much more chill atmosphere and younger crowd. At 10PM we were the last diners at McCrady's; 10PM at Husk they were still seating. Wonderful food as well; that man Sean Brock can COOK. Also both had fabulous "artisinal" cocktails that we very much enjoyed. Husk had a wine list divided by terroir, which is the first time I have seen that. Along with the fried chicken skins we had with them....oh man, happy fat overload. But they were so light and crunchy and outrageous-tasting.

Where around Myrtle Beach can I find a shrimpburger?

As my kids would say, OMG-- thank you Sue, for that recommendation of Buddy Roe's. We drove from Conway to Charleston today and detoured to Mt. Pleasant; what a shrimpburger that was. Thanks so much; we would never have found that without your help!

Where around Myrtle Beach can I find a shrimpburger?

Oh thanks so much; can't wait. Thanks SC Chowhounds....let us know if you need NYC help...

Where around Myrtle Beach can I find a shrimpburger?

This NYer is coming to Charleston area in a couple of days which cannot come fast enough....what inspired this trip was a shrimp burger I had here in NYC that was AMAZING. First thing off the plane (at Myrtle Beach) I want another! Where could we go? We will have dinner that night with friends in Conway but I want to get right to the seafood! (and beach too if we could....)

Thanks for all the suggestions

Husk or McCrady's?

AH....as NYer I want "Southern" food (much as I love suckling pig). Sue in Mt P; they are surprisingly outdated on their websites with menus....we actually had a reservation at McCrady's and then saw Husk's menu and it looked so good--but both are from June. And we have one at S.N.O.B as well. Thanks for replies!

Husk or McCrady's?

With all the great help from fellow Chowhounds, this NYer is planning next weeks visit (the eating part). The one dilemma--Thursday night dinner. Doing SNOB Wednesday night (and probably lunches outside the city too!) but can't decide on Thursday dinner between Sean Brock's two places....any thoughts that could sway my choice either way? Thank you!

NYC Foodie coming to Myrtle Beach/Charleston

Thanks so much for all the replies--they not only gave me good suggestions but a bit of an area overview (how would we have know Murrell's Inlet?) Can't wait; we just booked tickets for week after next. Thanks again fellow CHs.

These are such wonderful suggestions; thanks so much! We are coming in a few weeks so I look forward to whatever summer seafood we can find.

Thank you! I have seen lots written about Sean Brock;s restaurants and one article mentioned 82 Queen as well, I believe.

...with visions of shrimp every way in my head. What are "not to miss" meals or your particular items?
Favorite Southern restaurants; old-style or reinterpreted? Areas you love?

We are staying for a few days with friends in Myrtle Beach then on to B&B or such in Charleston.
I want to try it all!

Thanks in advance....

Great Caesar! Dressing recipes needed...

This is a great recipe. I was trying to figure out what was missing when I read it and realized it was anchovies; then realized I myself was out of anchovies while making caesar. I added a bit more Worcestershire and 1/3 less oil to accommodate my tastes and whipped it up in the blender.....it come out wonderfully.

Patio Delray

Wish we had seen this when we were just in Delray! (I hope to be back soon).

If you are interested in what people think of your restaurant.....start reading "Yelp!". And if people comment favorably, ask them to post their good feelings on "Yelp!" . It is an invaluable marketing tool (and great to peruse if one is looking for food, services, etc.)

Good luck with your venture.

Any can't miss/must have dining in Hollywood?

While it is a clean and nice place, I have to reply to characterizing Sugar Reef as Caribbean.....(having traveled to many, many islands as well as New Orleans, whose food they also feature).

Nice-looking food, well-intentioned--good service staff (I am former rest. partner), well-sourced ingredients---but oh, so bland, the flavors. We really wanted to like dinner.....great location. But just so, so bland.

Staying at Westin Diplomat on Hollywood Beach. Any great restaurants in the area?

Billy's Stone Crab.....enough said. Try and get a glider booth (actual outdoor gliders, with cushions) or a table right there on the Inter-Coastal. Magic on a nice night....and oh, those crabs. The conch fritters rock as well.

Second that on Sugar Reef. Place looked, good, food looked good--but tasted so bland. Lot of $$ and not much punch in return.

Do we HAVE to eat breakfast at Diplomat?

In answer to my own question, post-vacation: there is a nice little place just south of the Diplomat on Ocean Ave, even closer than 7-11--it's called South Ocean Cafe, I believe, and has great Cuban coffee as well as pancakes, smoothies, sandwiches--just what we were looking for. Erratic hours, though, and they weren't always there when they said they would be open. But great coffee and breakfast!

Very special New Year's dinner in Hollywood, FL area

Post-dinner report: While we were underwhelmed by the decor (lack of) at the restaurant, and the lack of food (we had 3 vegetarians, and were promised fish--there was none at restaurant and they were out of any vegetables we could use as entree), those were some very, very tasty steaks. Well prepared and lovely side dishes. Even great chicken nuggets for the little ones. Thanks for all the advice.
