Baked Ziti recipe anyone?
I made a batch a couple weeks ago. Used extra cheese all around. Too good to be true.
Toronto's Best Italian?!?
Looks like Tutti Matti may have taken over the crown for now. No bad experiences or reviews surrounding this one. Porchetta Tonnata, Lamb Tagliatelle to die for, perfect veal cheeks, what's not to like?

Trevor's on Wellington
I think Trevor jumped the shark when the good reviews started coming in. Perhaps it's gone to their heads? If their recent Winterlicious offerings are anything to go by, they won't be around much longer. Soggy confit, boring steak, half-assed waitering, overpriced wines, I could go on. I certainly hope they get their act together again, as that area can use more good restos.
ISO: The Best Panettone in T.O.
(Not that Longo's was expensive. It was downright cheap, so good value.)
ISO: The Best Panettone in T.O.
So... tried the Bauli and the Longo's signature brand. Both were good enough, with good taste and mouth feel. (The last few years, I had tried all the cut-rate brands to varying degrees of success, so I didn't want to go back.)
Will try the Tre Marie next Xmas.
Still looking for opinions on the expensive Italian brands... are they worth the expense?
ISO: The Best Panettone in T.O.
A request to all GTA Chowhounders, esp. our Italian brothers and sisters (who should presumably be experts on this):
What do you consider to be the best panettone -- i.e. the best brand -- to be found in Toronto? And where can we pick this up?
TIA, YY.
Decent Chinese in Athens?
It turns out there is a large Philippine community in Ampelokipi. Not sure of exact location.
You may be able to find Asian ingredients plentiful around there, or so I've been told.
Good hunting.
Suggestions please: Near Étienne Marcel station, Paris
Thanks leejay.
Better late than never, I suppose.
I'll keep all this in mind when next there.
Suggestions for Naxos Restaurants.
We had a small discussion about this a few years ago. The info might still be current, who knows? See:

Caplansky's - You have got to be kidding me!
I'll second the disagreement.
Zane seems to have lost it and it's too bad; we really really needed a Schwartz's taste-alike here in T.O. And Zane's win at the Smoked Meat Duel at Wychwood is not going to help matters any. I'll have to start frequenting the Free Times Cafe to get that Goldin's meat. (Yum.)

Chimichanga on Yonge near Eg
Guacamole prep was nice, yes, and it wasn't bad guac.
Went with a group for beers: Nachos were pretty good. Went back another night: positively horrendous -- runny, tasteless salsa and unrecognizable ingredients.
This place is obviously hit and miss. It'll take a while before I go anywhere near it again. The horror, the horror...
Smoked Salmon in Greece
Can anyone provide a list of markets -- or any establishments, really -- selling smoked salmon (lox; thin-sliced, cured, cold-smoked) in Greece? Athens, Patras and Thessaloniki are preferred cities, but if you know of anywhere else, I'm all ears. Thanks.
Decent Chinese in Athens?
Hi all. And thanks for all the commentary over the last two years. I'll be back in Greece soon and can't wait to try some of the suggestions.
Copacabana on Eglinton and Mt Pleasant
What a silly place.
But at least the all-you-can-eat (and then some) crowd have a new place to go.
Smoked Meat Duel at Wychwood
Goldin's won, hands down -- my entire group agreed, and we had chefs in the audience. Stockyards second (too sweet and the spicing was off-putting), Caplansky dead last (tepid, gray, chewy).
Bamburger BIG disappointment
I should have checked the boards before going. Definitely a place to be avoided, as their burgers are nothing to write home about. And, yes, anything decent (either on the burger or on the side) is extra. Not a good approach in this economy.
Dizzy on Yonge - closed?
Bamburger not doing well for a reason. You can make a better burger at home.
Best Beef Ho Fun (aka Beef Hor Fun) in Toronto?
Yum! Keep the suggestions coming.
Thanks to all so far.
Best Beef Ho Fun (aka Beef Hor Fun) in Toronto?
I guess I'm looking more for something that really stands out in your mind. It's true that most are good, but which ones are really, really, really good?
Any T.O. burger joint to rival the The Burger Joint in NYC?
True. I guess I should have specified "regular" burger or, perhaps, a regular priced burger of similar taste. Say anything less than $8. (Definitely not the Foie Gras versions or those $30 gourmet versions so much the rage a few years ago -- those are truly a different beast.)
Any T.O. burger joint to rival the The Burger Joint in NYC?
Nothing fancy, no embellishments. Just a good, simple barbequed burger. Juicy, smoky, and tasty as anything you've ever had (I'm talking BBQ meat-wise). They make a small burger or cheeseburger (two cheeses), it costs around $5 per, and everyone flocks to this place -- young and old, rich or threadbare, famous or infamous or shut-in.
Grand Chinese Cuisine – Amongst the finest dim sum restaurants in Toronto (lengthy review + pics)
Got to agree with BokChoi. Grand is definitely a keeper. Hope they stay in business a good long time.
Any T.O. burger joint to rival the The Burger Joint in NYC?
If that yumminess is overated, I'd love to try one that's better. (I'm still licking my fingers.) Suggestions?
Cheapest place to buy cashews (poor student budget working here!)
No Frills Unsalted Pee Wee Cashews - a relative bargoon at $5 for 400g. And their natural almonds are good, too (crunchy and tasty) -- usually $5 for 500g, if you can find them, which you usually can't for some reason.
TTC Subway Dash & Dine 2010
Good list, Googs, although I would remove Pantheon. (Some readers might remember how I feel about Danforth Greek.)
Just a note to others: Daio (Japanese on Carlton) has the most sublime Udon soup. Recommended.
Inexpensive but good Greek
Don't bother with that one. I know of a few people (with not even particularly good taste in food) who have hated it.
Best Beef Ho Fun (aka Beef Hor Fun) in Toronto?
I have loved this Chinese noodle dish, ever since trying it at Noodle Delight many many moons ago (there it was known as the Kobe Beef Noodle). I have since tried it at various restaurants with varying degrees of success. Where is your favourite being served?
Any T.O. burger joint to rival the The Burger Joint in NYC?
Just got back from NYC and had the distinct pleasure of trying the Burger Joint hamburgers (tucked away in Le Parker Meridien hotel, midtown Manhattan -- rated the best burger in NYC and indeed in the USA).
Has anyone found anything even remotely similar in T.O., I mean in terms of flavour, juiciness, etc.? TIA.
