honeymoon on Maui, in Wailea - must eat recs?

heading there in a week, this is just what I was looking for

Cyrus -- Downhill or as Good as Ever?

Only been there once, late spring last year and it was outstanding. Definitely a great place for a special meal, I recommend it without hesitation.

Still waiting for news of Anthony Mangieri's pizzeria

Is there a location in place already?

Going to Panama- Where to eat?

We're heading out to PC and Bocas Sunday night. Staying at the Marriott in PC but we don't get in until around 10pm on Sunday and I'm wondering if we'll be able to find a nice (or any) place for dinner by the time we get checked in and settled.

I'm hoping to check out Madame Chang' and La Posta but definitely open to other suggestions - Beirut? Ten?

Fine Dining (or at least upscale) near College Park Caltrain Station?

Thursday evening, no car but happy to cab if need be.

Fine Dining (or at least upscale) near College Park Caltrain Station?

Hi, we're staying near the College Park Caltrain station in a few weeks before flying out of SJ the next morning. I'm wondering what type of higher end options are available nearby (staying at the Sheraton Milpitas)? We're open to any cuisine, just really trying to avoid any chain restaurants and hoping for a local gem.

Pican in Oakland: Review

We went on Friday before a show at the Fox, first time there. The first thing I noticed was the dress was more formal (business casual) than I expected - maybe the thought of southern food goes along with a more casual environment for me. That said, even though we were a little underdressed (jeans and t's) no one said anything to us.

The extensive bourbon list is great if you enjoy bourbon (I do) and the prices weren't totally outrageous for what seem to be some harder to find/rare bourbons.

Onto the food - I had a panzanella salad with heirloom tomatoes, peaches, spinach and small chunks of bacon. This was absolutely incredible. It tasted like August on a plate, absolutely outstanding.

Our table shared the fried chicken (with truffle honey drizzled tableside) and the ribs. Easily the best fried chicken I've ever had in my life. As mentioned before, it's a breast and a leg, no thigh which is kind of a bummer but oh well. The ribs were pretty good, not my favorite but some interesting flavor combinations - if it was all I ordered I wouldn't have been disappointed. The cole slaw was oustanding (as a few others have mentioned) - the peanuts and dressing were really nice and unique.

All in all, the place isn't cheap but the fried chicken is outstanding, the panzanella is outstanding and I will definitely be back soon. I will say, if you're going before a show at the Fox or Paramount, you'll probably want to let your server know so they can pace the meal accordingly.

Henry's Gastropub in Berkeley?

It's one of our favorite spots to grab a quick bite and a few cocktails before heading to shows at The Greek. It's pretty casual but they do a great job with the food. It's not fine dining but more of a higher end bar with overachieving food. Does that make sense?

If you're solo, it would be a good spot to sit at the bar and catch a game or two on the TV over dinner.

Aziza last night - short review

(also posted under "Aziza - must haves")

I went last night with the SO, her mom and sister. First time there since Maldonado came over from Grand Cafe. Food is still very good, I thought the spreads were better than last time we went, the summer beans were great and the cocktails were fantastic. The octopus app was very good as well. The sauce that it comes with is sneaky delicious (the flavor is not at all what you'd expect when looking at it.)

The Aziza Couscous is still very good but no longer has the lamb sausage with it. It has been one of my favorite dishes in the entire city - it still is but wasn't *quite* as good as I remember. The squab was outstanding and the beef dish was very good. The halibut was the weakest of the 4, a little bland but I didn't get to try any of the sides it came with.

I felt like the bastilla was different from last time, a little sweeter and I don't remember powdered sugar being on it last time around.

Service was a little spotty last night - it looked like we had only one server (but plenty of support staff) for our entire section. Plus the server mentioned he had just returned from vacation which might have explained his struggles in discussing some of the dishes.

Overall, I still love the place and look forward to visiting them again soon.

Top Craft Cocktails/Mixology in San Francisco?

Aziza is very underrated IMO. It might not be for everyone but they have a vodka drink muddled with fresh basil and meyer lemon that is absolutely outstanding.

Third St/Howard, SF

Thirsty Bear is pretty good, Pazzia is also very good. Can you give me an idea of what you're looking for? Sandwiches, salad, pasta? If you're in a hurry, Madeleine's (sp) on New Montgomery has tasty salads, I'd also recommend the Sentinel it's at New Montgomery near Mission (right next to House of Shields.)

1st Visit to Gary Danko (got tips?)

I wore a jacket and tie but the range was from golf shirts and jeans to full suits on the men. Women were primarily in skirts/dresses. I don't think you'd need a jacket but definitely a nice dress shirt to feel in the mix.

1st Visit to Gary Danko (got tips?)

We went to GD for the first time last night. I thought it was outstanding. The service was fantastic, the food was wonderful and the overall experience was one I'll remember for a long time.

Don't have time for a full review but the lamb entree, scallops, lobster entree and the strawberry rhubarb tart were all amazing. The cheese cart was very strong as well.

For a special occasion, I don't think you could go wrong here.

1st Visit to Gary Danko (got tips?)

Great, thank you!

U - or anyone else who's been

Does GD offer wines by the glass or just by the bottle/half bottle?

Restaurant Gary Danko Review - a GREAT experience

Thanks for the extensive review, heading to GD for the first time on Sunday...can't wait.

$1 oysters

Thanks!

Tony Bourdain in San Francisco

Not sure that I'd faint but it would be cool to know what he's up to in town.

Best chef's tasting menu in SF?

I'd add Jardiniere to the SF list. My favorite in the city - although I haven't tried a ton of them.

No sens-e eating at Sens

We went last Friday, we won't be going back. The service was "off", the food was not that memorable and it was an overall disappointing experience. The one bright spot was the room itself, very cool and nice view of the Ferry Building. Other than that, skip it.

Las Vegas Tasting Menu Deals

We'll be spending most of the day watching hoops so I wanted something on the more casual end of upscale dining. I'll do my best to report back after the trip. Our group does a Friday night dinner at Del Friscos to kick off the weekend - I figure seafood on Saturday should be a good balance after Friday's red meat feast.

Las Vegas Tasting Menu Deals

After seeing this thread we booked a table at Sea Blue for next Saturday. $95 for a tasting menu and wine pairing seems like a great deal - especially for a Mina restaurant.

Dear god and/or Chowhounds.....save me from Chevy's!

I'd add Mamacita's in the Marina to the list but it's probably a bit pricier than Chevy's. Although Chevy's at 3rd & Howard isn't that cheap - but it's always packed with tourists or conference goers from Moscone.

Need some chow help: NOPA, Brick or Canteen?

Thanks, we ended up at NOPA and it was fantastic. The food was all very well prepared - we had the warm goat cheese app, the white bean app (my favorite of the night), pork chop and the papparedelle. I'm really excited to go back and try the burger along with a few other things.

The one thing that really stood out was how much fun the staff seemed to be having and how much they seemed to enjoy working there. I haven't had that feeling at a restaurant in some time.

Solo Dining In Vegas

I've solo dined at Del Friscos and Mesa Grill, enjoyed them both tremendously. Probably Del Friscos more than Mesa but it was a slower night and the bartender had more time to stay on top of things for me.

Need some chow help: NOPA, Brick or Canteen?

I found out Canteen is closed for the inauguration until 1/22, off to NOPA tonight.

I've been to La Folie, Zuni, Slanted Door, A16, etc

Another vote for Aziza
-great food
-great cocktails
-fun atmosphere
-pretty much everything Ruth mentioned

Need some chow help: NOPA, Brick or Canteen?

Heading out for dinner tomorrow with the SO and we want to try one of these three - never been to any of them. I've heard great things about NOPA and Canteen, haven't heard much about Brick. I believe they're all pretty similar in price.

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
