Cooking Papa (Foster City)

Thanks to you all for the comments over the months. I just signed on for the first time in a while and wanted to see what kind of reviews FC CP had gotten here. I learned a lot from this thread.

I have been to FC CP about a half dozen times and really enjoyed the food.

Shrimp Wonton Soup

Rice Noodle wrapped Fried Roll

Rice Noodle with Shredded Duck

Sauteed Beef Filet with mixed mushrooms (really good!)

Prawns with Walnuts in mayo sauce

Boneless Chicken Chow Mein (meh)

Sweet and Sour Pork

Pork Belly

Chow Fun with Shrimp and Eggs (just ok)

And I think we have had the Egg Puffs everytime, this last time they were just warm where before they were always scalding hot out of the fryer.

Seems like I need to try some of the other dishes mentioned here. I think they have a hit though, on weekends you have to be there before 11 a.m. or you are waiting.

Menlo Park: Dutch Goose - burgers, brisket and beer?

Wow, I have lived here for 40+ years and never heard of the place. LOL!

Please help me get over my egg loathing

I love eggs! However my recommendation is to fry them in bacon grease! I could eat cardboard fried in bacon grease.

Where to get beignets in San Mateo or near by?

CreoLA in San Carlos has them as a dessert item.

Essential food to try in Half Moon Bay?

I used to love Cetrella, but things have changed there and I've not been since so can't really speak to the food now. It was fabulous before, they always had one pizza special and it was always amazing. Plus a lot of other good dishes as well.

San Mateo's new Osteria Coppa (from HMB's Sam's)

I admit I am pretty damn excitied about this myself...website is here:

Looks very good and priced decently. Is this in the old Gator's location? If not maybe the place next door which was a vacuum shop IIRC.

Best Cheese pizzas?

Pizza Speederia in San Carlos makes a great cheese pizza available by the slice. Also, the Whitestone has a large blob of ricotta on it as well as garlic.

The Special is 2 slices and a drink for $6!

Pepples Donuts at the Ferry Plaza - a full review

This is awesome and inspiring! Thanks for sharing!

where is the best dim sum in chinatown

Sorry wolfe I couldn't resist!

where is the best dim sum in chinatown

Paging Hank Stramm for his secret Dim Sum spot.

Tomales Bay, Marshall General Store, Hog Island - Oysters in July?

According to an article I read by the owners sometime ago it is actually more or an issue in the winter when the runoff from storm drains can have an adverse affect on the water in the Bay.

Unfortunate food trend: the "cornbread" scone.

The English Rose in San Carlos is a breakfast place that makes their own scones. Sweet, creamy with a little crumble to them, very good!

Beteasily better than Refuge? Wow, that is a serious challenge!

Great map, kudos to P Punko!

Chinese food: Millbrae - San Mateo

I like Dim Sum at The Kitchen in MIllbrae. Otherwise I eat at Joy in Foster City regularly. Very good but I am not sure it's "typical". Potstickers are a must but are really quite different from the usual ones.

New Sandwich Truck in Redwood City!

I was at Kaiser getting a Rx which wasn't ready so I had 20 minutes free. I had passed a food truck while finding parking, so I walked back down to the corner of Veterans and Walnut and found the truck, "The Southern Sandwich Co." I was their first customer on their first day of business! I had the Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of potato salad and real sweet iced tea to drink. The sandwich had a good size portion of tender, smoky and spicy pulled pork, pickles, onions and coleslaw on a toasted sesame seed bun dressed with mustard. It was excellent, The potato sald good as well, more mustard and vinegar flavor than mayo making it not so heavy. I couldn't finish the salad. Tea was not cloyingly sweet which I was prepared for, very good pair for the sandwich.

Run by 2 nice lads who used to run a place in the city, Frisee I think they said. Both are from Texas originally.

They only had 2 sanwich offerings today but are going to ramp up. I urged them to do a fried chicken sandwich which they said was planned but wanted to get the recipe and execution right first.

They will be around the RC area as well as street fairs, food festivals, surf spots etc.

If you see the all black truck in RC don't hesitate to stop by and encourage them to get the fried chicken sandwich going soon!

Pregnant - Dim Sum Craving -take out options near the SF Airport area or San Jose

Agree with The Kitchen, on El Camino in Millbrae, one exit from SFO. Yummy Dim Sum!

then he asks

If you want prepared Fabrique Delices is at the San Mateo Farmers Mkt on Wed and Saturdays, they have Terrine slices cryovac'd. Would recommend Fatted Calf's Torchon as well.

RL thank you for the link to GC, I am going to stop by there soon.

Fook Yuen Closed?

Thanks all, looks like I have some new places to check out!

Fook Yuen Closed?

Drove by yesterday around 11 a.m. and the place was deserted, they used to be packed for dim sum on Sunday mornings. I tried the number and it's disconnected, so I assume it has closed.

Now that Joy Luck closed in SM I need a new dim sum recommendation on the peninsula. Any input appreciated! TIA!

the best SANDWICH in (San Francisco) period.

I don't see Refuge on this list. While not in SF, just south in San Carlos and excellent home made Pastrami. A Reuben to die for!

Where to buy Turkey Parts on the Peninsula?

Maybe Dittmer's in Mt View?

Does good butter matter? If so, what to get in San Francisco?

I use Plugra at home and sometimes spring for Lurpak which is pricier but richer to my tastes.

At the Farmers Markets Spring Hill makes an amazing butter.

Cyrus review (Healdsburg CA)

Great review. I wish I could give you a list of places to go just to read your reports! Speaking of which, where are you going next?

Dinner suggestions San Carlos area

Anyone been to Creola lately? I used to like it a lot.

Le Croque-off

My SIL had the Crooque Madame at Artisan Bistro in Lafayette. The whole meal was fabulous, everyone enjoyed it.

SF: The Ghirardelli World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae

Kudos, your post brought back memories. This was one of the first places I visited when we moved to the Peninsula in 1968. And I had the Hot Fudge Sundae!

Good Swedish meatballs in the Bay Area?

Thanks wolfe, I missed that completely and not sure how...
