Update on Wegmans near Ft. Belvoir

I don't know much about G Mart's processes so I can't comment on that. However, I thought that Wegmans already had something of a structure in place? I also thought that Wegmans site selection process is so thorough that a deal being cancelled this far in the process would be nearly impossible

Update on Wegmans near Ft. Belvoir

Does anyone know if this structure is actually built? It sounds like it is just a delay based on the articles I have read. Is it possible (I know anything is possible) that it just nixes the deal?

Le Bernardin China

Had a great weekday lunch at Le Bernardin last week. I really like their plates and was thinking of getting some for when I entertain. Does anyone know how I might be able to get them? I looked for a contact email on the website but came up empty. A google search also revealed little. Please help!

Mail Order for a 60th birthday celebration

Looking for a good mail order option to get some food for my father's December 60th birthday. I am looking to spend $125 or less, including shipping. I am also looking for something a little different and something for the grill. It would need to be for 8-10 people. Other food will also supplement the mail order goods. What does everything think?

Best Age Your Own Whisky

Does anyone have any recommendations for a home aged whisky? I would have to be able to get it (local or shipped) in VA or DC. I like Breckenridge's kit but i think it is too expensive and they don't ship. Please help!

Bourbon Steak lately?

Looking for dinner (4 people-double date) on Sunday night before a 7:30 kencen show. Anyone been lately? Particularly under new chef? The dining room doesn't open until 6. Should we just eat in lounge? Any recs? Last time I went, I had a tasting menu and this will be much narrower in scope.

pre theatre

Headed to see Lucky Guy on Saturday night. Right now, we have reservations for Esca and have been really excited. However, we will be touring about town all day on Saturday. Likely, that would mean I would have jeans and a button up (casual but classy dress for GF likely). Will we be underdressed for Esca? should we look elsewhere for pre theater?

confession time: I got sick in November and we did not do the November trip. We still stay around the same criteria. I am digging the idea of the tasting menu at Gramercy Tavern. we will now be there on saturday and sunday nights (through monday morning)

Help us refresh this list. Staying near Gramercy Park. Eataly? Gramercy Tavern (Tavern room) on a Saturday--long wait? Neightborhood place? Other ideas?

They are all great recommendations. I was thinking more along the lines of sandwich, pizza, or noodle shop. Street food over nice sit down restaurant for Friday night.

I think we will do Breslin on Saturday morning

Late is not THAT late. It is just dependent on when we arrive in town. Expected around 9:00 or so

Here's the plan. Critique if you wish. Thanks for all your help thus far.
Friday evening: playing late casual dinner by ear around MSG and Theater District (Suggestions please)
Saturday morning: Penelope (or other breakfast place around midtown)
Saturday night: Gramercy Tavern Tavern room (by 6 to avoid waits)
Sunday morning: bagels and coffee
Sunday lunch: Barbuto for lunch/brunch

ABC Kitchen looks like it could really fit the bill, particularly for lunch on saturday or sunday. Unfortunately, the website is wonky for me and I cannot see the whole menu. Could someone give me the two sentence description, please? Thank you!

Wow Kathryn. Thanks for all the links. I will definitely check those out. I tried doing some searching first but thought I was missing the point a little.

As for proximity, even though we will be touring, we want to relax and enjoy ourselves as well. My expectation is that if we found places we really wanted to eat, we would just grab a cab to that place, as long as it was not more than 20 or so minutes each way.

ToriShin sounds good but I think the earlier suggestions are more in line with what will work for this trip

Alternatively, running into a restraurant as a break from touring and have one can't miss $25 dish, I wouldn't mind doing that either.

Also, we will likely keep breakfast light and brunch dishes are not necessarily going to fit into the schedule.

Thanks to everyone so far. I don't think my brain was attached to my typing hands on my initial post. I will offer some further clarifications.
Only one of us is drinking (and maybe I won't even drink) but that doesn't play into my budget.
Rather than $50 per person, maybe I should have said around $35 or less for an entree. We would likely share an app or dessert and than have an entree. I would pay for a $60 three course meal if I needed to stretch my budget a little.
I have been to NYC several times but the gf has not. Therefore, we will likely be eating at places that are somewhat convenient to touristy areas. This trip is hers and I won't distract TOO much by eating. Read: no ground zero touring followed by Red Rooster.
Yes, I meant Gramercy Tavern ( sorry for the typo) because I really admire Danny Meyer. I was also thinking Craft or Craftbar.
Cannot be too fancy because we will be touring
We will likely be eating lunch casually, like in lounge areas of nice restaurants, if possible.
Would aim to have something a bit healthy or at least not super heavy. Neither of us like offal.

I hope this helps contonie the great conversation!

DC hound here looking for some suggestions. Two of us will be visiting Manhattan the second weekend of December to enjoy the Christmas decorations. We need a place for lunch and dinner on Saturday. We want to stay under $50 per person before tax and tip and would like to stay in Manhattan. I was looking through Adam Platt's 101 for 2012 and we liked a lot of ideas. By looking at that, we decided we wanted: new American, Italian, farm to table, and perhaps seafood. We would stay away from Asian, Spanish, Mexican, and the like. Some of our favorites from browsing the list would be: Gramercy Park Tavern, Sfoglia, Craft (in tap room), Del Posto, Eataly, and Blue Hill.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanksgiving Mail Order Tips

Good morning-
I am looking to send some great food to Colorado for Thanksgiving. What are some of your favorite online mail order foodstuffs? It does not have to be typical Thanksgiving fare but should include a meat (best turkey ever, ham, steak, etc.). I would also not like to spend over $100. It will be feeding 4-6 people. It could also just be meat and we could do sides locally. Please help!

Estadio cheat sheet - what items have you tried?

I loved the veggie Bocadillo. I also had the Sherry Glazed Halibut and it was excellent. The service was very spotty and we had to flag him down nearly every time

Best Dining at Bar / Traveling alone

I would second Bourbon Steak and Palena and would add Corduroy. I have been to Fiola alone at the bar and struggled with the bar and stools. If I recall, it was tough to get over the bar (or wear a bib).

Park Slope recommendations

I am a DC Hound looking for Park Slope recommendations. I will be staying with some friends in Brooklyn at about 5th Avenue and 4th Street. one of my friends said that there is a ton of restaurants and bars around his place. However, I wanted get chow recommendations as well. Our general criteria would be italian, indian, thai, or American. Nothing too adventurous. We also would like to stay right around the mid-$20 entree range. Great taps are a plus. We are in our late 20s and casual dress is important for this trip. Please help.

Lasagna Help

Dinner in downtown DC

Definitely. I have eaten there alone. The bartenders aren't always particularly talkative but they will definitely talk to you. The bar area is somewhat isolated from the dining room so you won't feel funny. It does get a bit of a happy hour crowd on Fridays, though. If you are there by 6, you should be fine

Lasagna Help

I have been racking my brain all night about a lasagna I had several years ago. Please help me locate the lasagna because I might some during my next trip. My details are sketchy but I remember the lasagna was thickly sauced (bechamel), within a few blocks of the theatre district. maybe 4th ave and 46th street. It was a very small place with two levels. It is quite dark with lots of candles. very casual and a very country grandma-ly vibe (especially the restrooms. It won some NY Magazine or similar best lasagna at some point in the past. please help!
