Bourbon Steak
does anyone have any recent experiences at Bourbon Steak? My trip there in February made me want to go running back but I haven't made it back
Dinner near Newseum
How about you enjoy the izakaya menu at The Source lounge. IIRC, it goes until at least 6. You can get 3 items for $20. Eating all three makes a pretty reasonable dinner. I recommend the oxtail udon, pork dumplings, and tuna ceviche cones.
Palena vs. Palena Cafe.
I went last weekend on Saturday afternoon and had a pizza with ramps, asparagus, and some housemade salami. The gnocchi had garbanzo beans and guanciale (IIRC). The soups were asparagus-based if I recall. The pile of spring vegetables seemed to still be a few weeks ago. However, the bartender did tell me that she believed nettles had come and gone.
DC Metro Center Lunch
let's get gnocchi sometime so I can pick your brain. you know EVERYTHING!
DC Metro Center Lunch
I will also add my go-to lunches. West Wing Cafe for a good sandwich, Devon and Blakely if I want to take a walk, and the Rolling Ficelle truck on Mondays. I had a curry chicken salad wrap a few weeks ago from Zola Wine and Kitchen. Even though that place has been consistent for me in the past, the chicken was the driest I have ever had on a sandwich.
DC Metro Center Lunch
The food trucks have crazy lines, especially on a nice day. Especially on a Friday!
DC Metro Center Lunch
How about an update of this list? I am looking for something seasonal for lunch today if anyone has any ideas. I semi-wanted to walk to Equinox but that is just too far for lunch hour
Is there a less well known restaurant with available reservation for 2 in DC this Saturday??
First of all, you can try to call Zaytinya. They keep a portion of the tables for open table, a portion for phone reservations, and a portion for walk ins. you may have some luck. Also try: Bibiana (Italian), Poste (New American), PS 7 (American), or The Hamilton (American and Sushi). Over on K, you could try DC Coast (seafood) since it is more of a business lunch place and can be quieter in the evenings. Also try J&G Steakhouse or Cafe Du Parc (Belgian), both in hotels on 14th St and Penn, respectively.
Estadio cheat sheet - what items have you tried?
I was able to get a reservation. Is that maybe a new policy? We would want to eat around 6. I had never eaten at either Bar Pilar or Estadio (or Masa 14 was the other option) but wanted the opinions.
Estadio cheat sheet - what items have you tried?
Is this the best bet for a dinner before a Lincoln Theatre concert tomorrow? Are there better options? Suggestions please!
FYI-The Hamilton is no longer open 24 hours
I heard through the grapevine that the overnight staff was facing a lot of unruly customers (shocker alert). During my last visit (while still operating 24 hours), a server told me that customers had to open a credit card tab and there was a mandatory 20% tip between 3-6 AM. Apparrently, the overnight customers were being aggressive, fighting, and making a lot of messes. There was a big burden on the staff, and the need to often increase staff, during these lower profit hours.
Girl Scouts Hit DC Need Good Places at Good Prices to Eat Suppers
Knowing where you will be, I would recommend Vapiano. It is on H between the Chinatown metro and your hotel. Vapiano can get very loud, especially during happy hour time. However, it serves very well as takeout back to the hotel if you so desire. The menu is pizzas, pastas, panini, and salads and would be well within your price range. Though it isn't always a hit on the board, I think it would be a good option for the group.
Meeting in the Middle for Dinner
Glad I got confirmation for my choices. We decided to do Palena Cafe, one of my favorites. We decided it would be an easy drive from Silver Spring and an easy metro ride from Chinatown. I still have not tried Ripple
Meeting in the Middle for Dinner
I am looking for some help to meet a friend for dinner. We want to meet each other someplace between SE and Silver Spring. I am not familiar with Silver Spring and the surrounding area. The original thought was to eat in Cleveland Park or thereabouts. However, I didn't realize that is the other end of the red line so that possibility is likely out. There are a few requirements: no mexican, one person has a car and one person doesn't (hence staying near metro line), and able to handle a walk in (or reservations to be made tonight) for 6:30. The driver is not particularly familiar with the city so the driving should be as painless as possible. Do I make the driver come all the way to the Union Station area? Are there other things on the red line that are good? Should I make my guest transfer to the green line and just do U Street or something similar? Please help!
Salted Caramel
I am looking to build a theme gift of the best salted caramel chocolates, cupcakes, other treats in the area (nothing frozen). The gift recipient tried the salted caramel truffle at J Chocolatier in Georgetown and was absolutely blown away. I am not a big sweets fan so I don't know the spots to find this kind of stuff. Please help me build a nice assortment! Prefer DC and Arlington.
Winter Restaurant Week Announced!
I have done and enjoyed the bar lunch a few times at Fiola. I will continue going there when I need a nice lunch
Winter Restaurant Week Announced!
Any lunchtime winners around penn quarter/metro center for a spontaneous lunch (in the lounge area) today?
Good, reasonably priced Italian in Washington, DC
This is probably not a good suggestion for the OP but what is that italian place called that opened at about the same time as Potenza and had somewhat casual refined italian near Penn Quarter? All that's in my head is Siroc but i don't think that's right
Lot 38 Espresso Bar
I noted this morning that Lot 38 Espresso Bar looks like it will open any day now. Lot 38 is in the Navy Yard area in the back (2nd street side) of the Courtyard by Marriott. It looks like a very nice space they have created in there. The coffee grinders I could see through the window were Illy branded. Whether that means they are actually brewing Illy coffee is anyone's guess. There is a big refrigerated case at the counter, too. There were bagged chips on top of the case. Hopefully, they will be selling sandwiches. That's all I know for now.
Eataly To Open In DC During 2012
How about the huge concrete pad in Eastern Market that had the post-fire "temporary" tent? I watched them take the tent down on Sunday. There must be a plan for that space?
1789 with new chef?
I am looking to hit up 1789 sometime in the next week with a few friends as a Christmas dinner. Are there any reviews with the new chef? I checked out the menu and the a la carte/tasting strategy seems to be gone. Any info would be most appreciated.
Metro Center Upscale Casual Lunch
These were all good ideas. During my next rough day, I am going to pull up to the bar and check out Fiola. The best RW lunch I have ever had (best meal, probably) was at Bibiana so I know I need to get back there. However, this situation called for a Zaytinya afternoon. We did a couple mezze and split the shredded chicken sandwich (lunch only). It was ok but just above a basic take out lunch sandwich. It didn't have much flavor. The side salad was good. Then we had the butternut squash dolmades which were excellent. I can't remember another small plate. Then we had the rice pudding special which was good but not great. I like Zaytinya and I think it is a fun atmosphere. However, if someone says Greek lately, I am suggesting Cava.
Metro Center Upscale Casual Lunch
I am looking for a place to take a friend for lunch tomorrow in Metro Center/Penn Quarter. I work in the area but I always get take out to bring back to my desk (if anyone needs recommendations from that end, I have had the good and bad). This time, I need to take my friend to an upscale casual place. She lives in New York but doesn't venture much beyond her neighborhood pizza/thai/italian place. In other words, don't need to "impress" but just want an enjoyable place. I want somewhere that has good food and a somewhat fun atmosphere but she won't be out of place in jeans (I will be in a suit) AND a place that will respect my need to get back to work. No three martini lunch this time. My choices off the top of my head would be in the realm of: Bibiana, Zaytinya, Proof, etc. I have eaten at all these places for dinner but don't know much about their lunches. Please help!
Event Space Accesible from National Harbor
I will put that on the list. may need to be a touch more casual.
Event Space Accesible from National Harbor
I need some party planning expertise. I am hosting a cocktail hour/meet and greet with my University President and Board of Trustees in March. I need some help finding a suitable space. The President and Board will be at conferences at National Harbor during the week of the event. One Trustee is wheelchair bound so the place must be accessible. We host our events at metro accessible locations so the President and Trustees have agreed to leave National Harbor. We need a place that can accomodate about 100 people (standing and a few tables), able to accomodate microphone and podium, has finger foods and drinks available, and is easily accessible for our President coming from National Harbor. My thought was to do a hotel ballroom/conf room near Braddock Road Metro or King Street metro. However, I know nothing of what those places could offer. please help!
Birch and Barley report
Most weeknights are pretty relaxed, particulary before 8 or so. I also have found that pulling up to the bar is a good bet. If you find seats on the far right (towards the street side), the crowds don't make it over there.
Summer Vegetables in the Winter
I had a tomato on a sandwich for lunch today and was reminded those are definitely not in season. Does anyone have any suggestions for local tomatoes or summer vegetables that are jarred or otherwise preserved so I can eat them during the winter? Is it possible for these to still be healthy or is there a lot of salt added? I am new to this idea so any advice would be appreciated.
