South Indian in Edmonton?

RESTAURANT CLOSED - had one more LivingSocial coupon left to use, went there past Monday and they were CLOSED! No explaination pasted on the door. Alter in front entrance was gone and lights out! Coincidentially the LiviingSocial coupon "expired" on Oct.15,2011.

Bento box supply stores Edmonton

Canakor Foods on 99th street and 31 Ave - has Japanese tableware and bento boxes.

OR try the Indian stores along 34th Ave, for stainless steel food containers.

OR reuseit.com - exchange rate is good, they have a nice selection of stuff.

Chinese Barbeque on 97th Street in Edmonton - Which is best ?

Our goto for Chinese BBQ meat is the BBQ meat counter in Lucky 97 Supermarket. The owner is generous and its our replacement since BBQ King City owners retired/sold business. Char siu tastes good. Duck is crispy and has the right mix of spices. Many we've tried have too much star anise and 5 spice. T&T is garbage, don't waste your money. We've tried all the shops up and around 97 St. and nothing good nor shops clean. Our last resort place is Good Buddy in Heritage, we live in the South Edm and its convienient.

Vacaville - Tahoe Joe's any good?

Well we ended up at Tahoe Joe's as my DH was determined to go there....for whatever reason. Anyway, another chainy place that was accomodating to my DS who has allergies to milk/dairy and eggs. Standard steakhouse decor, lots of timber and dark. Server was attentive. I had a pulled pork sand with a pile of crispy fried onions on top. Was good, little on the salty side yes...didn't make a dent into my fries. Kids had ribs and a burger...standard fare. DH ordered ribeye as he was craving beef. Looked good...we come from Alberta, best beef around. Least they cooked it to requested doness and everything hit the spot as something different from the Disney cruise food / lack of 5 star dining on board.

Lobster roll or crab sandwich - where to eat near wharf?

No worries re the lobster roll, been to Maine/Boston and had them there in the past, much better. As for the crab sand, had one at a resto on Pier 39. That's all we could manage that day, having spent the morning at GGB park/Presidio.

Disney Cruise port stop - dinner eats near Pier 35 w 2 kids under 5yo?

For Dinner, we made it to FCD, reso @ 6pm, but 15min late trying to get across Bay bridge.

Ordered for myself and DH: crab cake, tuna tartar, mussels, calamari, 1/2 doz oysters, and cioppino; shared all of it. For the kids pot roast and plain pasta noodles (DS allergic to dairy and eggs). The kids food came out first. Was good as they were hungry and getting restless from having sat in the car for an hour. The meat was tender, but needed more juice or a gravy.

Our appies came fast. The oysters were deelish. Tuna tartar could have been better, all I could taste was sesame seed oil. Calamari crispy not rubbery. Crab cake aeoli could have been better. Mussels were just right, needed more bread for sauce dipping. Cioppino was nice. All this food looked like a lot but we managed to get it all down with a nice glass of wine.

Diner was hopping after 630pm, so resos was a good idea. We sat near the doorway and it was perfect, as my DS was asking up and we alternated taking him outside. DD ate quietly. No chance for dessert as DS needed to get back to the boat. DH would have liked his dinner more if DS was more reasonable that evening.

Total tab with tip was $170 Would definitely recommend FCD. Service quick,, friendly and close to where we were staying at Pier 35.

Disney Cruise port stop - dinner eats near Pier 35 w 2 kids under 5yo?

Hello, will be stopping over SF on Disney Wonder next week. Before heading back to the boat for the evening, would like to eat at resto rather than more boat food. Any recs that are kid friendly and serves great seafood? and other eats for kiddos because they're not into seafood. Will cab it if not too far. TIA!

Macarons have landed in Edmonton: Duchess Bake Shop

that would be THE awesomest cake/present!

Macarons have landed in Edmonton: Duchess Bake Shop

Macarons are definitely a personal treat or as a gift to impress another foodie; WRT their price and size.

Finally made it there today and the Shop was busy with people enjoying a mid-morning cafe and snack. Garner was busy taking an order and Giselle bringing out more baked goodnesses out into the display cases.

Left with half dozen macaron (lemon, lavender, salt caramel, coconut, chocolate, rose), pain au chocolat, and madeleines (lavender, lemon). FINALLY macarons in Edmonton and they were DELICIOUS!!! Have done a macaron tour of the patisseries in Paris, even Laduree, and these are THE real deal! Chewy, crunchy, and tasty. Fillings were excellent...yet to try the coconut but all were good so far. Only complaint I have is their consistency in size. Some were smaller than others in diameter and height. If they can fix that, its well worth the $1.25 a piece.

The madeleines are perfect. I preferred the lemon over the lavender, which was a little more floral than I liked on my palate. The pain au chocolat, flakey, butter and so good.

Inquired about their cakes, "The Duchess" is the one to order. Chocolatey goodness, made with Valrhona chocolate, 60/70% blend with salt caramel and ganache.

The Bake Shop definitely satisfies the french patisserie craving, especially in Edmonton! Thanks Garner and Giselle....saves us a few trips to Manuel Latruwe's in Calgary.

Cora's opening in Northland Mall (Calgary)

Raved in YUL/YYZ, tried and IMO was just a breakfast! And people wait to eat here....why!?!? Second the lousy service in YEG - its hit and miss, even at some of the more favorable places. Though being new to YEG, people will try or have some nostagia about their other Cora experiences and want to go back.

Butterscotch suckers

See's Candies - gourmet lollipops, butterscotch included. Would ship to Canada...or if you know someone going to U.S. to mule some back.

Shanghai Grill -- Edmonton

If you need to satisfy your XLB fix, this is the ONLY PLACE in Edmonton for them. Though IMO they weren't as good as the ones I've had in Van/Richmond and or the authentic in Shanghai (so worth the airfare).

Their XLB were soupy, the pork meat was tender, and the skins were just right. They needed a little more ginger IMO, but otherwise were very tasty. We didn't order the crab ones as the crab is 99% tinned and unless I see someone shelling fresh crab, not worth spending my money.

We also ordered a noodle dish (ok), stewed ox tail (excellent), and deep fried mantou (ok). The servers were attentive and the food came out in reasonable time for Saturday lunch. They use MSG as we were a little thursty from our lunch-time feast. Aside from that we're coming back for the XLB and to try out some other dishes.

The resto decor could really use some help, Shanghai cuisine with some giddy-up! The wagon wheel light fixtures should really go! Reno budget went to retro fitting the kitchen to cook chinese. My 3 y.o. particularly loved the suspended disco ball in the bar area. :) Go try it out and don't hold the barrels and wagon wheels against them.

Seeking trendy place with delicious food for a group in Edmonton.

Definitely Wildflower Grill...I prefer their menu over Culina family of restos.

San Diego - recs near Sea World/Mission Bay area

Hello, will be in SD for a week with family and staying near Sea World. Any recs that are also family friendly (toddler and baby in tow) near Sea World area. Will eat almost everything, looking for good sushi and seafood. Will drive for good eats too. Thanks.

Edmonton Kid-friendly?

Transcend and Kerstin's are fabulous! You'll also want to try Tree Stone Bakery too, just off Whyte.

Edmonton Kid-friendly?

- Lots of chains in and around WEM. 2 food courts in WEM. Check out the mall's website for what and where to eat.
- Delta's website should outline what the hotel has to offer for dining. Botanica is ok, but do you want to eat there for 2 meals? Dalton's is across the street, meh hotel food. Within a 2 km radius of the hotel, there's Banzai (Japanese take-away like Tokyo Express), Moxie's Grill, Koutouki Taverna (greek), Earl's, Red Robin, Olive Garden (be prepared for ridiculous table wait times, doesn't matter what time of day you go), Red Lobster, White Spot. The Red Robin at Whitemud Crossing is very kid friendly.
- White Spot, Smitty's, Denny's are on your way back home to Calgary. Some independents to try http://www.freshstartbistro.com/ opens at 7am or Barb and Ernie's, think they open at 8am, but call and check.
- Not too many food specialty stores unless you goto ethnic stores, Italian Centre shop off 51st Ave, T&T supermarket @ WEM, Indian food shops along 34th Ave, Korean/Japanese shop on Parsons Road or a new one that opened on 34th Ave. Sunterra in Lendrum area has some specialty food items. For kitchen shops, stay away from Le Gnome @ WEM, worst service ever they don't deserve your money. Goto Bosch Kitchen along 51st Ave, Barb the owner is awesome. Or Call the Kettle Black, 2 locations but the closest one to you is the one in Riverbend Square off Terwilleger drive, exit on Whitemud west.

Good luck

Edmonton - comments re Saigon Cuisine in Riverbend

DG - yes its the one in Riverbend Square. Ordered take-away pho and spring rolls the other night. We needed to find a pho place closer to home rather than making the trek West to La Pagode. The pho was OK. A little pricey for the amount of meat and noodles we got. The soup needed a boost in flavor. Good thing was it wasn't laced with tons MSG. The spring rolls were NOT OK. For $7.25 we got 6 very small rolls with lots of wrapper tightly around barely noticable filling. Never ordreing those again.

Would give this place a go again, since its close to home and establishment was clean. NOTE - website with menu prices is OLD, add minimum of 10% to posted pricing.
