Berlin For the First Time
My wife and I visited Berlin this past July. We stayed in the Mitte - just inside the old Soviet sector off the Gendarmenmarkt. We found a place we really liked just a few blocks from our hotel. Lutter and Wegner. Traditional German food. Founded in 1811 I think. they have several places in Berlin. Go to the spot on the Charlottenstrasse at # 56. Try the Tafelspitz. We liked it so much we ate there three nights in a row. A bit pricey, 105 Euros, 105 Euros and 95 Euros (cheap date the last night)

Berlin For the First Time
Berlin is a BIG city. Some idea of where you will be staying would help in making any recommendation.
FrankFurt/ Helsinki Trip
My personal favorite in Frankfurt is der Schwarze Stern. Right on the Römerplatz! I have been there on two separate trips to Frankfurt. And if I am lucky enough to get a third trip to Frankfurt I will go again.

Princeton gems
I totally agree. Oxymoron. Avoid Princeton for food. I have found the first step of this write up very true.

Any Reviews of Erini in Ewing, NJ?
I live about a half mile from Erini. I went last Ocotober and I thought it was over priced for the food you got. Had Lunch there in February and the lunch prices and portions are smaller. That's all for a local place in a year. Ffigure it out for yourself. Go for lunch if you must and save your wallet some damage.
The Ewing NJ Diner Has Reopened, Review and AMAZING SPAGHETTI SAUCE LIKE TONY'S in AC!!!
I don't suppose you saw the breakfast menu at all. do the Have good old SOS? I miss having it at breakfast if I go out. Went to the American Diner on 130 a while back and while the menu must be 24 pages long no SOS.
Next Week in Trenton
If you have a car LEAVE TOWN. There are no really good places to eat in Trenton any more.
Mexican Meal
Went this past Saturday night, busy and so of course noisy. Service was not acceptable. This is a BYOB. I got out my wine and sat it on the table. Menus were brought – but no wine glasses. The waitress came back and I asked for glasses – which she brought. However the wine was still unopened. Her next visit I asked to have the wine opened - she brought a cork screw and left it on the table. I opened my own wine since it was obvious no staff person was going to do it. Food was decent – but not good enough to overcome horrible wait staff service. Went to Cinco De Mayo a while back, not as fancy, but the food and service were better. Also cheaper
Pizza Near Pennington/Ewing
Try Villa Rosa in Ewing. It is on Scotch Road. It is set up three ways, part pizza take out, part family dining and the other side is set up as a BYOB. The menu of course has all the pizza type cheese staek stuff you might want but they also have a large pasta and other Italian food menu.

Princeton lunch?
I would also give a vote for Tre Piani. A bit expensive, but worth the price. Get a table upstairs. It is much quieter than the bistro settting down stairs. They have a new wine bar next door.
General rule of thumb for me is avoid any place in Princeton. Over-hyped, over-priced and over impressed with themselves.
First time I went to the Ferry House (YEARS AGO) they asked me for my wine and then left me in the lobby for several minutes. My wife and I were finally shown to our table and I was left with this feeling that after inspecting my wine they had decided what I would likely spend and then gave me a table in accordance with that guess. Fits the over, over, over to me.
My favorite Princeton reviews can be found here.

Sunny Garden in Princeton
Checking my food diary I find I went to Elements of Asia once back in 2006 and found it really uninspiring. Never went back.
I always thought Sunny Garden was run of the mill. Better than take out, but nothing special.
I used to like the dim sum lunches on Saturdays at Kings Castle in Princeton years ago. That I miss!
Good eating in Frankfurt?
Well, it has not got any stars, but it is right on the Romer Platz and the food is good solid German. The location is the best part. Dine outdoors if at all possible. I eat here at least once each time I am in Frankfurt.

Chow-worthy places near Princeton, NJ?
Za is a good BYOB if you are willing to venture that far from Princeton.
Tell us where you end up going and how it was.
Chow-worthy places near Princeton, NJ?
Yeah. I vote for Tre Piani. Ate at Acacia in Feb - very under-impressed. Best advice - avoid anything in downtown Princeton. Most are over-hyped and over-priced.
New discoveries in Berlin?
Just got back from 23 days in eastern Germany last week. While in Berlin we ate - three nights in a row - at Lutter and Wegner on the Charlottenstrasse. Traditional German and a bit expensive. Our three meals were 110, 110 and 95 Euros. But we loved the food. There are several locations in Berlin, but the Charlottenstrasse location, which was two blocks up the street from our hotel, seems to be the flagshop spot.
Expensive, but good.

Budapest, Prague, Vienna Recs?
Try the Gösser Bierklinik for Tafelspitz in Vienna. The wife and I ate there and had Tafelspitz - a favorite of Emporer Fraz- Josef and we loved it. We have been eating it for years now.
I give it two big thumbs up. Here's the web page.

And I have a question. How come there is no Board for Germany/Austria?
We just get dumped into International with Yemen and Croatia and Sweden. Don't seem right.
Must-have dishes at Washington Inn in Cape May
This is my entry in my dining diary for the Washington Inn. As you may guess I would never go back. Ate here November 2007.
Washington Inn – Cape May - The food here can best be described as greasy. The crab cake was greasy. My main course Chicken Milanese was greasy. I barely ate any. Plus the service was so rapid fire you had the feeling they couldn’t get you out the door fast enough. We barely had our appetizer dishes removed before our entrees were delivered. They have the Tag Team service that I hate so much. One person takes the order, one delivers the apps, anoterh one delivers entree, another the wine. No continuity of service and no one who makes sure your meal is going well. And lastly, they served the wrong wine. It was the right vineyard, right vintage, but is was a plain QmP, not a Kabinett as listed on the wine menu. That’s my fault for not noticing when it was presented, but it still pisses me off. Overall a very unsatisfactory meal for a hefty price.
gennaro's italian in spotswood nj
If it's the place I'm thinking of - on 206 just north of Princeton - You will likely take up the whole place with 40 people. They don't have much on the menu that I like - I'm a PITA - but the food is good. I would say go for it.
Looking for a good lunch in Princeton
Ferry House may be good for lunch. I have looked at the lunch menu and I like it better than dinner. I have only one dining experience at FH several years ago. It's a BYOB. We entered the lobby and were greeted and asked for our wine. The hostess disappeared for several minutes and then reappears sans wine, where upon we were escorted to our table. I have ALWAYS felt that our wine was being evaluated to decide upon what kind of table to give us. I found it highly insulting and have never gone back. I would avoid Mediterra, it is nosy and the food is not all that good. I once got Osso Bucco (the last time I ever went) and I said to the waiter “This is not like any cut of Osso Bucco I have ever had” and he said “They don’t always deliver what I would think is right either.” AVOID Laheire's unless you are collecting Social Security. Then you will fit right in. Only old P-ton blue bloods are all that eat there – IMHO.
I give my vote to Tre Piani. But they must eat upstairs – not in the bar downstairs. It is very elegant upstairs.
Teresa’s is a BYOB is good for pub grub Italian – pizzas and pasts – not much else.
They might be better off meeting in New Brunswick, which has many excellent restaurants. Frog and Peach being the first to come to mind.
Pizzicato in Marlton, NJ
I have eaten at the Pizzicato in Philly, but not in Jersey. The Philly branch is pretty good. Down around 2nd or 3rd and Market. I like the crab cake app - it has a really good orangey citrus dipping sauce.
Sal DeForte's, ex-Chambersburg, now Ewing
I would rather drive up to Lambertville or New Hope then go back! They have plenty of crowds at Mickey D's - Doesn't mean it's good food or service. I feel the same way here.
Dresden
Since there is no Germany board I am asking here. Anyone have any restaurant reccomendations for Dresden?
How come there is no board for Germany?
Well, I'm vacation in Germany again for the fourth time in the last 10 years and I'd sure like to hear form other people about possible places to eat. I couldn't care less about Russia, Turkey, Africa, or Greated Asia.
How come there is no board for Germany?
Yeah, I agree. All three in one would be good.
How come there is no board for Germany?
That's one suck A$$ policy decision. What a laugh - one post in Russia but no board for Germany/Austria /Switzerland.
Tastebuds, New Hope: Been There Recently?
Went in March this year. Here is what I wrote in my restaurant diary:
Tastebuds – New Hope – No idea how they stay open. Eight customers for the whole night. Two, two and four. I guess another New Hope place that lives off the tourist trade.
FYI it was a Wednesday night. I live not even 15 minutes from New Hope, we eat in New Hope/Lambertville often - weeknights to avoid the tourists - and I have no desire to go back. As I recall I had the Baby Greens, Crystalized Mustard, Citrus Vinaigrette and I don't see what I had for entree - I think it was a not so special Special. Decor is gutted row house with exposed everything.

Since you asked, this is the entry from my restaurant diary:
********************************
Oct 27 Sal De Forte’s – Ewing – The Trenton legend opened in Ewing last February as a BYOB. Proof that Trenton is going to the dogs. And Sal Defortes is not all that good. Just trading on its name. Noisy and packed tight. Even for a Saturday night it was much too busy and noisy when we went at 5:30. It would seem everyone comes early to beat the rush. Or, perhaps they think this is good. I don’t. I had the Osso Bucco special that was just OK. For a special it was un-impressive. Villa Rosa is just as good. Better. And Hector is a better waiter and the price is less. Our wait staff here dropped off the plates and picked them up later. No real “service.”
****************************
I am an Osso Bucco aficionado. I have had good and I have had bad. This was definitely not that good. Not bad, but not good. Nothing to go back for as it was a not very "Special" Special. But the real clincher was the service. TOTALLY inattentive. A good waiter/waitress keeps an eye on the table. Sees your water glass is near empty, you are running low on bread, or you have finished you app/entree. The staff here did none of those. The service was really the worst aspect, so bad I have never gone back. To a certain degree I am willing to forgive food I don't like. Perhaps what I thought I was getting and what the Chef was cooking did not match, perhaps I just ordered something that turned out that I did not like. That's my fault.
Shoddy service is the restaurant's fault. And it was bad.
How come there is no board for Germany?
How come there is no board for Germany? It's not as if no one travels there.

Lack of comments would seem to re-inforce my opinion on this place.
