Wings - Rank 'Em
If you're into beer, Capone's is the obvious call. Unrivaled tap list. They had a big beer event yesterday, so they might have some realy good stuff left over.
PJ's has pretty good wings, nothing special. Phil's is OK on wings, but its not a great place for football watching (not enough TVs).
Drafting Room is closed, so you can take that one off your list.
Have you considered the Boathouse in Conshohocken? It usually has a good tap list, and the wings are my personal favorite in the area. It's also right up the road from Bridgeport.
Mad Elf
Family Beverage on Welsh Rd. just past 202 in North Wales had a lot of it last time i was there. They have a pretty good mico selection in general, and the prices aren't bad (for PA).
Very exciting - lots of new bar and restaurant openings in MontCo
Do you know what type of place the new Broad Axe is going to be? I know originally it was supposed to be a belgian beer bar but that fell through.
Unique Wineries in Napa
Pina has the best napa cabs i've tasted, and their Howell Mountain Cab is mind blowing. The winery is little more than a garage, but it is definitely worth a visit.
It is near the intersection of Oakville Cross Rd. & Silverado trail, right up the road from Miner.
Outer Main Line sushi?
I've heard that place is really good. Unfortunately we are going to be up closer to Malvern near the turnpike. Teikoku would be about a 20 minute drive in the opposite direction.
I definitely want to check that place out sometime though. Thanks for the suggestion.
Outer Main Line sushi?
I am going to be in the wayne/malvern area tonight and i am looking to find some good sushi. Anybody have any recs? Thanks.
Rec's for Napa/Sonoma Winery Visits ?
I was just out there last month and went to about 20 wineries. All were great, but 4 smaller ones really jumped out (sorry but they all make great cabs):
1. Pina - extremely small winery (less than 1300 cases total production) that specializes in cabs. Their cabs are the best i've ever tasted. The winery isn't much for scenery (its basically a garage) but it is the one place my wife and i most highly recommend to our friends. Located on Silverado trail.
2. Vine Cliff - beautiful winey and caves. Known for great chardonnay, but their reds were also very good. Right up the road from Pina.
3. Pride - beautiful winery with great merlot, as well as cab. I'm not a merlot drinker, but i was presently surprised by pride's.
4. Barnett - this one is right up the hill from Pride. The winery itself isn't much to see, but they have a terrace deck at the top of Spring Mountain with great views. Also, their Rattlesnake Cab is excellent, but their pinot was also very good.
Hope you have a good time!
La Cava in Ambler
I was also there recently and there were only two other dining groups. I think La Cava is having some trouble because of the other Mexican options in the area, especially Agave right down the street. That being said, La Cava is the best Mexican I have had outside of the city and i hope others give it a try. If you like seafood entrees, this is the place to go. The whole fish special is great.
Tonight, near the Electric Factory
I am going to tomorrow night's show. Beforehand we are going to grab dinner at Kisso on 4th & Race. Very good Sushi and rarely a crowd, especially as early as you're planning on eating.
Tourists in Lisboa, Seville, Cordoba, Toledo, Madrid
Lisbon has a lot of so-so food (especially in the center of town), but my wife and I were referred by a local sommelier to a small family owned restaurant called A Coutouda, at Rua de Bempostinha, 18. It's a short a cab ride away from the center area, but it is well worth the trip. The food is Spanish with Northern African influences. They also make the best curry i've ever tasted. We visited 6 European cities on our honeymoon and ate at a lot of great restaurants, but we still talk about this place. The price was extremely reasonable.
Your best bet in Sevilla is to sample local tapas bars. They are all very good and surprisingly consistent.
Cordoba is tough. We didn't much like the city or the food. I would actually recommend skipping it and going to Grenada.
Madrid has the oldest known restaurant in the world, it's called Botin. The place is packed with tourists, but the food was surprisingly excellent. It is also conveniently located near the Plaza Mayor. It's not cheap, but it's worth it.
Hope this helps!
Need to find a BYO in Conshohocken area that is not Blackfish
There actually a couple decent BYOs in Conshy. Try the Spring Mill Cafe. It's French cuisine in a 200 year old house. The atmosphere is really homey and the food is excellent. There is also the Fayette Street Grille. The food is good, but it's definitely lacking in atmosphere.
Mothers' Day brunch
Does anybody know of a good spot in Montgomery County (Conshy-Ambler-B. Bell area) or Manayunk for a nice Mothers' Day brunch? I would especially like a place with outdoor seating.
Thanks!
