I work at Will-O and the chefs there have specials every weekend that are really good!!

Source for Langoustines?

I've gotten them at Trader Joe's a few times.

Mrs. Cubbison's Herb Seasoned Cube Stuffing Mix vs Kellogg's Stuffing Mix

Any suggestion on searching for Kellog's directions? I am not having any luck! TIA

Trader Joe's Yea/Nay thread - 4th Quarter 2010 [OLD]

Sorry to hear about the Coq Au Vin..last trip I stocked up a bit and that was a new purchase I haven't tried and was curious-esp since that is something I have never had. Sounds like maybe at least the sauce will give me a clue on the taste..then to commit to making it.

Mail order cupcakes?

I thought I could find a place for cupcake of the month. In searching I was surprised there was not that many options. Anyone have a place that have used that was good, even if it isn't the of the month clubs. It will be a gift for my future daughter in law that loves cupcakes.. Thanks!

whole belly clams-Montgomery county?

Will be down in the Rockville,Gaithersburg area in a week and hoping to buy some whole clams for frying later.Ideally shucked and frozen so I could have on hand later to make fried clams at home.
I think the clams that would work for frying have various names.
Thanks for any help. I won't have time to travel from the 2 city's listed.

Truly Magic Food Moments. Have any?

I was up in Maine for reunion & wedding and one night out got a seafood platter with haddock, fried whole belly clams, scallops and shrimp. OH MY OH MY! I am now craving the clams in particular. Living in a small town in western Md. there aren't any seafood options.
I may have to mail order for Christmas gift to myself to make the clams at home.
It was 2 months ago-but still day dreaming about it.

What do you make that is SOOO easy yet you impress yourself every time you make it?

I'd say yes, but would cook for a shorter time. I think cutting the potatoes small and toss with some olive oil to start them. (although I removed some of the chicken fat from the 4 thighs I had). I don't think the breasts will give off as much fat and would dry out with long cooking time. Darn if it wasn't good and a use for the broiler pan I haven't used till now. (I didn't have the abodo seasoning-but looked it up and sprinkled those spices on the thighs)

FreeWally-I made this last night. So easy-so good! Thanks!

2.5 lb fully trimmed kosher brisket-ideas?

Can I cook long and low to make it tender? I have worked with the full briskets with fat, but did that with dry rub and low on grill. I'm not wanting to do pastrami out of it. I am guessing sear it off and add some liquid and cook till tender? A little nervous with the lack of any fat on it.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Mini Cupcakes From A Cake Mix - In Or Our Of Paper Liners

I would use the paper liners and spray them with Pam to make sure they don't stick. I would keep them in the paper liners. It has been awhile since I have done the mini cup cakes-but I think your timing sounds right on baking. You will know from looking at them and testing while baking, so no need to worry-they will be fine!!

Garage Sale Goodies

Bake sugar cookies on a lolly pop stick. And can just use sand bags to cover. I used to send them to school for gatherings and they were always a hit with kids! Rice krispie treats-always a hit (those too can be put on a stick...)

Jfood Short Rib Recipe

Thanks again to Jfood for the recipe. My new favorite. Happy Mothers day to all! Funny-I knew awhile back this would be the mothers day dinner. A beautifully rich dinner. Can't wait-I know how good it is. I do have to be careful not to make it so often and let it be a treat.

What's the farthest from home you'll travel for groceries?

I live in a small town. The only choices are Super Walmart and small local grocery store.
Travel once a month about 1 1/2 hr for sams club and a couple name grocery stores. A few times a year travel 3 hrs to Rockville (DC suburb) under pretense to see family-but it's all about food shopping and carry out foods that travel well. Way too much pleasure after hitting Trader Joes, big grocery stores and Amish market and some favorite carry outs. A few coolers and ice blocks-works great!

Jfood Short Rib Recipe

I made it this weekend! And followed the recipe to the letter (which I tend not to as a rule) other than I had bone in. My gosh was it good!! Even my biggest critic (my 17 year old) -loved it. Thanks Jfood for posting it. I was mistaken when I thought I didn't like short ribs!

So what's the average Chowhound's age?

54. Chowhound is making feel younger in as much as it reminds me how little I know about foods and cooking. Sam-your posts in particular have me on google to find out what dishes are!! Love food and cooking-but so much to learn.

Baby Artichokes-any & all advice!

I have never cooked or prepared any artichokes, but couldn't resist the box of them. Wanting to try steam with dips, stuffed, grilled and maybe fried. And am not sure-but with the baby ones is it not an issue with the choke for any of the ways to prepare? Thanks for any help!

Any chance you would post the almond cake recipe here???

Testing if oil is hot enough

Yes-it does work! Much better then the drop of water. And you can tell with how fast bubbles that is is close or really hot & ready. So simple-but really is my way of choice now.

Record Breaking Cold- What's The Best Food?

I am making a double batch of paprika chicken breasts -adding some onions. Will have that with mash pot and corn frozen from the summer. Leftovers to make chicken soup for tomorrow. (cold here in the mountains of western MD) Also fighting the cold/flu -so anxious for the soup!

Dining and food shopping at Deep Creek Lake?

Thanks-will have to check the mexican place out-thought it had closed down already-but not sure on that. WE are on same wave length on foods-I crave the chicken salad from get -n-go! And Cornish for lunch and that warm chicken salad in bread bowl-deadly!! Thought about relaying Arrowhead cinnamon rolls!
We are into brutal temps and some snow here-guess you aren't missing that!!

Dining and food shopping at Deep Creek Lake?

Great run down ktmoomau! I could not have said and listed better and I live here in Oakland!
Here's the website for Brenda's www.brendaspizzeria.com which has her menu. I am very partial to her place. From her pizza to appetizers to entrees-all good!
The BBQ place is Archies-Ribs are esp good-very smokey and wings are also good. (Not so excited about their brisket)
And I agree with well worth it to find Sugar And Spice on Sat am.
If you end up at Englanders-may want to try a local favorite of buckwheat pancakes!
ANd make sure you pack warm clothes-enjoy!

Home Made Christmas Gifts

Been extra sentimental for family that has passed away. In that vain, I have made my grandmom's lemon cookies, my mom's checkerboard cookies and my mother in law's chex mix. My homemade gifts to myself. For others I make homemade chocs, spice nuts, a granola and tac. Did have fun this year making chocolate houses and gave those out with a bag of candies and frosting for kids to decorate. Too much fun to make and hopes all the kids have fun with them..

Is it okay to plot the demise of my smooth top range?

Please forgive my dumb question (I have been fighting with my smooth top!! and bought the barkeepers -but not working so wonderful) -where are you buying the scraper? I live in small town and have not seen that at Walmart...and I remain a tad nervous about scratching it. Thanks-

The Mighty MO is back!

I remember them as a double decker hamburger-the secret sauce being tomato base with a lot of relish. Yum. Although I worked for Hot Shops Jr (many years ago) and loved their Royal burger-double decker, but thinner rolls and secret sauce more like half mayo-half ketchup, maybe a little sugar and little relish mixed in. Would love to have one of each and see how memory goes for the taste of them!
