Palm city/Stuart/Jensen beach advice

I don't think any of the waterfront spots are that great. King Neptune and Gettin Crabby are both in Port Salerno and casual and very good for fresh seafood.

Looking for great Italian food 20 miles of Port St lucie

I have always liked Renato's in Sewell's Point. I was disappointed in Mario's, and Luna as well. There is a new place where Gusto used to be, LouRonzo's. it may be the same owners with a new name and remodel. I liked Gusto. I'll try it next time.

Do you have a American Range that works well with liquid propane?

like you, I would expect the regulator to be the source of any problems. Changing out regulators is a fairly inexpensive undertaking.

What's the best way to reheat coffee?

Use a small, unlined copper sauce pan on a preheated gas grill (preferably Weber) set on medium with the lid closed for 4 minutes. It's absolutely perfect every time.

Olive bar olives - detergent taste!?!

For what it's worth, it seems virtually all Florida Grocery Chains are carrying the same brand of olives at their olive bars. Pubes, WD, TFM, and they taste like crap. I used to go 45 minutes out of my way to buy olives at the TFM olive bar about 8 years ago, and then they switched to this crap they are putting out now. Whoe Foods seems to be palatable.

I recently started buying Mezzetta brand Castelvetrano olives (the bright green ones) in a jar. They are pretty good, but $5.00 for a bottle has me thinking of getting in the olive business.

Is it ok to eat it?

How does a 6 year old thread like this get resurrected? And aren't all of the replies predictable?

Port St. Lucie and West Palm Beach

Nothing that interesting in PSL. It's a short drive to Jensen Beach or Stuart though, and there are plenty of good options.

Has anyone purchased an affordable electric stove recently?

Having cooked exclusively on electric for far longer than I like, I find that while the coils are unsightly, I prefer them to the glass top.

I suggest a backup plan. It may be inedible.

I would eat it. You have to cook it well done anyway, that will kill anything.

Venison Steak go-together

You will probably overcook them if you dust them with flour. They only need about 40 seconds per side

Input on venison dish please!

I have cooked alot of venison in my days. I think either sauce would be fine, but put it on the side so you can try the venison straight up.

I am hesitant about the sous vide method. I would skip the brine also.

After years of trying different methods, I finally settled on searing medallions in an iron skillet in clarified butter after holding them in the freezer for 10 minutes. About 35-45 seconds on each side. I cut the medallions about 3/8 to 1/2 inch. You say you are cooking tenderloins as opposed to the loin (which hunters typically call backstrap). Sometimes the tenderloins are too small for medallions, so I would pound them flat and cook the same way.

Need update on BBQ stands and restaurants: central FL

I tried First Choice in Plant City yesterday. It's never a good sign when you pull up to the BBQ joint at noon on Saturday and you can't smell any smoke. The have a nice pit out back and some wood laying around, but nothing was going, and it looked like nothing had been going for awhile. It's a nice enough looking place, fairly traditional in appearance for BBQ places, which probably explains the good reviews it gets. (The mens bathroom was very clean) The pork dinner includes 2 sides. I always order the same thing, if available- slaw and beans. The slaw was very good, and generous. That was the highlight of the meal. The beans tasted more like pumpkin pie than baked beans, and the consistency was too runny, which means they weren't baked, just heated in a pot. The meat was the biggest disappointment. I knew when the guy grabbed a handful and put it on the chopping block that things were going downhill. If the pork is properly cooked, it doesn't need to be chopped. No smoke flavor at all. The sauce was sort of a midwestern style, too sweet for me, but lots of people like that. So the scores are: Appearance: A; Slaw: A; Beans: D; Meat: D; Sauce:B-

Christmas Dinner in Tampa

Capital Grill is doing a Thanksgiving dinner this year. You could check to see if they may do the same for Christmas. I would expect them to do it well

Brunswick Stew

I am from South GA but went to UGA. The BBQ in NE GA leaves much to be desired. It is more of a NC style, and that has zero appeal to me.

Your stew looks great. I just made some last week, and I left the peas out as well. I did use the limas.

cutting avocados??

The foodsaver works well. But if you dont have one, wrap saran wrap over the left over half, then put the pit back in the hole on top of the wrap. Smooth out the surface and put in a covered container

Not really. There are a few PSL threads and if you review them, you'll see there's not much of interest.

Ft Pierce, Port St Lucie area local restaurants?

Advise. Go to Jensen Beach or Stuart.

I have lived in the area for 14 years. I avoid Ft. Pierce like the plague.

I find that most people choose their BBQ by the way the building looks. Dale's is a classic BBQ building with mediocre BBQ

Ft Pierce, Port St Lucie area local restaurants?

I ate lunch at the Tiki Bar the other day. The food was very good, but 2 small to medium fish tacos with a side of beans and rice and iced tea was $17.50 before tip.

Dale's BBQ is mediocre at best.

Whatever you do, just stay to the east side of US-1. Ft. Pierce is a pretty rough place overall

Tampa Foodies - where are they?

They have had the St Augustine and Sarasota locations for decades. I see they now have one in Clearwater, a small cafe at Tampa Riverwalk, and a spot in the Tampa Airport terminal.

When they start franchising locations, they'll be a chain. Right now, they're not much different than they have been for a long time.

I have been to the Original, Sarasota and St Augustine locations. I was not thrilled with St Augustine, but I liked Sarasota.

Visting Tampa from NYC. Recommendation please (researched)!

For sausages I would look at Dunderbak's I don't care for Land and Sea for anything. If you're going all the way to Mid Peninsula, you could stop by Mazzaro's. For steaks, I am not too impressed with anywhere around here. They all seem to be hit or miss. May as well just go to Pube's. Whole Foods has good meat often, and they have really good sausages.

As far as Pane Rustica's Shut Up selection, the one time I got it, it was a lamb chop that was completely unseasoned and tougher than a flip flop. Pane's is good, but it ain't all that.

Eye round steaks

In my experience, asking "someone in the meat dept." yields about the same result as asking the plumber or the postman. If you want advice on cutting up a dead carcass, ask a butcher. If you want advice on cooking, ask a cook.

As proof, take note that it was the meat dept who cut the eye of round into steaks.
