Clementine's in century city always has classic tuna, and sometimes has a melt.
Very tasty

dinner/drinks near Beverly Hills/Century City

Nic's in Beverly Hills has a great happy hour with food specials. Their dinner menu is pretty good too. Good atmosphere.

New Year's Eve?

I know it's a bit early to start planning, but does anyone know of any restaurants or places that are planning a great food-focused event for New Year's Eve? Not really into the club scene, so looking for somewhere to celebrate with some nice food and wine.

My Lou Review

I am also a fan of Lou - check out my blog link below for some pics of their yummy food. We got some of the same things as omakase

Mushroom Pizza

Stone Fire Pizza in West Hollywood does a nice mushroom pizza with truffle oil. Delicious.
They also have a fantastic happy hour every day until 7pm - 1/2 off all pizzas and drink specials.

Going to Orris tonight - What should I order?

Thank you all so much for the recommendations.
I went last night and had a fabulous time!

Here’s what the 3 of us ordered:
1. An exotic mushroom salad (can't remember the name of the rare, in-season mushroom), which was one of their daily specials – the mushrooms were very woodsy and interesting, which went well with the arugula and frisee

2.Black Cod with Basil – fantastic. Usually I prefer Miso Black Cod, but this was just as good.

3.Smoked Salmon Croquettes – Small portion but very good

4.Lamb Carpaccio – nice combination of flavors. Would have preferred a touch of acidity or sharpness to compliment the rich lamb and cheese, but it was still very tasty

5.Ravioli with Shrimp Mousse – the highlight of the night. I could have eaten a whole entrée-sized portion of it. I’m glad this is a standard on their menu and not a special so I can get it next time

6.Squash Blossoms with shrimp mousse – We made the mistake of ordering this after the ravioli, which had such strong flavors. The delicate flavors of this dish were lost on us – but I’m sure it would have been more enjoyable if ordered before the ravioli

7.Chocolate soufflé cake – the cinnamon was a nice touch. Not particularly memorable, but still very good. It’s hard to make chocolate soufflé cakes stand out since they are so common, but they did a good job.

I plan on going back and trying the other dishes we couldn’t squeeze it. Thanks again for the recs!

Going to Orris tonight - What should I order?

Thanks so much for everyone's recommendations!
Am I totally screwed if 3 of us go at 7:30? How long will we be waiting?

Thanks!

Going to Orris tonight - What should I order?

I've heard so much about this place from all you fellow Chowhounders so I'm finally checking it out tonight.

Best/Worst dishes?

Thanks!!

Any food events/wine dinners/special prix fixe menus going on this weekend?

Fantastc site - thank you!

Any food events/wine dinners/special prix fixe menus going on this weekend?

Looking for something different to do this weekend.
Any suggestions?

LA Chowhound in SF for one night...

Where on earth should I go for dinner on a Saturday night?

Requirements:

In the city, preferably not too far from Union Square
Fantastic food (Italian, French, American, fusion - Not traditional chinese or japanese)
Expensive is fine, although maybe not Gary Danko expensive
Great atmosphere - hip and trendy is fine, doesn't need to be overly quiet and romantic
Definitely a special occasion place - I'm only there for one night so I want to splurge!

Thanks in advance to my fellow Chowhounds!

Oasis Grille - Pleasanton

Has anyone been? Menu looks really interesting (for downtown Pleasanton at least)

Frozen entrees in the LA area

Try Dream Dinners - I've never done it but you prepare the meals yourself using fresh ingredients and then freeze them. A nice compromise

Panzanella Ristorante tonight - Suggestions?

Not much about this place on the boards...any recommendations?

Thank you!

violet on pico?

Yes, it's still going on.
They choose which items will be $7. The rest of the menu is avail as well. They also have 2 glasses of featured wine for $7

They also have a nice Sunday dinner 3-course prix fix menu - it's $25 and for an extra $10 you get an endless glass of wine (they select the wine). The only problem is that the prix fix changes every week (there are choices for each course) and you won't know until you get there what it is unless you call. The regular menu isn't offered on Sunday so if you don't like the options you're screwed. Although when I went they still had the Mac and Cheese avail as a separate starter just in case...and it really is to die for!

Being dragged to Pink Taco - anything edible?

I’ve only heard negative things about it, but I’m being forced to go – has anyone had anything decent? What about their appetizers?

Back on my diet. grrrr. HEALTHY RESTAURANTS?

Century City farmer's market

Ok, here goes. I went down there today with a pen and paper in hand (I must have looked quite silly) and made a note of all the different food options. Of course I couldn’t try them all, but there were some great choices and a nice variety of ethnic foods.

Thai-Mex BBQ - (yes, you read that right). Not quite sure what they are going for, because it wasn’t very Thai or Mex. I got the grilled chicken plate, which was actually quite tasty. It was served with a yummy sweet and spicy sauce, and your choice of rice, salad, or chow mien (again, not very thai-mex).

Hawaiian Chicken – www.hawaiianchicken.com – rotisserie chicken and the fixings. Smelled great.

Eastern Grill – had only a few choices such as salmon with red curry, chicken skewers and crepes?

Korean BBQ place with your standard stuff

Greek – this place had the longest line of them all, so either it’s really good or service is really slow

Hotdog/sausage place, with bacon wrapped dogs as well. I saw a lot of people eating them.

2 other Mexican places with tacos, burritos, and quesadillas

Of course, they have all the other packaged food vendors too – Hummus/pita/falafel, Kettle Corn, pastries, baked goods, dried fruits and nuts, etc.

Near the Kettle Corn there is a pita bread place that sells falafel plates and “African Samosas” in chicken, beef, or spinach. I tried a chicken one and it had a nice curry spice to it. Next week I’m going to try the other two ($1 ea)

Century City farmer's market

The farmer's market is right outside my window :) It's MUCH bigger then the old one used to be. They have a ton of food places, but I haven't checked them out yet. I will give you a full report today when I head down there during lunch.

Tracy S - It's on Thursday, I think from 11:30am - 3pm. It's kind of tricky to find, but it's just off of Santa Monica Blvd near Avenue of the Stars. You would want to park in the Westfield Shopping Center and head east and walk across the pedestrian bridge near See’s Candy and Brooks Brothers

Sunday Dinner Deals?

Has anyone been? The burger sounds great, but doesn't give much info (price, etc)
Thanks!

Going to Pizzeria Mozza for first time! Any recommendations and/or places for dessert?

It's nothing like NY pizza, it's gourmet italian pizza. So if you're not expecting NY style then you will have a good experience. If you like truffle oil, the bianco is great. The sausage and mushroom ones are tasty as well. I'm a big white pizza pan, so I can't give any recommendations for the tomato-based ones. The wine is reasonably priced as well. ENJOY!

Mid-range weekend brunch in LA or SFV?

Duke's in Malibu is great if you want atmosphere, although they get crowded

Sunday Dinner Deals?

Need help finding a place to have dinner on a Sunday night, preferably a place that has a special deal - eg, prix fix, no corkage fees, etc.

I know of Lucque's Sunday dinner and Dominick's.

Any other recommendations?

Cafe Marly on Melrose - Dinner tonight

There hasn't been much discussion about this place on the boards.
Has anyone been recently and have some recommendations?
Thanks!

pizza and beer

I love BJ's pizza! Of course, it's only for those who like thick crust, but I think it's mighty tasty. As for their beer, their Jeremiah Red is awesome. And they have the beer sampler. Finish it all with a yummy pizookie and you're set

In search of a great bowl of soup....(this is a challenge!)

Clementine's has pretty good soups, and they also sell refrigerated versions to take home

Craft - Lunch menu?

I heard it just opened for lunch but the menu isn't online.
Anyone know what the menu is like?
Thanks!

Dodgers Food - Any healthy choices??

On the lodge (orange) level near isle 101 or so, there is a regular dodger dog stand - to the right of it there is a cart that sells all sorts of healthy stuff - turkey and grilled veggie wraps, salads, and a hummas plate with veggies.

Kobe Beef Burger?

Stonehill Tavern has one, and I also heard that Lucky Devils is good.

The absolute best Kobe burger I've ever had is at Martini House in Napa, CA - if you're ever up there - I drove 4 hours roundtrip once just to have it..

Happy Hours on the Westside with Free/Cheap food?

Awesome suggestions, thank you!
I may have to plan a Happy Hour-crawl to hit them all up!
