Barcelona - are my two favourite places still great ?

Bar Mut is still great--see if they'll tell you about their 'secret' club around the corner, Club Mutis.
Check out Joel at www.papaserra.com for a half day cooking class.
Quimet e Quimet, 12-4, is fun for a Mon since the fish market is closed + buy some of their balsamic glaze.
La Cova Fumado, 9-3:30, 6-8:30, calle Baluard 56, Barceloneta, fried artichokes,Gambians, clams, calamari alla Planca
El Xiringo,also Barceloneta
ENJOY!

Barcelona - are my two favourite places still great ?

You should do a tapas trek on Merce:
Bar Celta, calle de la Merce 16 for pulpo-octopus
Bar la Plata, c/Merce 28, sardines, peccadillos (only 4 menu items)
La Socarrena, Merce 21, queso de Cabrales
Take Princessa to Via Laietana to Merce
Still, Paco Meralgo reigns for fried baby squid (txipirones frites)
Tomato bread + patata bravos--best aioli!!! Close to La Pedrera if you want to combine the two. I still crave their patata bravos!

Barcelona - are my two favourite places still great ?

Dined twice at Paco Meralgo last week as I had saved our last trip day for a repeat of our favorite. Paco won! Best tomato bread, patatas bravos + fried baby squid in town!
Best splurge meal was Cinc Sentis, foodie heaven. Foie gras app that's divinely memorable. Had the 7 course offering + it was flawless!
If you're there the first weekend of the month, don't miss the Mercat del Art de la Planca de Sant Joseph Oroil--great art by local artists. The adjacent Fira Artesana, food market, has fab honey, cheese + nuts. Have lunch at Tallers de Tapas right there + enjoy.
Fav shop was Gispert, calle Sombrers 23, since 1851, almonds from their 1851 roaster, saffron, choc, spices.
Return trips were also made to Patisseria Hofman, Flassaders 44, framboise, almond croissants to die for.
Gorgeous Hotel Espana, Sant Paul 9-11 has tours M-F at 12:15 + 4:30; renovated 1903 by Montaner
Classictic.com for concert tickets, saw Verdi's Nabucco at the Palau de la Musica Catalunya...fabulous.
Cool little oil/vinegar shop, Vom Fass, Cigne 14, has super gift packs. Owners Carlos + Phillip are terrific!!
A day trip to Monserrat was fantastic, awe-inspiring views.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Barcelona!!!

Pavo Meralgo has me dreaming of Barcelona's best tomato bread + patatas bravos + fried baby squid--go, go, go, everything on their menu is superb. We saved day 7 for our favorite restaurant repeat + Paco Meralgo it was.
Best splurge meal was Cinc Sentis, their 7 course menu exquisite....foie gras that's orgasmic. Flawless and congenial service. It was always be my 2nd day of trip lunch upon return.
If you're there the first weekend of the month, do go to the Mercat del Art de la Placa de Sant Joseph Oriol and browse the numerous artists' work after lunching at Taller de Tapas, you'll be taking one home.
I love Gispert, calle Sombrers 23, since 1851, for almonds, saffron, spices, wonderful shop.
Patisserie Hofman, Flassaders 44, has heavenly croissants, raspberry, almond...he teaches pastry to chefs...best bakery.
Check classictic.com -- we went to Verdi's Nabucco at the Palau de le Musica Catalunya. Fabulous evening.
The rooftop of La Pedrera is mesmerizing, I love Gaudi.
A day trip to Monserrat was gorgeous and so easy to navigate.
Just home from a lovely week in Barcelona and will definitely
be returning.

Non touristy in central Paris. Impossible?

Tell Daniel I once flambeed my menu at Spiaggia in his former town, Chicago. People across held their plastic-coated epistles high, I went low, and the candle went "ignite".

Le Comptoir du relais- Paris

MEDIOCRE!! I'll never go back. There are so many fabulous restaurants in Paris; do not waste your time on this one.
Has Daniel Rose's new SPRING opened yet? Watch for it.
I adored Perraudin & dream of their tiny cheese raviolis in frommage blanc sauce. It is the perfect Paris Bistro and the 2 brothers that own it, charming.

Rome - Need Suggestions for 4 Dinners

On your next visit to Enoteca Corsi, ask for Claudia, one of the daughters of the owners. We know the entire family by now & have been to dinner w/Claudia & her bf Emiliano. Claudia will let you order 1/2 entrees for lunch so you may try 2. I love the Paiellas, great family.
I'm glad to hear you're still enjoying Rome and that your parents are still traveling w/you. Hope your Mom is doing great! Best Wishes!! Ciao!!

Le Perraudin, 157 rue Saint Jacques, 5th, www.restaurant-perraudin.com was FABULOUS! BEST pasta entree (appetiz.) of tiny cheese ravilois in frommage blanc--DIVINE & should be split. This is my favorite bistro in Paris with excellent food, wine & service.

Chez Julien, 16 rue Mabillon,6th, tiny restaurant w/incredible food. BEST onion soup, entree of "pastry stuffed w/eggplant,tom,mozz & herbs" comes as a terrine with no pastry & it is heavenly.

Willi's Wine Bar, 13 rue des Petits-Champs, Mark, closed Sun., great for drinks, lunch & buying one of their collectable posters.
Exit Willi's to the right & turn left on next street for restaurant Grand Colbert on right featured in "As Good as it Gets" scene w/Nicholson & Keaton.

AVOID Casa Bini, rue Gregoire du Tours, expensive & mediocre food...(even if Deneuve is supposed to be a regular) Pasta was infinitely better at Pizza Positano.

BEST MACARONS: Pierre Herme, 72 rue Bonaparte,6th.

WORST meals: Le Comptoir du Relais, resting on Yves laurels. AVOID.
Ditto for Atelier Maitre Albert, one of Guy Savoy's, AVOID.

Your "mystery" restaurant is indeed, alla Rampa, located behind the AX office to the right of the base of the Spanish Steps. Their antipasti luncheon buffet is phenomenal (1 trip only).
For dinner, try their spag. vongole or their osso bucco & defintely their tiramasu.
Cash only, 12:30-14:30 M-F; 19:30-23 T-Sa, closed Sun.

Rome restaurants

You MUST dine at Da Gelsomina In Anacapri (30 minute walk from Anacapri town and worth every step). Their ravioli melts in your mouth. After dining, short walk to the right end of the island for absolutely magnificent views.

Fiammetta in Rome is fantastic & casual. Don't miss.

Report on a wonderful week in Italy -- Long post

PeggyD-what a fabulously wonderful trip you had & one that you will never ever forget. Daughter of the Year! Your sweet mother & your Dad will be talking about their Italian trip for years! Now, we'll have to begin planning your next trip w/your son & husband.
I'm delighted that you loved Fiammetta. I would have their eggplant parm daily if I lived in Rome. So sorry you ended up at 3 stomachaches, there are some great places near the Vatican. But the red sauce at Fiammetta would pull me across the Tiber also. Fiammetta has an email address, ristorantefiammetta@libero.it for your next reservation.
Drop me an email kmmorg@comcast.net & I'll send you my Rome restaurants & Rome notes for your new Rome file. Sounds like you may have caught my addiction! Thanks for reporting so quickly--you've had many great thoughts sent your way. Give your sweet Mom a hug!
