suggestions for a great blues or jazz bar?

Jazz Standard has great shows and a fantastic beer list. Definitely not old school or cheap though.

Sunday Dinner Specials

I know at one point Gotham had one...Marc Forgione has one...Aureole has one in the bar room....what are the best current Sunday dinner specials? Thinking more downtown (South of 42nd), but aside from that just looking for high end places for a great (Less expensive than usual) Sunday meal. Thanks!

Newish restaurant - The Mott - anyone been?

That's a very interesting question. I called last night and asked...they said they 'couldn't answer that question' and to call back later to speak with a manager. Odd.

BYOB restaurants with good food?

While most BYOB places are a bit cramped for a birthday party, Sticky Rice on the LES would be good.

Wolfgang's

I have to say I'm surprised--I'm a big steakhouse fan and Wolfgang's is definitely one of the top I've been to. I've had really good experiences at both locations.

I'd recommend giving it another shot.

Comment on these SoHo restaurants, please.

Country Cafe is really tiny and quaint. Solid French/North African and welcoming, if a bit relaxed, service. Definitely a good 'neighborhood' place.

Tater Tots--who serves them?

Not really a restaurant, but Bar 9 on 53rd and 9th has always been a good choice for beer and tots.

Middle Eastern Food with BYOB in the East Village or LES?

Angelica Kitchen is great, but note that it's vegetarian.

Old Homestead still any good?

Haven't been in a long time, but I don't remember it being anything out of the ordinary. Granted, I didn't have the Gotham cut.

I liked PorterHouse very much, would recommend it.

Haven't tried Primehouse, but have heard good things.

Not sure if that was helpful....

Greatest for romance/celebratory evening?

Second for Bouley. Sounds like just what you're looking for.

Tartine or Cube 63?

Cube 63 takes reservations, which makes it a bit easier.

Perry Street good for birthday dinner?

I was there recently for a birthday dinner as well, and highly recommend it.

The room is thoroughly modern, which should appeal to your sensibilities. Portions sound just about what you're looking for as well.

The crab salad appetizer is fantastic, and the snapper with potato butter was also great.

dinner in financial district/tribeca

Bridge Cafe is great, not super inexpensive but enjoyable.

Landmarc is also great, really well-priced wine list. Don't think they take reservations, if that makes a difference.

what happened to the tasting room?

Yep--the new location closed. The original location, which I believe is now a wine bar, remains open.

Belcourt lunch review

I've been there for dinner, and so have friends on separate occasions. We all came away saying the same thing--everything was way, way, way, over-salted!

So much so that none of us were able to finish our entrees. I love the space, and everything was cooked well, but the salt was too much to handle. Anyone else have the same experience?

Lower East Side, need cheap or reasonable and good!

I know there's a branch that opened on the LES too.

Does Del Posto live up to hype/price?

The setting is beautiful, and in my experience the service has been fantastic. I can't find fault with the food--everything is expertly prepared. However, the food never blew me away, and for that price I think it certainly should. Very solid, but not the other-worldly experience I would expect from Mario.

Romantic Dinner in Tribeca?

I would recommend Duane Park. Newly re-opened, under the radar gem.

Extra Virgin?

Cute, little place. Food is good, nothing spectacular but very solid.

Prices are easy on the wallet.

Overall, I would recommend it.

Recent dinner experiences at: Perilla, Cookshop, Prune, Tides?

I've been to Perilla and Cookshop. Both are good, but I'd recommend Perilla hands down.

Discount Health/ Natural Food Stores

It's already been mentioned a bunch, but I've really found that Trader Joe's has the best prices on healthier options. Miss Needle also mentioned Westerly Market, I shop there less frequently but they have a great selection of a wide variety of health products.

Downtown: good food, fun, hip, and quiet

I was just at North Square last week, definitely cozy and quiet. Very good food. Not mind-blowing, but very good.

Discount Health/ Natural Food Stores

If you want to eat out and be healthy, Eva's on 8th St near 6th Ave is the best. Not really a sit down restaurant, but great for a quick bite or take out/delivery.

My boyfriend loves steak

Granted I've only eaten at Uncle jack's once, but I found it a very pleasant experience. I wouldn't necessarily put it in my top-tier, but I found it to be a solid option.

Casual Italian in Soho/Tribeca?

Max in the East Village is great, and I know they now have a Tribeca branch. Haven't been, but if it's on par with it's sibling it's affordable and fun.
