Need a pre-theatre dinner suggestion

Overall, Strada57 was great! We were seated immediately, the service was very attentive, and the food was delicious! (I had papardelle with a country lamb ragu - DELISH).

My only complaint is that their website, which is how I found the place, didn't advertise that they were featuring a Valentine's Day menu (off of which nobody in my family wanted to order) and that if you chose to order off the regular menu, each dish was $5 more than the price on the menu. Very unethical, in my opinion...

But, pricing snafu aside, the place was great! I'd definitely recommend it.

Need a pre-theatre dinner suggestion

yeah i know...but it's a little pricier than i'd like my dad to have to spend...my dad is already shelling-out enough $ on 5 theatre tickets that night...

Need a pre-theatre dinner suggestion

as it stands now, we have a 6pm reservation at strada 57 italian ristorante...the menu looked very appealing and the price was definitely right.

has anyone been there?

Need a pre-theatre dinner suggestion

thanks for the compass rec. not sure it'll fly with my family's tastes, unfortunately. everyone has told me they want italian food, and they tend to like more 'traditional' italian (pastas, veal parm, osso buco, things like that...).

Need a pre-theatre dinner suggestion

thanks for the advice/rec. i'll cross il violino off the list!

how about roberto passon? anyone been there? any good?

Need a pre-theatre dinner suggestion

after trying, and failing, to get a reservation at patsy's on 56th st, i made reservations at both il violino, and strada 57, at the recommendations of some acquaintances of mine. i'd like to decide on a restaurant so i can cancel the other reservation...

so...preferences between il violino and strada 57? has anyone been to both? recommendations on what to eat at either place? remember, i'm looking for a good meal with good atmosphere (doesn't have to be a mind-blower), not too expensive, and good italian food.

Need a pre-theatre dinner suggestion

I guess my response to the 'per person' question would be...entrees under $30/person, if possible...?

Need a pre-theatre dinner suggestion

My family is coming into NYC on Valentine's Day, which we usually spend together as a family, and we're going to see South Pacific that night (it's a Saturday) at Lincoln Center.

I'd like to find a restaurant for the five of us for dinner around 6pm that evening, prior to the show. Ideally I'd like to find something within a reasonable walking distance from the theatre (10 blocks or so...), not *too* expensive, that has a nice variety of food. My father and one of my younger brothers are fairly adventurous when it comes to food. My mother, other younger brother, and myself aren't quite as adventurous. I'd like something with a nice atmosphere but, more importantly, deliciously memorable food.

(I hear Patsy's, on W. 56th, is a good Italian option (my family loves Italian food) - any thoughts on Patsy's?)

I'd like to try and stay away from Chinese, sushi, and Indian. Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Restaurant near 69th and Amsterdam

if you're willing to take a 15 minute walk, and enjoy mexican food, i'd recommend gabriela's on 93rd/columbus. delicious food, great margaritas. if the weather is nice, sit outside and do some people-watching...

Korean Restaurant Week - guidance required

kunjip is great. i have never had a bad experience there - great service and great food.

Argentinian recs?

la rural is fantastic. i've been there several times and have nothing negative to say about it!

Best steakhouse for ribeye steak

la rural, on 97th/amsterdam. i have been several times and *always* have their ribeye - it's fantastic.

Peaches - UWS

Walking home from the subway last night I noticed a new place on the west side of Broadway between 95th and 96th streets.
It's a 'natural yogurt' place called Peaches, I think. I didn't go in but it looks similar to the premise of Pinkberry.

I think it has only been open for a day, maybe two. Has anyone tried it yet??

UES Italian Recs

i happen to really enjoy firenze on 2nd ave and 83rd st. they have a delicious wine selection and their chicken fiorentino is fantastic.

Best cheap sushi - please recommend!

i had a wonderful (and fairly cheap!) meal at avenue a sushi last week...

Artie's Deli - Upper West Side?

obviously artie's pastrami doesn't compare to that of katz's. but i have eaten at artie's several times, being an UWS resident, and i find their pastrami sandwiches to be very satisfying if you're looking for a regular pastrami sandwich.

long story short - if you want spectacular, go to katz's. if you want satisfying, go to artie's.

La Rural

i love la rural!
it is my go-to place for steak...partly because it is three blocks from my apartment, but also partly because it's delicious!

college-bound kid, upper west side

if the weather's nice, you could go to gabriela's on columbus btw 93rd/94th and sit outside. the food is good, reasonably-priced, and it's a great location for people-watching.

La Rural (steakhouse)

i haven't eaten at roth's in quite a while, and have only been to la rural once, so i honestly can't say if one is better than the other - i'd have to give each one another shot.
but i CAN say that i was very impressed with the steak i had at la rural, it was delicious.

La Rural (steakhouse)

Nope, I had never been there before...

As for the A/C, it was very pleasant. We happened to be seated right by the open front windows so we had a nice breeze coming through...

La Rural (steakhouse)

My roommates and I were looking for a good steak dinner in our neighborhood (West 96th Street), and upon searching around we found La Rural, on 98th/Amsterdam.

It was fantastic. The atmosphere was wonderful - somewhat dimly lit, with exposed brick walls, iron lighting, and the grill visible to most tables. It felt very South American, and since it was an Argentinian steakhouse it was very appropriate...

The meal was delicious, too. We all had glasses of red sangria, shared a HUGE order of garlic and parsley french fries (golden crispy!), and two of us had rib eye steaks cooked medium rare, while the other had grilled chicken. The steak was amazing - cooked perfectly, very tender, and extremely flavorful. I did not try the chicken but my roommate was raving about it. The fries were great, and the sangria was a perfect accompaniment. Everything was priced very reasonably, too. The sangria was $5/glass, the fries were in the $6 range, the chicken was $14, and the steaks were $21 each (for a huge 14oz. steak!).

Just thought I'd recommend it to anyone in the mood for a great steak...

Enjoy!

best margarita to drink outside

Crepes in Soho

i actually had a very decent crepe at kitchen commune, on broadway (around broome street). it wasn't spectacular, but it definitely satisfied my craving at the time.

joe's shanghai

thanks for the pictures!
the shrimp looks delicious, and seeing those soup dumplings again made me want to get up from my desk and head to pell street! maybe this weekend...

joe's shanghai

wow - shrimp in meat sauce sounds awesome! is it similar to shrimp in lobster sauce?

UWS resto

i happen to enjoy alouette, on 97th/broadway. very cute atmosphere, good food, reasonable prices.

Any restaurant rec's near 105th & Broadway?

my roommates and i enjoy toast, on 105th/broadway.

Hi-Life Bar/Grill (UWS)
