MKE- pacific produce opening a north side location

Just an observation...just West of Hwy 100 on National Ave, there is a small strip mall that Margarita Paradise was in, I noticed a sign that says it is going to be an Asian Market Mall. There is a Chinese restaurant, Big Apple and I think a very small Asian market. Does anyone know what else may be going in there?

Costco "Brands"

Wow didn't know that.. I searched some prior threads on Kirkland signature Vodka on Chow and people were saying that Grey Goose is written right on the label. I think it is my duty to run to Costco to see if that is true.

I believe Kirkland Vodka is made by Grey Goose. Someone told me this, so I don't know if this is accurate.

Kenosha WI -- one meal!

Oh too bad. Sebastian's isn't a dressy place. It is what I would say is business casual. I have been there and there have been plenty of people there wearing nice jeans. But I can understand being Valentine's Day, that had to be a hard night to go out anywhere.

Places to eat in Door County WI?

The Glidden Lodge has a great view of the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula. I also love The Whistling Swan. For casual we always have a good meal at Kitty O'reilly's in Sturgeon Bay. We also love The Cabin on Bay Shore just north of Sturgeon Bay.

Fried Rice frustration in Milwaukee...

There are two locations. One on Hwy 100 and Oklahoma and one further south on Hwy 100 near Grange. The southern Fortune has two menus, American and Chinese. I'm not sure if the location near Oklahoma has two menus. I have only been to the Fortune near Grange in Hales Corners.

Fish Boil worth it?

I think it is something to see for sure once. I don't like fish boils but it is special to Door County. I have attached a picture of a boil when the kettle boils over.

Showing off in Milwauke....

I would go to The Hinterland on Erie in The Third Ward and eat off their bar menu. You can sit in the back lounge area or sidewalk seating.
Cafe Benelux has a great roof top seating, I would go there for drinks and maybe an appetizer.
Wolf Peach , in the old Roots location, has a great view of downtown. I haven't been yet so I can't comment on the food.

MKE - Deptolla's Top 30 of 2012

We have been to c.1880 and were underwhelmed. It took over 10 minutes for the waiter to acknowledge us. He did and said he'd be right back to take our drink order and another 10 minutes passed. The place was not overly busy.
We had the Foie Gras appetizer with some kind of foie flan foam. I am really tired of the foam phase. The Foie Gras was good but for $20 I would think that we would have gotten more than a sliver.
My lamb was different- two medallions over some thing as described as a Mediterranean medley. I wouldn't order it again.
My husband some type of fish, he can't remember . I think it was rainbow trout. Either way he said it wasn't very good and also wouldn't order it again.
Overall we weren't impressed.

Saturday Brunch 1st Weekend of Jazz Fest???

The best brunch is on the Jazz fest grounds. No need to go anywhere else with the variety of food at fest. I think the grounds open at noon and the last performance is around 5 ish. But my memory maybe wrong on the times. Regardless, why take 2 hours out of fest to go to a brunch?

Couldn't find frozen sweetened strawberries, how to make my own? How much sugar do I use?

Have you tasted the thawed organic strawberries? I would taste them to see how sweet they are and then start by adding the sugar , 2 tablespoons at a time. Taste after the additions until you have the sweetness you want.

MKE - Help, please...Crazy Water or Hinterland for a special dinner

The Hinterland or Crazy Water are excellent restaurants. Crazy Water is rather small, everything is prepared basically right behind the bar. A very casual bistro type atmosphere. Food is very welcoming.

The Hinterland has a large dining area with a front bar and back bar where you can eat too. I wouldn't suggest eating at the bar areas for your celebratory dinner. I find The Hinterland to be very creative with their choices. The wait staff is well versed with the selections. Chef Dan Van Rite continues to change up the menu with a Wisconsin flair. I also know that they have their seafood flown in from each coast , I think almost daily.
I have had wonderful birthday, anniversary dinners at The Hinterland. I have also had great dinners at Crazy Water.
IMO I'd try The Hinterland this time and then for the next anniversary try Crazy Water.
