Takeout in Trumbull Conn?

I work in Trumbull. There aren't many choices. But my coworkers and I all love Panera Bread. They have great easy take out, salads, soups and sandwiches mostly. And nice bakery items.

Casual dinner (with a child) between New Haven and Essex?

We decided to go to Westbrook Lobster in Clinton. They were having a special, 1.5 lb lobster dinner for $11.99 I think it was. It was very casual, just what we wanted.

We were there early, around 4:30pm, and were hoping to be out of there by 5:30ish in order to stop at the Westbrook outlets before heading to the Steam Train. That didn't happen, as it was, we barely made the steam train.

We ordered 2 of the lobster dinners and an appetizer that my son would fill up on so we didn't order a dinner for him. We received rolls (they were warm!) and salad. And then waited, and waited, then realized others who'd come in well behind us were being served. Asked our waitress, she said it would just be a minute, and we continued to wait and wait. We were pretty close to leaving at that point, we were starving and we didn't think we'd even have enough time to eat.

Our meals finally came out around 6pm. The waitress apologized and said our order had gotten lost, and that they'd run out of 1.5lb lobsters so one of us got a 2lb one. Lot of good it did us, we had to wolf down our meals. My son by that point was going beserk, we'd been asking a 4 year old (who was great for the first hour) to sit quietly for far too long. The lobsters tasted fine, though.

I guess if I had a hankering for a whole lobster and was in the area and had no time limit I might go again and hope for the best!

Thanks all for the suggestions!

Casual dinner (with a child) between New Haven and Essex?

Thanks so much to everyone for taking the time to reply! I'm making a list and will let my mom decide what she'd prefer. I'll report back! :`)

Casual dinner (with a child) between New Haven and Essex?

We'll be heading from New Haven on 95 and to Essex for the steam train ride on 11/28. The train is at 7pm. So we'd like to have an early dinner enroute. It will be my mom and myself and we'll have one 4 yo with us.

Mom and I especially love seafood but we'll eat anything except Thai or Indian.

I thought about the Chowder Pot since it's very casual...is that any good? I haven't been there in, oh, 15 years. LOL

Any alternate suggestions?

Thanks! :`)

Child friendly, downtown New Haven (post Shubert dinner)

A friend and I are taking our 4 year olds to a show at the Shubert. I'm trying to come up with someplace that is child-friendly for dinner together after the show. I'm not so worried about the food being child-friendly (in other words, I don't need chicken nuggets, ethnic is fine, these kids eats veggies, no allergic restrictions) but just a clean, not a bar, casual place to go.

I thought of Claire's...but since it's been a few years since I've spent any measurable time in the city I couldn't think of anyplace else. (I don't even know if Claire's is still open?)

Any suggestions for us? OH, it will be a Saturday and we'll be arriving around 6:15pm.

Buffet brunch Orange, CT area...w/kids?

Thanks for the suggestion! It looks awesome to me and I will definitely try it one day...but the rest of my crew (except my 2 year old who's definitely mama's boy when it comes to being a foodie!) wants regular ol' american type breakfast/brunch fare.

Buffet brunch Orange, CT area...w/kids?

Our favorite brunch to go to when we're taking the kids was Dakota's in Milford but it's recently closed. We're having family in town on 3/16 and would all like to go to brunch together, preferably not too far. I was hopeful that the Bear and Grille would be a good sub but the only reviews I've seen so far (on Trip Advisor) aren't promising. ]

Would love any suggestions, thanks!

Eating Near Mohegan Sun

We recently ate at Birches that's at Mohegan and we loved it. I think the prices are very reasonable, great portions and both of our meals were delicious. They have an awesome house salad dressing and they serve up traditional succotash with bread...yummm!

Best Cinco de Mayo celebration in Fairfield/Bridgeport area

I'm a little late on this one but for future reference, Senor Panchos in Monroe is always fun! And they have a nice outdoor patio. (They have 'seatings' for 5/5...you need a reservation.) But it's fun year round!

Beach House - Milford (Woodmont), CT

Well, we decided to go. They are in this year's Entertainment Book, so 1 entree was free up to $29...figured that would make it reasonable enough that even if it wasn't awesome we'd be fine with it. We made reservations through Opentable, that worked ok but we'd asked for a romantic table and they didn't seem to acknowldge that part. Service was incredibly slow considering it was a Sunday and not terribly busy, the water we were first served was warm...it must have been sitting for a while. My husband ordered the 'toasted mozzarella' appetizer. We were rather surprised when we were served a cold ball of cheese on top of a small sald with roasted sweet peppers. It tasted good, but wasn't what we'd pictured from the description. I had a beefsteak tomato salad, it was delicious but nothing different or special about it. Their bread is served with a small crock of olive oil with roasted shallots in it over a small flame. It never did get warm al though that didn't bother us. The biscuits they served were delicious, very light. My husband was intending to order the mashed potatoes as a side but the waiter told us that all of the entrees came with mashed potatoes and a vegetable caponata...so he didn't bother. He had the NY strip and I had the filet. No complaints at all about the meat...but I can't say it was the best I'd ever had. I also had the gorgonzola cream they offered with mine, it was very light and different. I liked it. The potatoes were fine, as were the veggies...although there were alot of peppers, mostly peppers actually. We did notice that there was a common theme of roasted peppers and/or roasted shallots in almost everything. We chose not to have dessert, we stopped to get me an ice cream cone instead! LOL

Overall it was a pleasant evening, nothing bad about it but nothing to rave about either. And not crazy expensive considering the $29 discount. We didn't have any alcohol and the bill came to $60 which I thought reasonable for what we had. I would not go back, though..there are so many restaurants to try that unless it's really awesome it's not worth it for me.

Our next celebration I'm making reservations at Jeffrey's!

Thanks for the reply Brian. Does Jeffrey's have good steaks? My husband is a picky eater so I was looking for someplace that he'd enjoy.

Brunch at Spinning Wheel Inn Redding, CT

We've been here a number of times over the years, most recently for an office Christmas party. It's such a pretty setting and the food is generally excellent. We've made reservations for Mother's Day Brunch, has anyone been here for brunch?

Beach House - Milford (Woodmont), CT

Anyone been here? We're considering trying this place for our anniversary. The initial reviews when it opened in 2005 were positive...but I haven't heard a word about it since.
