Good eats with a 14 year old
Pizzetta 211 is near Golden Gate Park. Bill's Place - they grind their own beef for hamburgers and killer shakes. Or dim sum.

I have gone there three times, all lunch. The menu has rounded out for the meat and seafood eaters. The levain is delicious. I have had the grilled cheese twice, so YUM. Thick slices of Levain, I think they are rubbed with garlic and then basted in butter, they get the bread nice and crispy and the cheese starts to melt into the bubbles of the crumb. The other time I had the open face eggplant sando, fabulous. Today i had the tomato soup wth my grilled cheese. it was delicious, creamy without cream - I think. It was too deep red to have had cream added. I couldn't finish my soup, so i left a $2 deposit and took it home in a mason jar. Awesome, I live in the neaighborhood so the return will be easy, I wonder if I will be able to order something besides the grilled cheese Of course when I go to dinner, I will have to order the mac and cheese. I probably will need to go in a group so everything can be sampled.
I think they only offer dine in during dinner times.
Go go go!
Looking for Vacaville Coffee Tree Apricot Logs Recipe
When I was a little girl my family would take my brother and I to the Nut Tree and sometimes to the Coffee Tree accross the highway. Besides the giant giraffe rocking "horses," and the fresh pineapple with marshmellow sauce, I loved the apricot logs at the Coffee Tree. I want to remember the center a crunchy sugar dried apricot paste, I think the dough was puff pastry. Maybe the business envelope fold and some slashes perpendicular to the length. A wash of some sort and (sanding?) sugar.
If anyone remembers these delicious treats, please chime in with your memories and maybe we can create a recipe.
Or better yet, if you have it, please post it! I am salivating. Hmm, did I just remember a little saltiness with apricot log?
Yum, please help.
anything new to do with Ground Beef?
Joe's Special. The egg scramble with ground beef, onions, garlic, olive oil, mushrooms, oregano, and parmesan. It is good for any meal. And you probably have most of those ingredients at home already. Doesn't sound like much but my friends love it and as I child I loved it.
Chic hors d'oeuvres
How about Vietnamese Summer rolls. They are fresh, they hold shape. Traditionally they are made with shrimp or pork or vegetarian. Can you bring a BBQ? If so, make skewer of meat and roast the little guys there. Seafood, oysters, bring on ice and pop them open for the guests as the filter in.
Hope that helps.
How do you make Peppadew Peppers?
I have some yummy fresh from Mariquita farm peppadew looking peppers and I want to make the sweet spicy preserved peppers. Any ideas or recipes? Not sure if this is the right pepper, I renamed them Cherry Bombs, because they are sweet and mellow in the first moment and then BAM hot hothotHOT!
wine/beer pairing for chicken tikka masala?
Try a Gruner Veltliner. Or a Gewurztraminer. And enjoy!
Gourmet Salts...?
Anyone try the Bacon Salt from the Grateful Palate?
Or how about the ham dust?
I am intrigued, but if I buy all that intrigues me at GP, I am out a few hundred bucks!
What's your crazy and fun ethnic snack? [moved from Manhattan board]

Pupusas - Imagine fresh hand made tortillas thjt are extra thick filled with savory black beans and cheese or pork and then cooked on the griddle. The are served with a cabbage slaw and a salsa. I think they hail from El Salvador.
Gourmet Salts...?
I do not know about French salts. But I love salt. I try to buy sea salt every place I go (meaning vacations or interesting travels). I do small taste tests with food. It is fun to learn which I prefer with what food.
Salt has always being important. I recall a story of the Roman soldiers being paid in salt hence the word salary.
I figure if the expensive stuff is less than $20, why not go for it?
Bar Bambino - anyone been yet?
Just heard about this place. Has any chowhound tried it? Also I could not get the wines to come up on their website, www.barbambino.com

I have had success at times with Golden Gate Pizza and Indian. i love the Chicken Makanwala. It is on Judah and 46thish, next door to the 7-11 and diagonal to Than Long. I adore El Burrito Express up Taraval maybe at 23rdish? - get the Carne Asada - it's angus, and go for the bronco burrito - bust mix of choices, just remember to add heat.

I am tempted but cannot leave the house - having some work done. I think I will have to tap into the enchilada materials I was planning on assembling this afternoon. This is horrible between the new Saveur mag that just arrived and CHOW I am drooling!
What can I do with frozen cheese ravioli?
If you are feeling adventurous, FRY them! Or make a gratin with cream butter and parmesan. How about brown butter and sage, yum, and if you can throw some butternut squash in the mix. I am hungry...I need lunch!

Lunch needed in Outer Sunset
I am at my house near the beach and I am so hungry I can't think of what or where to eat. I am a bit hungover from my Cinco de Mayo practice night. Thinking of trying the Mexican and Salvadorean Restaurant up Taraval but it is very far. Any recommendations?
