New food festival in Franklin, TN
no its not just bbq, its a whole bunch of southern related stuff. here is what ive heard/found out thus far; its southern microbreweries, bourbon distilleries, southern cooking (lovelace cafe, princes, other famous places throughout the south), celebration of community supported agriculture, doc. films, southern authors/historians. the site is franklinfoodandspirits.com. its really exciting, but i still for the life of me cant figure out how/why im just now finding out about this less than two weeks before the event.
In town for one night... Where to eat ?
mia francescas is always a favorite stop of mine.
New food festival in Franklin, TN
franklin food & spirits festival in franklin. saw a link this morning on a blog about a pig on main street franklin, linked to the site for the festival and saw the chefs they had attending, two of which are john fleer and sean brock. the southern foodways alliance is involved also. im definitely going. surprised though that i have not seen any advertising about this in/around the nashville area.
Cream Ale
What is the absolute "creamiest" cream ale out there? Caffery's Irish Cream Ale comes to mind, but I'm looking for something creamier than that.
Mia Francescas
Anyone have any opinion on this place? Might be going to dinner there with friends.
Franklin, TN; Sol
If you have not been to Sol in Franklin, TN you are missing some of the best and most authentic Mexican (specificaly Oaxacan Mexican) food ever. I have now been there 4 times, have had 4 totally different dishes and were blown away by them all. The mole might be the best I've ever had. Now coming from a gringo working in the justice system in Nashville my recommendation may not carry a lot of weight, but my co-workers who are hispanic agree that with me totally. Has anyone else on this board been there?
Must eats in Nashville and Memphis
In Memphis go to Cozy Corner and/or Payne's. Dont know of any good brisket in Memphis. In Nashville I would recommend Tex's bbq if you are just looking for brisket. Judge Beans and Mickey Roo's have really, really gone down hill. If a 20 minute drive doesnt bother you then Martins BBQ in Nolensville is the absolute best the Nashville area has, beef or pork. His brisket is awesome, but get the pulled pork or the ribs. The guy seriously knows his stuff. He does do Memphis in May once a year but he's not from a competition background, his background is cooking whole hog under some pit-masters in west tennessee..........which reminds me that on your way from Memphis to Nashville you should detour through Henderson and/or Lexington and grab a sandwich or two there. Old Time BBQ in Henderson and Scotts in Lexington. Oh yeah.....if you go to Martin's, be very careful with the hot sauce...get it on the side!
Henderson, Tn - help locate Bar B Que place
place you are talking about is probably on the corner of hwy 100 & hwy 22A. Its changed hands a few times and is not as good as it used to be. Go west of there about 3 miles and there is a place on the left across from a gas station that used to be called L&L BBQ. it is awesome. There are 4-5 other joints on up in Henderson which is another 3 or so miles west.
City House in Nashville
had the bread gnocchi, rapini pizza. the set up is really nice. its nice to have a chef owned place open on a Sunday night around here!
Nashville - NYC hound coming for FOOD
If you have an extra 30 minutes go to Nolensville which is just southeast of Nashville and go to Martins BBQ. They have some of the best bbq Ive had anywhere and is in my opinion the best around Nashville. Sportsmans has a great burger (the one in Cool Springs, which is I think head and shoulders better than the other two). I really enjoy the burger at boscos in Hillsboro Village, and I think they have the best steak sandwich I've ever had!
City House in Nashville
ate at the new Nashville restaurant City House in Germantown. I highly recommend it! Sat at the chefs bar with chef Tandy Wilson, it was a great experience!
Visiting Nashville Oct 4-8
coffee: fido's in hillsboro villiage (less than a mile from you)
sports bar: there are a few downtown next to the arena; rippy's, eddie george's....you'll find one you like
murfreesboro: buster's........THE best burger in that area.
Nashville BBQ
two places around here that have dry ribs (besides corky's) is paradise ridge in bellevue and martin's in nolensville. paradise ridge was built off an award winning competition bbq team and martins built off "old school" bbq joints of west tennessee. they are both great but martin's gets my vote, i think they have the best bbq in the nashville area.
Dining Recommendations for Nashville Area
dont know where my head was.......for someone who eats there every couple of weeks you'd think they would get the name right.
Dining Recommendations for Nashville Area
dalaneymae has some strong suggestions........here are a few more for you.
copper kettle meat & 3 on granny white is just awesome! chef driven meat & 3.
arthurs meat & 3 (more traditional meat & 3) is a close second
red pony in franklin is very, very good
flyte is awesome
martin's bbq joint in nolensville is hands down the areas best & most authentic bbq. its some of the best ive had anywhere in the country.
los primos.
Go eat at Martin's Bar-B-Que in Nashville!
1st went there a couple of months ago and i had/have the same opinion. it is easily the best bbq in the nashville area with neely's & jacks running 2nd/3rd. it (martins) is still a well kept secret because they are in nolensville. they have gotten some pretty good press though (tennessean, rage etc..) its the most authentic anywhere around here. dont go on saturday nights though because its too packed.
The Florida Keys
the green turtle reopened?!?!?! thats great! whats the word on pierre's in islamorada, ive heard its pretty good.
Jackson, TN Recommendations
follow the instructions of jay shires.......go to henderson!!! if you cant make it there go to lexington and eat at b.e. scotts or hayes bbq. scotts is great and is deserving of the press they get but i really think mr. hayes has a better product. its some of the best bbq you'll have. for catfish you might think about carl perkins old place on hwy 45 on the south side of jackson. for the best fish anywhere you should go to ed shaws in shiloh, its THE best.
Best BBQ in or around Gatlinburg (NON-CHAIN PLEASE!!!)
for really great bbq, i mean really authentic bbq, you are not going to find any unless something new has opened in the past few months that is the real deal. mardy is right, you probably should go to calhouns. pretty good restaurant and pretty good ribs. the one weird thing about the south is that it seems like from the tennessee river around waverly, tn to lexington, nc there are very few good bbq joints anywhere. dont get me wrong, they are out there but they are very hard to find! unlike west tennessee, mississippi, alabama, etc.. where there is a great joint in every other town.
Great pizza in Stamford, CT
a buddy of mine ate at Sorrentos pizza and thought it was some of the best he's had in a while. family owned and they are all very nice! the owner tony uva made his pie......funny as hell! have any you been here? ill be going to stamford on business in june, where is it?
Hidden Gems in Nashville?
margot, marche, tayste, acorn, mirror, rotiers, mothership bbq, martins bbq, bongo java (coffee), radius 10.
Fried chicken in Alabama or Mississippi?
chapmans outside of corinth, ms has unreal catfish & fried chicken. ed shaws in pickwick is the best in the south. big bob gibsons in decatur is your bet for bbq.
