Nova Scotia: Hot Lobster?
Yes, Harris' Quick N Tasty. They used to have a restaurant down the hill (across the street from it) that use to serve delicious supper meals, too. Oh, I've had it there (Q n T), but homemade is soooooooooo much better. Kinda watery at Harris', if you ask me, but they make it with real cream and I don't, and the flavour is much better there, just not thick enough for my liking. I eat it at different restaurants. I've even had Lobster Newburg at fancy restaurants, too. YUM!
East Coast Lobster!
FYI - Sou'west Nova Scotia lobster season is from the end of November until the end of May, so it's different, depending on where you go in Nova Scotia. But, in the city of Halifax, for example, you can get lobster anytime, as they get it from other places, too. Nova Scotia lobster is the best, especially when caught in the cold Bay of Fundy waters. And no, I'm not a lobster fisherman. ;)
Nova Scotia: Hot Lobster?
You are referring to a Hot Lobster Sandwich (not hot lobster, boiled and not chilled...) which is actually made by sauteeing cooked lobster pieces in butter, adding a bit of flour and adding cream (I use milk, 1%, not as good, but better for you) until you get a nice slight thickness to it and serve it on toast, large slices of homemade bread or in small phylo tarts. The true Hot Lobster is called Lobster Newburg, made with dry sherry. Not my style, but lots of people like it. You'll find plenty of recipes for that online and you don't need to add the sherry.
great food in Halifax?
Yes, Kym, Five Fishermen (as mentioned below) is a great place for seafood. The salad/mussel bar (unlimited) for an appetizer is a must. Enjoy your visit!
Best in New Brunswick
My best recommendation on where to eat in Saint John would be the Church Street Steak House at 10 Grannan Street (corner of Church Street). OMG! Really good steaks and seafood and my husband and I have always had lovely service there. A bit pricey, but the menu is extensive and the food is plenty. That has been my experience, anyway. Other than that, were to eat in NB would be Comeau's Seafood in Pennfield, if you're a fish/scallop lover. Bon Appetit!
