Birthday Dinner in Orange County
How about narrowing things down... like type of food? Northern, central, or southern OC area?
Russell's Seafood in Irvine Closed?
I tried Russell's for dim sum and that turned out to be the only time, needless to say. The only good thing was that it wasn't busy, so no wait. After trying their food, I'd rather wait for China Garden.
Katsuya
Just read on the LA Times that the Katsuya from Studio City will open a restaurant at the New Nokia LA Live area next to the Staples Center.
Taco Rosa Fine Mexican in O.C.
If you want great carnitas in the same type of setting, Taleo blows Taco Rosa out of the water IMO. Check it out!
The Counter is coming to OC
Yep, very old news. I found out when the Woodbury Center building plans were announced. It's taking them a while to open though.
Lunch Options in Irvine
Welcome. I actually live not too far from that area, and would love to walk or bike to work. To beat the lunch rush, just make sure you leave no later than 11:30 am. Some of my favorites: I like Thai Bamboo Bistro in Quail Hill. Big portions, a bit on the pricey side, but it's Thai "comfort food." I like the beef noodle soup in Tri-Village, in the Trabuco shopping center further down Jeffrey past Walnut and the 5 fwy. J&J Bakery on Culver offers inexpensive lunch options such as pork chop fried rice.
Tried both Ikko in Costa Mesa and Mochilato in Irvine tonight
Nice review, I will have to check out some of the places mentioned. I was surprised to read that Tropika was a disappointment for you. I've eaten there 3-4 times now, and each time the food has been great, despite the high prices. What you do you usually order there?
China Garden in Irvine... very disappointed
Yeah, stick with the dim sum at China Garden. I had bad experiences with lunch and dinner.
TACO ROSA-BAD
Yikes, sorry to hear about that experience. I haven't tried the Tustin location, as it seems like they are still working out all the kinks. The Newport Beach location is okay, but I got a severe case of food poisoning the day after I ate there... Of course, I ate other things in between, but I'm 95% sure it was Taco Rosa food... I think I ordered something like lobster enchiladas.
Sweet Potato Fries in The OC?
Just came back from lunch and tried the sweet potato fries at the new Yard House in Fashion Island, Newport Beach. Very good when crispy and hot, but bad when cold and soggy (like any other fries, right?).
Irvine Farmers Market recs
I usually just price shop and look for the most fresh produce, but in all honestly their prices aren't really that cheap compared to other markets on sale.
Am looking for a fun, unique restaurant for a female 20th birthday party - Orange/LA County. Help!
Uh, can you narrow it down a bit... type of food?
Wonderland Bakery
Super expensive and ultra hyped. I heard Kobe Bryant goes there to buy chocolate covered strawberries for his wife.
Wholesome Choice's Persian Food Counter - If You Dare!
OCKevin, great post. What you just wrote I have experienced more than once at Wholesome Choice and it's just not in the food court area. My coworker and I walked around the market during lunch looking at all the wide variety of foods and suddenly one of their workers approached us abruptly and said, "Can I help you?" The way he said it seemed very rude and un-friendly, as if he thought we were acting suspiciously or something. Needless to say, that was a bizarre encounter. I'm a customer that enjoys good customer service and their food isn't THAT great to be putting up with their rudeness. LOL!
Authentic chinese noodle house in Irvine?
Anyone know of any good homemade noodles place around OC? I saw that Glutton for Punishment show on Food TV and have been craving for some ever since...
Mastro's Steakhouse Bone-In Ribeye
I'm drooling... can't wait to go back to Mastro's in Costa Mesa next month for my birthday. Bone-in ribeye here I come...
Fried Chicken in OC
How about Knott's Berry Farm Fried Chicken? Drive out to Long Beach for Roscoe's?
good sushi in Orange County?
Kitayama in Newport Beach. A bit pricey but nice decor and atmosphere.
Tri-Village Irvine - What are Your Favorites?
I've been to Tri-Village several times and the food is decent and overpriced, considering it's in OC and they have to overpay the Irvine Co. landlord. I've read mixed reviews here, but I've never had a bad experience. There's no way it compares to comparable places in say... SG Valley or SF. You have to know what to order... I usually stay away from the "americanized" dishes and stick to the northern dim sum menu. I love the beef noodle soup with homemade noodles -- although they charge an extra $1 for that homemade goodness. I've also heard that the chef left to start his own restaurant down the street on Walnut and Jeffrey.
New Phillipino Bakery in Lake Forest!
So we checked out the place but didn't buy anything. There is no food that is on display (only pastries leftover from the previous business) or ready for order. You either have to call ahead to order, so it seemed more like a catering business.
New Phillipino Bakery in Lake Forest!
So you tried this place? What do you recommend?
zov's breakfast prices?
I agree that it's definitely not cheap. I recently went there for the first time for dinner and prices were in the $15 - $25 range. The food was great, can't complain about that. I would think that breakfast is around $10.
Where can I get an awesome lobster
I had the lobster at the Palm Restaurant in Las Vegas (inside Caesar's Palace), and if all the restaurants taste this good, I highly recommend it.
Steak in OC -- Flemming's, Ruth's Chris, Morton's or?
Ditto on everything you wrote about the Ruth Chris in Irvine. It felt more like a Sizzler and our waiter wasn't knowledgable on anything. I asked him to suggest a wine and he didn't know. He told us not to touch the sizzling hot plate, and what do you know, he touches the plate and nearly burns his hand while almost knocking over our plates.
Pinkberry in the OC
Maybe check out Beach Berries in Huntington Beach. I have yet to try, but read about it here:
