Downtown but I don't mind going to Old-Montreal, Plateau, Mile-End, Outremont.

Need lunch recs for weekday for very important client

I need to treat a very important client to lunch this week and have no idea where to bring him. He is from out of town and apparently likes "trendy spots" but I don't want to compromise food quality for trendiness... Thanks!

Help me feed a crunchy BC hippie relative...PLEASE!

Tabasco Slection in Montreal

La Depense only has classic, I went last weekend. I found a bigger selection at Douceurs du Marche at Atwater.

What's the best thing you've eaten in Montreal??

My favorites are the lobster spaghetti at Joe Beef, the fideos at Tapeo, the lobster and avocado sushi pizza at Tri Express and the pain perdu at Lemeac.

Restaurant Openings in 2011

Chuck Hughes' new place opened last night. It's a seafood restaurant called Bremner, on St Paul in front of Marche Bonsecours.

Lobster?

Currently on La salle a manger's menu are the lobster salad and a lobster club sandwich. I tried both and loved the salad but not so much the club. Nouveau Falero on Parc makes a mean lobster roll.

Andrew Zimmern in Mtl

It looks like the host of Bizarre Foods is in Mtl this week, not sure if he's filming an episode for his show. So far he has been to Joe Beef, DNA, Au pied de cochon, Schwartz, cabane a sucre APDC, 5e peche and tonight at Salle a Manger. If you follow him on twitter you'll get a bunch of pictures and comments. He has also written that Salle a Manger might be the best restaurant in Canada and this is only after having a few appetizers.

Cooking spaghetti in beef broth?

I often cook spaghetti in broth or red wine, it's really tasty.

DNA, Kitchenette ou Le Comptoir

Went to Kitchenette last night and they had several veggie friendly options, lots of fish and also seafood stew. App 150$ for 2 apps, 2 mains and a bottle of wine.

Michelin *** in the province?

When are u travelling? There is the festival Montreal en lumiere coming up and they invite chefs from around the world to cook in several restaurants

Creative pack-a-lunch RICE BOWL recipes?

I cook brown rice with half stock half tomato juice, then add 1 or 2 cans if sardines and a few minutes before the rice is done, add some brocoli and a spoon of harissa. I also broil some brocoli in the oven ( burnt brocoli is very yummy) to top the rice bowl with. Sometimes I also add toasted almonds.

BEST OF 2010

I went a few times already, service is great, quality price ratio amazing and it's byow. They change their menu often but my favorite dishes were the squid salad and the chorizo stuffed rabbit. The only negative would be that it's an open kitchen and the smell from all the cooking is overwhelming.

Freshest spices in Montreal

Olives et Epices in JTM or Anatol on St-Laurent in Little Italy

BEST OF 2010

Quartier General, Salle a Manger and 400 coups were my favorites this year.

If you're familiar with Yang's sushi in TO, you'll be happy to know that they are opening in Swatow Place in a few weeks

Xmas provisions - where can I find...

Saw pudding at Quicaillerie Hogg as well as Holt Renfrew. They also had some at Fouvrac on Laurier 2 weeks ago

Food events (2010)

I showed up at 1 pm sharp and waited in line for 10 minutes. I was able to do the round before it got really crowded and crazy. I got really great stuff but am now wondering who will eat all of them. Can you freeze cupcakes?

D&G Supermarket, Swatow Plaza, Chinatown?

I've been a few times since it's close to home. Very busy after office hours. Prices are similar to Hawaii where I used to go. They don't have as big of a selection but so far I've found everything I was looking for.

Last minute dinner near Hotel PUR Quebec City tonight

Cafe du clocher penche, on St Joseph, a 2 min walk from the hotel

Restaurant Openings - 2010

Marc-Andre Jette and Patrice Demers opening their own restaurant in October. It will be called 400 coups and will be in the old Le Resident location in Old Montreal.

Buvette Chez Simone

I go there every week with a group and we often order the full chicken and was never disappointed. It was always moist, it comes with lots of potatoes and a very good garlicky sauce. I also enjoy the accras de morue but I think they are 3$ each if not more which is quite expensive. They come with a really tasty curry aioli. It's not always on the menu but if they have the cheese "bouton de culotte", it's a must. It's a goat cheese marinated in balsamic vinegar. To give you an idea of the price, last time I was there, we had 2 bottles of wine, the chicken, duck liver pate, chorizo, 2 types of cheese, 6 accras and the bill came up to 160$. As far as atmosphere goes, it is usually very crowded and noisy, if you go early, (5pm) you can probably grab a table on the patio.

Best Boudin in Montreal?

Bought some morcilla at Librairie Espagnole a while ago. Not sure if they carry it all the time
