Thanksgiving in Key West
On second thought, Thanksgiving dinner at Blue Heaven would absolutely be a memorable event.

Thanksgiving in Key West
1) Email or phone restaurant for info on Thanksgiving.
2) Haven't gone in 3 years, but our favorites are (in order): La Trattoria, Santiago's Bodega, Square One, Antonia's, Mangoes for dinner. Loved La Te Da, but heard chef Alice Weingarten had left, a huge negative.
For breakfast: Camille’s, Blue Heaven, Sarabeth's. All are within walking distance of Duval Gardens.
3) Hmmm. Conch Chowder and Key Lime Pie perhaps.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Anniversary dinner in Key West
We always go to La Trattoria on Duval St. on our 1st night in KW. Call them up, tell them it's your anniversary, and get one of the two small tables located in each window alcove. It’s like your own private table facing Duval St. Great food, service, and best martinis on the planet (in our humble opinion). We haven't been there in 4 years, so I hope these tables are still there. After dinner, walk over to Better Than Sex Restaurant on Petronia St. for dessert – not too far – about 3-4 blocks.
Happy Anniversary....

BURNING TREE-- Bar Harbor
Agree. We've been to Burning Tree about 4 times - 1st meal was great , way back in th 80's, then downhill since then. Won't go back - too many good spots in the area - Red Sky in SW Harbor is our favorite.

Friends' Dinner in Key West
Santiago's Bodega was one of our favorites last time in KW. Small plates very well prepared beer and wine. Low key atmosphere, tables out or in. Very inexpensive for KW. La Trattoria is our all time favorite Italian spot, great martinis and food, more upscale. Even more upscale - Louie's has opened an addition to their main restaurant - haven’t been there yet, but seems to be a bit more laid back. If you liked Louie’s, go back.

Bar Harbor Dining
Just found out Maggie's closed this year and was replaced by Fathom. Lobster crepes at Maggie's were great - too bad. Fathom has gotten some decent write-up on Tripadvisor, not the most reliable source of restaurant reviews, but some got into good detail.

Anyone been there yet?
Bar Harbor Dining
Tahini Dressing
1" piece of fresh ginger chopped fine
3T Tahini
3T Tamari
3 cloves garlic
1/2 cup veg. oil
1/2 olive oil
juice of 1 lemon
Blend
That's what is written on the paper, but... I used 1 cup olive oil instead of the half and half mix. This is a great deal of dressing, but it can be saved in the 'fridge for future use
Bar Harbor Dining
First went to Burning Tree in the 1980's when it opened. One room, organic, vegetarian, and fish served. I remember commenting about how we all loved the salad dressing - 5 minutes later, the waitress came out with the hand written recipe for it. Still have it - it's a garlic ginger thing - very good.
Has seemed to have grown quite a bit since then - not for the better, unfortunately.

Bar Harbor Dining
Might be too late, but here's some of our favorites in Bar Harbor:
Red Sky (Southwest Harbor) Great food - worth the drive
Maggies for the Lobster Crepes (has seen better days, but those crepes are great)
Mache Bistro - small, quiet, good food
Burning Tree (a bit ouside of BH)
Havana (OK food and service, but don't believe all the hype)
Cafe This Way for Breakfast or Dinner (very low-key, funky, fun, good food)
2 Cats for breakfast (same as above)
Breakfast place on Main st - forgot the name, but decent food with locals
Will be trying on our return in Sept:
Looking Glass at the Bluenose Inn
Reading Room -Bar Harbor Inn
XYZ in SW Harbor - Mexican
That about all that come to mind right now,
Have a great trip

Pleasanton eats
Will be staying at the Four Points on Hopyard Rd in a few weeks. Only problem is that I'm not renting a car and will have to walk in the general vicinity of the hotel. Checking out Google maps, the closest places are Eddie Papa's, Chili's (don't think that's the chain) and Kinders, any of which is perfectly acceptable providing food is about a 5 or above on a scale of 1-10. Thanks for any suggestions besides take a cab.
Looking for Restaurants near Argonne National Lab
Will be visiting the Lab soon and I'd appreciate any good dining spots within a short drive . I looked at a similar post from January, 2007 that had positive reviews of the following places:
Cebu, Uncle Bub's, Dell Rhea's, Pappadeux, and Katy's Dumpling House. Any comments or updates would be greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU.
Sanibel Island Restaurant Help
Mad Hatter has been called pricey a lot on these boards. That implies that the food is very good, but not THAT good to justify the cost. Example: Plain salads over $15, Simple Pasta Entrees over $30. Also when you've enjoyed a great meal and get the check and do a double take at the total. So, in effect, Mad Hatter has got to get real.
Sanibel Island Restaurant Help
Going to S.I. in about a month and desperately need dining advice. While trolling through past boards, I've noticed a few names that keep on popping up - but I'd like to narrow it down to 2 criteria: 1) 'Romantic' (i.e. Cocktails without screaming kids), and 2) Relatively Quiet (being able to hold a conversation without raising your voice). My picks so far:
1) Il Tesoro (not mentioned on Chowhound, but menu looks great)
2) Mad Hatter
3) Ellington's
4) Dolce Vita
5) Sweet Melissa's
6) Greenhouse Grill
Our only experience in Fl. dining scene is Key West. Love La Trat, Santiago's, Antonia's, LaTeDa, and Square One.
THANKS
where should we eat in key west?
We really liked the dinner at La Te Da a few weeks ago. Square One has a new 'build your own menu' feature which was interesting. Bad Boy Burrito for lunch was a great find. As mentioned, Santiago's Bodega tapas menu is quite nice.

Key West Recommendations For Long Weekend
915 & Marquesa are both a bit upscale, so why not Santiago's Bodega tonight for a more informal getaway. BTW, food is outstanding. (Wine & Beer only)
6 Nights in Key West
Good point about Marquesa. Last meal there was over 10 years ago and maybe, just maybe, things have changed. Might be that we were staying at the Hotel Marquesa at the time and were put off by the whole concept of paying a hell of a lot of money to stay in a small noisy room overlooking the side of another building. At the time, the Marquesa was hyped as the Ritz-Carlton of Key West. A return visit to the restaurant is a definite maybe.
Thanks.
Driving through the Keys
We're doing the same drive, and picked The Green Turtle Inn in Islamorada based solely on their menu. We just wanted a place to stop for a quick lunch - romantic wasn't a factor..We're saving that for KW!
6 Nights in Key West
We’re going to KW in early Feb – I’d like to list our dining itinerary and would gratefully appreciate any comments, suggestions, etc. We have been to KW about 10 times over the past 15 -20 years, so things might have changed for better or worse. Here goes:
1) La Trattoria – Always has been our ‘first night in Key West’ place – why change now. Also, IMHO, they serve the best Spaghetti Aglio e Olio AND best Martini we’ve ever had. But: We have to have one of the 2 tables in the front windows – without that, the magic is down a few notches.
2) Square One – Nice atmosphere: live piano, food above average (heard new menu), and the host is a hell of a nice guy. This is about as classy as we like to have it when dining down here.
3) Antonia’s – Most folks seem to think this beats La Trat, but we rate it a close second. The seating is kind of a pain: tables too close, space too ‘formal’. We ate upstairs last time there, and that was a big improvement.
4) Mangoes – We come here for the Key Lime Pie at the end of the meal. I know that this is not fine dining by any means, but we always have a good time here. We like to sit in the back.
5) Santiago’s Bodega or Café Sole – never been, but heard good things online. Menu looks interesting in both places.
6) ??? – Your call.
Ate at Opera, Louie’s, Bagatelle, Alice’s, Marquesa, Siboney, Kelly's, MangiaMangia ,Rooftop – didn’t like.
Loved KayRUMba, but that closed years ago. It was nice sitting on the balcony watching the cops bust somebody at the Scrub Club while sipping one of their rum concoctions.
Used to love Blue Heaven, then it became chic.
Breakfast is usually Camille’s, with Blue Heaven and Sarabeth’s thrown in. (Too bad about the Deli Restaurant closing – loved the diner atmosphere). Gotta hand it to Blue Heaven: you can’t find a better order of toast on the island.
Lunch is a fruit smoothie to tide us over. We tend to gain weight with such good food.
There you have it.
Breakfast in Times Square this Sunday
P.S. Roadfood/Diner type place, Homefries, not 'shoestring potato' or 'breakfast potato'.
Breakfast in Times Square this Sunday
Looking for breakfast spot in West 45th area for this Sunday. Thought about Brooklyn Diner or Edison Hotel. Must have superior home fries and above average coffee. Thanks and Happy 2009.

Six Nights in San Fran/Berkeley - HELP!!
Thanks, great choices. Did make a res. for ChezPanisee a few nights ago - thanks for the tip.
Six Nights in San Fran/Berkeley - HELP!!
First time on west coast and desperately need info on SF area dinner spots for 6 nights in mid-October. I've been trolling through Zagat and my mind is getting numb. I think ChezPanisse is an obvious choice for splurging on one of those nights (am I wrong?). What I’m looking for: 1) Price range under $40-$50 each before drinks and tip, 2) Northern Italian at least one night, 3) On the quiet side so dinner conversation can be heard (read: no screaming kids) , and 4) Any cuisine associated to the Bay Area not readily available in the NYC Metro area. Not all 4 in one place, of course, although that would be great.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY GUIDANCE
Bar Harbor area dining
A belated thanks to all for the tasty advice - Here'e the lineup for the 5 nights in BH:
McKay’s Public House
Burning Tree
Maggie’s Classic Scales
Café This Way or Havana
Mache Bistro or Red Sky
Breakfast at 2 Cats, Cafe This Way, and the local diner in town (forgot the name)
Lunch: Fruit Smoothies at the local Health Food Joint
Thanks Again!
Bar Harbor area dining
Heading up to Bar Harbor mid Sept '08 and need some updates on restaurants, not having been there in 7 years. We remember Maggie’s Classic Scales and Burning Tree as most impressive. We were not bowled over by Havana despite 2 visits - it seemed they went out of their way to add as many ingredients to a dish as possible - didn't work. Also remember casual Tex-Mex place Miguel’s that was a major disappointment after previous good visits years prior. Any info on new or improved dining recommendations, especially Italian, in Bar Harbor area will be greatly appreciated.
Looking for Restaurant VERY close to Lincoln Center
Taking mom to see South Pacific at Vivian Beumont Lincoln Center - need a place very close to theater 'cause mom ain't the fastest walker anymore. Thanks Mucho!!
Need dinner suggestion near Theater District...
La Masseria on 48th is a favorite of ours. Good, dependable N. Italian, not too much $$$. Tables in back are quiet, sit near bar up front for more lively atmosphere.
