Blue Plate Oysterette on Ocean (seafood) or Cora's (Californian), also on Ocean.
Visiting from NYC - what's the "best" of the things that aren't great here?
I strongly recommend AGAINST Gladstones and El Cholo - both are pretty awful and there are so many other choices.
I prefer Malibu Seafood to Neptune's Net in Malibu - but if the weather's nice, it's a lovely drive to NN.
Best flourless chocolate cake?
No, it definitely does not need to be kosher. Thanks, Junior's may work out - it sounds delicious!
Best flourless chocolate cake?
What bakery has the best flourless chocolate cake for Passover in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood or mid-city?
Urasawa etiquette?
Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to dine there (yet!), but I'd find it VERY annoying to have my meal disrupted by someone taking photos during the meal. I'm actually surprised Hiro permits it.
In Search of Great Olive Oil..
Guidi Marcello on 10th St in Santa Monica carries a some lovely olive oils at great prices. It's closed on weekends.
Fun/weird / hole-in-the wall / hidden gem spots for brunch or lunch???
I think Malibu Seafood, about a mile north of Pepperdine on PCH has fresher fish but a similar vibe.
DESPERATE NEED OF FOIE GRAS! Please Help With Restaurants...
I recently enjoyed it at Mezze on La Cienega in West Hollywood. I think it was served at room temp.
Need restaurant near Century City but not the most expensive restaurants
I agree. I don't know if it's the quality of the ingredients or their preparation, but I've always left just a little disappointed.
Quiche for Oscar Party???
Josie's sells their mushroom quiche that they serve as an amuse, if you call in advance. I think it's delicious.
Fresh fish in OC or LA and a nice beach nearby?
I think Leo Carrillo is your best bet for tide pools in Malibu. I also think Malibu Seafood has the best fish. It's about a mile past Pepperdine. Closer to Leo Carrillo, but not as good as Malibu Seafood is Neptune's Net. Both are very casual.
Tavern or Josie for quiet dinner on the 23rd?
I've been to Tavern 3 times now. Each time I found the food to be quite average and the service lacking. Love Josie's - consistently great food, ambiance and service.
Venison in LA?
Hmmm. Josie's has always had venison on its menu and it was always fantastic. I can't imagine they'd discontinue it.
No Thanks--Is that a sea bass on your plate?
I think people either love Via Veneto or hate it, depending on the waiter. Luckily, my experiences have all been pleasant. I can't comment on the fish, but I do disagree with your review of the pasta, which I find to be very authentic, and always perfectly cooked and sauced. The linguine with Santa Barbara prawns and bottarga is absolutely delicious.

Lily's Cafe (Malibu) secret sauce/salsa?
I think Lily's has the best hot sauce/salsa in LA - it's even better than Tacos Por Favor's. Are you missing the breakfast burritos? I'm pretty sure they roast the chilis to get that distinctive smokiness. The owners just may tell you what type of pepper they use if you call and explain your circumstances. If you do get any more info please post!

Santa Monica Saturday Night 9 for dinner
You didn't mention a budget, but Josie's or Melisse are both great and conversation isn't a struggle at either.
Santa Monica/Malibu Lunch - With Twin Babies (3 months old)
and it's such a lovely beach.
Sotto - a What the Heck menu
I had an entirely different experience at Picca. Our dinner for 4 was a little over $200 without tip. The service was knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was great. Must admit I didn't try the sushi, but the ceviche, black cod, mussells and paella were delicious.

Oh so bored...anything to excite my taste buds?
I like Fig, but I don't find it exciting. Picca and Barbrix excite my taste buds.

What a great question! Nanbankan or Musha are moderately priced.

Santa Monica/Malibu Lunch - With Twin Babies (3 months old)
Taverna Tony at Cross Creek is pretty baby friendly and you could walk around the country mart afterward. Nearby at the Lumberyard is Cafe Habana. Most places in Malibu seem baby friendly at lunch. I'd recommend Paradise Cove for its on the sand location, but not the food - it's really quite awful.

Anniversary dinner in West LA or Santa Monica
I love the quiche amuse! You can order a whole quiche and/or get the recipe from their website.
Anniversary dinner in West LA or Santa Monica
Good choice! Their venison is delicious.
Disappointing brunch at Joe's
Actually, while the brunch wasn't impressive I did enjoy a dinner there not so long ago. The grilled octopus salad and white fish were delicious.
Disappointing brunch at Joe's
I had the crab hash a couple of months ago and my experience mirrored yours. Unfortunately I didn't ask for my eggs to be firmly poached and the entire dish was a watery disappointment. I think there was a teaspoonful of crab. It's too bad because I really like Joe.
HELP! Need Central/ Southern Coastal California Recs!!
For great Mexican food in dive surroundings try La Super Rica in Santa Barbara. I liked Bouchon for dinner, but it may be over your budget.
In Silver Lake I'd definitely go to Barbrix. It's one of my favorite restaurants in LA. Interesting wines, delicious small plates and lovely owners. Be sure to order any pasta that happens to be on the menu.
