'Healthy Indian' food in sf valley or westside?

thanks! I will give it a try. I am amazed that in LA, which is such a foodie town, no one has tried updating and freshening up Indian a bit more.

'Healthy Indian' food in sf valley or westside?

I LOVE Indian food, but most Indian restaurants seem to douse every dish in ghee or cream based sauces. Is there anywhere that serves the incredible flavors of India without all the fat?
We live in the foothills of the SF Valley, but also spend a lot of time on the Westside. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Right now, our local standby has been the Salomi on Lankershim for their chicken dhansak.

Any Chowish spots in Burbank?

French 75 in Burbank next to Morton's Steakhouse has a great bar and very bistro-ish menu. I good place to hang for awhile and be very comfortable. They also have a patio.
I've had both great and not so amazing meals there. The bar has a great selection of cocktails and French style apertifs...

Where can I buy real Chihuahua cheese?

Have you tried going to Vallarta's cheese counter and asking them?
I found a truly great Monterey Jack from Monterey, Mexico that makes every other Monterey Jack I've had a pale comparison. They might be able to help you on this.

Dining near LA Convention Center

I am an LA native but haven't been downtown lately since all the renovations. I am going to a Convention this week and would love to try out some new places within walking distance as I am going to take the metro there.
Any cool new spots with a great bar or anything exotic is always good. Budget not really an issue as much as good food and atmosphere, though I love cheap eats anytime!
Thanks!

Jersey-style Italian Hero (AKA Sub)

In the San Fernando Valley, the best sub I have had is at La Italia in North Hills at the corner of SFMisson and Balboa. It is truly old school and they bake their own bread there daily. My son still says if he can't ever have another sub in his life, this will be the ONE! I agree. The capiccola, finocchio salami, the amazing bread and the gracious people at La Italia make it worth the trip. Get in line, though...It is hardly ever NOT crowded, unless you are there first thing in the morning for the capuccinos and biscotti.

SM/West LA - good cheap catered food?

Also try Monte Alban on SM Blvd in West LA. You can order large takeout orders and have an amazing Mexican feast in the park for not too much. The food is amazing and quite reasonable.

What is good at Porto's?

The chocolate cake there is unbelievable!! Yes, the papas rellenos, too. I also love the empanadas. The guava pastries are the best ever and always a huge hit when I bring a box of these to my office. mmmm

Sushi for a group in Little Tokyo

My son is turning 18 and LOVES sushi. I would love to gather a group of his friends and family for a sit down sushi experience, possibly in a tatami room. Ideally, the meal would also include some cooked Japanese specialties as well, but we all really love excellent sushi. Some of our other favorites include Sushi Gen and Nishi-ya in Glendale but I don't think either of these has places for a group to sit in a private room.

Any suggestions are really welcome!
Thanks!

Is there a great steak in the valley?

I want a great steak and a good cocktail to enjoy with a friend. Could be chic or old school, I don't care. I just want the quality to be good and not cost a fortune. Any tips?

A great steak in Sherman Oaks?

I am looking to meet a friend for a good steak somewhere close to the 405 and 101 in the valley? Any suggestions? A good martini would be nice too.

Where to buy guava preserves or puree anywhere in Los Angeles?

Golden Farms on San Fernando Rd. just east of Western in Glendale has guava puree in the freezer section. I also buy the passion fruit and mango puree there. You might also try the Vallarta supermarkets, but if you are in Glendale, then this is the spot.

Good delivery food in Burbank?

I am going to have to stay at St. Joseph's next week for at least a few days and am wondering if anyone can suggest good quality, healing foods from restaurants that deliver or do take-out. Good soups, healthy, light fare preferred. Healing food does not seem to be the hospital's forte. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Post-Dodgers Game Snack

Try the Red Lion Tavern on Glendale Blvd. for great German food and beer. It has been around for a long time, and the food is good and hearty, the atmosphere totally old school and dark and cool. Though I am not sure how late they are open. Probably at least till 10 or 11.

Need Pots and Pans Advice Please!

a small copper saucepan is alway good to have on hand for making candy and such. Otherwise, for whatever you think you will use the most on a daily basis, All Clad is great and will stand the test of time.

Mother's Day meal in Redondo Beach?

Looking for a good spot to have a decent meal in Redondo Beach, either brunch or dinner for Mother's Day? Any ideas? Price is not an issue, but a good view and atmosphere is a definite plus. Well, that and good food.

Sushi Nishi-ya in Glendale

I have eaten at Sushi NIshi-ya 3 or 4 times since discovering it and I can't say enough good about the quality of the fish. Kenji and his wife are most hospitable and they serve both sake and beer. By far, the best sushi I've had in Los Angeles in quite sometime and that includes Matsuhisa and SushiGen in Little Tokyo. I am so happy to have this gem in my neighborhood!

Martini's & Appetizers?

Spark Woodfire Grill on Ventura has great martinis and more hearty appetizers, but the bar is pretty small, just a few seats. If you can go farther east to Burbank, French 75 has a great bar with good martinis and great appetizers.
