Need Italian food/catering for a bridal shower - suggestions?
I have used Bob's and it is OK I prefer La Molisana, they are new to Kendall Square, but have been in the restaurant business for years-plus they have handmade fresh pasta. I have used them for catered events for work and been very happy and they deliver for free!
Nice dinner in St. Louis
I am looking for a nicer restaurant in St. Louis for my boss and guests near the Renaissance GrandHotel on Washington St. in mid-April. Nearby is ideal but taking a short cab ride would be fine too.
Open to anything so long as all my bases are covered-vegetarian/fish/meat options. If it helps we are from Boston.
Thanks.
Food shopping in Dorchester
You definitely have to check out Dorchester Market referred to above as Gene and Pat's(that is the old sign from prior owners they kept for nostalgia) at Dot Ave and East Cottage. Both current owners Kevin and Peter are butchers-their meat is fresher and cheaper than any supermarket, plus they have fresh fish every Thursday. They will cut to order, right now they are featuring their house cured corned beef. They also carry the best Italian sausages from a local company in E. Boston. Oh and they deliver for free locally.
Their veg selection is very limited and just OK-try to go in on Thurs/Fri when they just get it in. I prefer to buy all my meat, fish and deli meat there-and organic milk.
Also check out the new pizza place on the next block across from Eagle Liquors ( my other local vendor who is great) can't remember the name right now but depending on who is making the pizza it is the closest I have ever come to NY pizza-we had a slice yesterday that tasted just as good as Stella's of Watertown.
Worth mentioning are the Vietnamese restaurants in Field's corner.
Welcome to the neighborhood!

Oysters for a first timer?
Where should I take someone for their first ever oyster experience? While I don't care for Legals I do like their wine flight specifically for oysters-I really want to show him the whole experience. Just please no Fanueil Hall suggestions.
Breakfast catering near Kendall
I work at MIT and love using Carberry's. Very reasonable, good and reliable. Contact Brent, he will take good care of you.
Lunch in Hartford w/in-laws
We would love to find a local place to eat for lunch with the in-laws this
Sunday. Just good food, reasonabley priced. Brunch OK. Vegetarian options would be great, a restaurant that supports local farmers would be fantastic.
Alcohol a must-it is the in-laws.........
Osaka Shabu opening in Fields Corner
We went this past weekend too and will be back! Great food and top notch service. The waiter took the time to explain the concept and how we should cook the food. We ordered "Surf'n'Turf" which was seafood and a choice of one meat. This consisted of salmon, cod, shrimp, scallops and fish cake and we choose a side of pork-which was 8 slices of thinly sliced pork. We choose two broths: house and schezuan. The whole thing came with a huge plate of vegs, udon noodles and even some vermecilli. Plus there were side dishes of garlic, hot peppers, asian BBQ and soy sauce to make your own dipping sauce.
We didn't realize there was a la carte until after so then we ordered a side of dumplings to cook too. The entire check (we also got gyoza to start) was $31!! And they brought out a complimentary dessert of tapioca pudding with toro root-very cooling after the spicey schezuan.
They also had oysters which surrounding tables were eating, but we were too full, next time though!!

Indian Catering near MIT?
Does anyone know of a good Indian Restaurant that can deliver catering to MIT? So far I have tried and been disappointed with:
Guru-too bland and carb heavy
Punjabi- good but small portions
India Castle-terrible service
Thanks!
Prepared trays of Italian food?
any suggestions for good already prepared Italian specialties such as chicken parm, meatballs, lasagne, ziti and sauce that would just need reheated and served? Somerville, Cambridge area would be great and I will be in East Boston tomorrow.
Thanks,
Cafe Sushi-has anyone tried it?
I am curious if anyone has tried Cafe Sushi-esp for sushi platters to be delivered. Thks! if anyone has a better recommendation in the Cambridge area I would appreciate it.
Steaks from grass fed cows
Ashmont Grille has a veg-fed flat iron steak and hamburger-it is the only place I will eat it-otherwise I end up and Wholefoods and make it myself.
Catering near MIT?
I am looking for recommendations on good, reliable caterers. Mainly for a cocktail party-ideally we need finger food dropped off for 50. I also need suggestions for a fancier buffet style dinner for 20. My only request is there are vegetarian options.
Thanks!
Where to go in Portland, Maine...Dinner & Breakfast?
We have tried both 555 and Fore Street and 555 was the outright winner for food, service and atmosphere. We go there quite often. If Local 188 has reopened mid-July as planned definitley check it out. Spanish influence with lots of small plates so you can sample lots! My husband and I get a bottle of wine and dinner for $100 or under. We were there almost every Saturday when they were open!
For breakfast, check out Bayou Kitchen they do great Cajun food as well as the
standard breakfast fare. My personal favourite is the Heurvos Rancheros. Check out Big Sky Bakery afterwards across the street, or go there for lunch later (they also have a location on Congress St but no seating but you can sit outside). Great pannis and interesting soups and sandwiches all served on their homemade bread.
If you want to go where the locals go check out J's Oysters nothing fancy but cheap, fresh and good.
Dinner at Clio last night
Absolutely not, though my husband did since he had the duck. I had a very well paired merlot.
Dinner at Clio last night
The menu said Merlusa, which the waiter described as a European hake. The sauce was a garlic pesto dotted around the plate, while the fish itself was covered in his "foam."
Dinner at Clio last night
My husband and I went for dinner last night to Clio for his birthday. While the food was good, we felt like we were paying for the honor to dine there, not for quality food or service.
I found multiple bones in my fish, which I know happens but when you are served a 4oz portion of fish divided in 2 at $40 it is unacceptable. The server brought me a white wine when I ordered a red (after a lengthy discussion of a pairing with the food) and then the more expensive white was still on the cheque at the end.
The food presentation definitely reflects the fact that Ken Oringer trained at the Culinary Institute of America as a Pastry Chef-all the foam and fluff and drizzles of this and that on the plate is how he was trained to serve desserts. When you get the food you have no recollection of what you ordered.
There are a lot more excellent restaurants in Boston without the attitude and fluff. We will not be back.
What to have at Clio
Can we order that while dining at Clio's or we would have to start at Uni?
What to have at Clio
My husband and I are going to Clio next Tuesday for his birthday-what do you recommend?
The tasting menu?
Ashmont Grille-menu change for the better!
Went to Ashmont Grille last night for those train wreck fries and was pleasantly suprised to find they have gotten rid of their ridiculous a la carte menu. The chicken now comes with potatoes and asparagus for $18 and the sandwiches come with fries.
Plus there were some new menu items. The only one I remember is the smoked bluefish pate appetizer. Definitely worth checking out again.
