Help Picking Restaurant on Peachtree, Atlanta

I'm pretty sure Cuerno is closed. Sadly, as it was a good place.

Shrimp and grits in ATL?

It's closer to downtown than the airport but I love the shrimp & grits at JCT Kitchen - extra bonus for the egg on top. See info and menu at: http://www.jctkitchen.com/index.html
They also have JCT Bar depending on the time.

Downtown Atlanta for one special meal

Floataway Cafe & Top Flr come to mind. Neither is really fancy but both have great food. Floataway may be better setting for your special occasion.

Atlanta: Sushi-grade fish, butcher?

If you're specifically wanting to make homemade sushi, try the Buford Hwy Farmer's Market (just north of 285 on BuHi), near the Korean prepared foods section they have raw sushi grade fish ready to roll or shape into sushi.

Seafood in Atlanta

Try Fontaine's Oyster bar in Virginia Highlands for something a little more laid back (bar w/ back patio & good steamed/fried seafood).

Atlanta Bday Dinner Recs

Holeman & Finch supposed to be wonderful although I've heard it gets very crowded & no reservations taken. I definitely recommend JCT for Sunday Supper. I've been there only during the week for dinner & lunch but have been dying to try the Sunday Supper also!

Rovinj, Istria/Salzburg/Ljubljana/Prague/Vienna Recs

Thank you very much. I look forward to your additional Ljubljana recs if you have time.

Rovinj, Istria/Salzburg/Ljubljana/Prague/Vienna Recs

Hello, We (young, adventurous couple) will be vacationing in Rovinj, Croatia in early September, looking for good food, especially regional cuisine that is not too expensive. Any advice for Rovinj and surrounding area (will be driving from Soca, Slovenia) would be appreciated. We are also making stops in Salzburg, Ljubljana, Prague and Vienna if anyone has recommendations in those cities (I've seen the earlier posts re: Vienna, Prague and Salzburg but would love to have some additional recommendations). Thank you!

Charlotte Vietnamese & Thai & Indian

Saigon Palace on South Blvd. for Vietnamese - see my blog post: http://amyonfood.blogspot.com/2009/06/saigon-palace-in-charlotte.html
Also love Monsoon Thai, also on South Blvd. Try the papaya salad, mee krob (here these are lettuce wraps) curried shrimp special on the back of the menu and the sticky rice dessert.

Flip Burger Boutique - ATL

It's a fun place, although reviews on the food have been mixed. I enjoyed the butcher cut burger, the poy 'burger (friend shrimp) and several of the sides. The caesar salad side was great. Also enjoyed the nutella milkshake.

Dad's Birthday in Atlanta

Repast, Rathbun's, 4th & Swift, Floataway Cafe

Reasonable family eats in downtown Atlanta

Daddy D'z BBQ, Pasta da Pulcinella, F2O (fresh to order), Busy Bee Cafe (may close early in the evenings). I 2nd Rolling Bones (they were just bought out and may have a new menu soon, though).

Fried Green Tomatoes in Atlanta?

Mary Mac's is overrated IMHO - very touristy and when I dined there I didn't find the food all that great. I love the fried green tomatoes at West Egg Cafe: http://www.westeggcafe.com/ If you're there on the weekend try the weekend brunch special, the Peachtree Plate.

Saturday Brunch in Roanoke

I'll be staying at Hotel Roanoke this weekend for a wedding. Looking for a great Sunday brunch spot within walking distance of the hotel. Any tips?

Bubble Tea in Atlanta

My favorite is at Pho Dai Loi #2 at 4186 Buford Hwy NE. They also serve great pho and fresh spring rolls. I always get the green tea bubble tea smoothie :)

Best Bakery in Atlanta?

Alon's (VaHi and Dunwoody locations), Atlanta Cupcake Factory, Button Cakes Cupcakes, West Egg Cafe, Cafe Mozart (Korean bakery w/ multiple locations including Buford Hwy). Details on many of these may be found on my blog http://amyonfood.blogspot.com Look at the recent Button Cakes post and click on "Bakery" to read more posts about bakeries.

Hope this helps!

Vietnamese in Atlanta

I love Pho Dai Loi #2 on Buford Hwy. See my blog post here:

http://amyonfood.blogspot.com/2008/05/vietnamese-fresh-and-tasty.html

Great pho, fresh spring rolls, vermicelli & rice dishes. Also try their green tea bubble tea smoothie. Prices are low and service is quick!

Chattanooga - kid-friendly Sun. Brunch/Lunch?

Hi, I am traveling to Chattanooga on April 26 (Sun.). We will have 4 adults, an 18 month old and a 6 year old. Both children are well behaved & used to eating in restaurants. Any suggestions for lunch or brunch? We plan to visit the aquarium after lunch. Any tips on that would be appreciated also.

4 nights in Atlanta, some help with where to eat? We've got some in mind...

Another good one is JCT Kitchen (near Bacchanalia and Star Provisions) Just had a great dinner there on Friday but lunch is also good. It's upscale Southern. For my blog post see:
http://amyonfood.blogspot.com/2009/04/jct-still-awesome.html
The shrimp & grits there are outstanding.

I'm glad you are avoiding Mary Mac's (more hype than anything). If you have specific questions you can email me through the blog!

Flip burgers (richard blais)

Apparently they did not open as scheduled. See: http://adventuroustastes.blogspot.com/2008/12/flip-is-not-open-tonight.html

I'm looking forward to trying it when they finally do open!

Charlotte Ethnic with a baby.

Saigon Palace on South Blvd. is excellent and you'll be comfortable with a baby there. It's a large place and I've never seen it full, but it is really great. Try the yellow pancake with shrimp and pork, the fresh spring rolls (not fried) and the pho.

Lang Van is also great but much smaller.

I second Monsoon Thai (also on South Blvd). Their lettuce wraps are great and I like the shrimp in curry sauce - one of their specials.

Kid-Friendly Asheville?

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I had dinner at Tupelo Honey a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Sounds like it warrants a return visit.

Kid-Friendly Asheville?

I am going to be traveling with one well-behaved 5 year old in the Asheville area over Thanksgiving. What are the best kid-friendly, foodie spots in town? This would be for the weekend after Turkey day, not for the Thanksgiving meal. We love all ethnic foods and anything unique and off the beaten track. Thanks :)

Virginia BBQ

Pierces near Williamsburg - try JC's special!

Unique Restaurant Recs for Atlanta?

Here are a few:

Agnes & Muriels on Monroe Dr. - casual Southern food in a nostalgic atmosphere. They have a great brunch. See: http://www.mominthekitchen.com/

If you like ethnic, go up 85 and take the Buford Hwy. exit. Keep going straight - the further you get, the more ethnic places there are - even outside of 285 loop. Try Panahar Bangladeshi: www.panahar.com

Good BBQ in a blues, very casual setting - the neighborhood can be a little unsettling at night but once you try the ribs, mac & cheese and brunswick stew you will forget all about it - delish - Daddy Dz: www.daddydz.com

Salt and Pepper Shrimp in Atlanta?

Yes it is wonderful at Little Szechuan - I also love their Salt and Pepper Squid. Delicious!

Atlanta (Buford Hwy) - Machu Picchu?

Went there last weekend. Had a good tomato-broth seafood soup (as entree) - most of the other seafood is fried - and my boyfriend enjoyed the beef stew. The place is pretty basic but definitely worth a try if you'd like to experience true Peruvian. They also have ceviche, which sounded wonderful and is what I want to try when I go back. We also tried one of the cookies they keep by the cash register - two kind of mildly sweet sugar cookies held together with a wonderful filling. Let me know what you think if you try it!

Bentley's on 27 in Charlotte?

Definitely a special place with great views. I found the food to be good but definitely pricey. They have a very traditional menu with several tableside preparations if you like that and the service was also very good.

Gelato in Charlotte???

Try Dolce Ristorante in Dilworth:
