Need a place with a meeting room
Hello, I am having a meeting and I need to find a restaurant near campus that will have a little meeting room for about 10ppl. Doesn't need to be high end food, just good. Thanks for any recommendations!

Thanks for the great explanations, purple gator. We are heading over there friday from Austin and this board has been SO GREAT in recommending places! I will take some of your recs, too.
Take care!

To all, thanks for the continued ideas. Looks like we will need to stay longer! Keep them coming! ;)
Brian,
These are great links and look like great finds. What would be your most favorite (nothing Mexican, please...we have pretty good Mexican here in Texas). But, anything else... what would be your favorite?

This is great! Please keep in coming, I have heard about this LES tour, too! I am noting all of what you guys are saying and THANK YOU SO MUCH! I can't wait to eat as much as I can in your city! ;)
Please let me know if there is anything else, I don't leave until Friday.
Thank you, again!

Yes, we are so excited! We are actually a group of chefs... that being said, I am not a food snob. We have our reservations at Per Se, so we are stoked about that... but, we are also looking for some different experiences. Doesn't have to be high end, but it can be. For different or unique experiences, I would say restaurants with unique ingredients, unique shops for hard to find ingredients, restaurants with something so amazing that you just have to tell us about it, places that are unique with their order processes, foods, etc.
THank you so much in advance, we are looking forward to it coming from Austin, Texas!

So, we are heading to NY next week for a week of glutonous and amazing cuisine from street fare to per se. My question is what are some of the most unique food experiences in NY. Doesn't have to be fancy, but can be... only stipulation is that it must be unique and GOOD!
Thanks in advance!

What are your favorites at Fiesta?
Anything from the International Aisles! I buy all my Asian ingredients over there. They have great prices on sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, etc. Also, buy empanada shells, queso fresco, chorizo, etc. I love that place!
Bess's Bistro Revisited
Please try the salad with fried egg on it... OMG... it is one of the best salads I have ever had. It comes with a warm bacon vinaigrette and with the yolk of the egg ozzing on the salad.... it just makes for a creamy sauce of the lettuce. Hmmmm... SOOO good!
Reviews on the Bourdain Paramount Show?
yea... that is what he told us too about literally being in Austin for like hrs or something. I kinda had the thought of bringing his some breakfast tacos to the airport...but, that is a little weird.
I will say our group brought him a shot as he was signing books and we all took a shot with him. Not something that I would normally do, but hey.. that is just what you do with anthony bourdain!
Thanks for clarifying on Red Hook and I do remember that episode, didn't realize that it was Red Hook, NY. Thanks for your help with that.

So, let me preface this with...earlier in the show he was talking about street food. And, you should eat street food, wherever you go... well, assuming the street vendor is busy.
Later, he was talking about NY and the best restaurants in NY. We are heading to NY in Dec and I was curious as to what he thought were he his favorite NY street vendor foods.
Needless to say, he mentioned the dirty water hot dogs... which, I could only imagine as Sabretts. Not my favorite. He did mention one... Red Hook? or something of the sorts... I am planning on researching. I know they have an annual street vendor foods awards in NY!

We loved him. While I don't always agree with what he says 100%, at least he says it and doesn't have any regrets about it. Could he be a little less rude? Yea... but, that is just him. I guess I kinda take him with a grain of salt for some reason. =)
I loved his talks about his travels and different food experiences. II thought the audience questions were ok... a few funny ones. I got one in, which was kinda cool. I thought it was neat that he was just taking questions and I loved that he did the book signing.
Overall..cool experience. I would definately go again! ;)
bachelorette party of 20- help!
With 219 they have HH on Saturday's even from 5-9pm, so that will assist with your budget situation. Half off all apps and drink specials... Have fun!
Last Minute Anniversary Help
I have eaten at both and HANDS DOWN.. Starlite will not disappoint. And, one of the best things about it is that when they are done eating, they are in the middle of warehouse district and can continue the evening party-ing or having more drinks!
Help with first Austin Trip!
I have to say (and i know I have said it before....) gotta give props to Rounder's Pizzeria.... In my opinion the best pizza in austin! YUM.. and dont forget the cannoli for dessert.
Have to go to Doc Motorworks, help!
I whole heartedly agree... it would be such a better place if they served at least passable food. Maybe you can take a like a clif bar with you or something.
Hut's
I Must say, though... I appreciate that they have a buffalo burger option that is slightly healthier than the ground beef they use (I am sure). Does anyone know any where else that they serve a buffalo burger?
thanks!
GOOD Homemade Tortillas
Thanks for the information, guys! Soy Mexicana, so... yea.... es muy importante para me. BUT, I seem to just keep trying different places in hopes that one will surprise me with their over the top veijita-making tortillas. I will post once I find one that I like ;) And, please do the same! Happy Eating.
Austin breakfast and dinner options
I second Polvo's and Wink. I know that there are mixed ideas on Wink, But I have personally only had really good experiences there. I would also recommend checking out Whold Foods downtown, just because it is super neat just to see all the things that they have.... I personally like to stop off at the chocolate fountain and have a chocolate coated smore.... Hmmmm!
GOOD Homemade Tortillas
Chuckles, good question. It is often easier to tell when the tortillas are for sure not homemade, as an off flavor that tastes like preservatives (try a store bought tortilla), will usually come forth and you can smell it. That being said, there are some good-to average tortillas that are made with machines (ie. Centrall Markets). These beat not having the real thing, in a pinch.
I dont mind making them.... when I have the time. But, lets face it, I dont always have the time OR patience!
I grew up eating homemade tortillas and in Houston, they are so easy to find. Not such good luck in here in Austin. Like for corn tortillas, usually I prefer the thicker ones. And, they taste like...well, ground corn. So good! And for the flour, there are a few types, I prefer mine dough-y and thick. So thick and fluffy you can even just eat them by themselves.... maybe a lil butter or cream cheese. But, that is a whole other topic! What can I say... they are just good!
Thanks to all for recommendations, if you guys have any more... please do share! ;)
GOOD Homemade Tortillas
I am looking for some GOOD homemade flour and corn tortillas. I am willing to drive and pay for a place that consistently makes them. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!
enoteca: not very good...
I am surprised that no one (I think) has commented on their mussels. I have to say I really enjoy enoteca.... specifically their mussels. I could seriously eat that for a meal. AND, while I am not a panna cotta girl, the lemon panna cotta is really nice. =)
Food options in NW Austin/Cedar Park
Texican is not bad and considering its location (loaded with chains), it is worth going to. They have good salsa and Tortilla soup. Yes, I base my likeliness of Tex Mex restaurants with Tortilla soup... if you make a bad one, well... that leads to a bad meal about 95% of the time. Hahaha....
I too, like Midori, Shandez & Tino's....
Capitol Brasserie Redux?
Thanks for the info... which leads me to the next question.. where can I find a GOOD croque monsieur in town?
happy hour / food recommendations
I am a big fan of....
- 219 West- 5-9pm 1/2 of apps and great drink specials
- Malaga- great special w/glass of wine & tapas for $6-ish
- Saba- 1/2 of certain apps and drink specials
- Eddie V's- already mentioned above
Reverse HH-
- Pluckers has $2 top shelf drinks after 9pm
- Jeffery's has specials after 9 (I believe)
Capitol Brasserie Redux?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew about what they were doing with Capitol Brasserie. I know it got bought out and I thought that it would re-open as CB, but I drove by to find Asian-inspired front to it. So, two questions... does anyone know if CB will open elsewhere (I loved their Croque Monsier!) and second, does anyone know what the new restaurant will be? Thanks!
Best Tres Leches cake in Austin
Ok, so you have to try Marta's Tres Leches. I am not sure where it is all located, but I know for sure it is in the frozen section of Central Market. Despite its being frozen, it is extremely moist and I love the fluffy icing. I would have never considered it, until I tried a sample. Trust me, it is very good! YUM!
Soul Food in Austin?
Ok, at Gene's the po-boys are great. He is from NO, so he does know cajun food pretty well. At Tony's, you MUST try the fried chicken and waffles... yum!
As for Ben's. I would definately recommend the mutton. I know, I know what you are thinking... mutton. But, it is surprisingly good. And, I am not a big lamb eater. Just something different to try. Haven't been to Lola's, yet, looks like I will need to check it out! ;)
