The Jar looks good!

Melisse on Saturday, Friday night??

Thank you, we did not want to do a lengthy tasting menu on Friday. I will have to call Angelini, could not get an OT reservation past 5:45.

Melisse on Saturday, Friday night??

Thank you and yes we plan on leaving early on Saturday. Melisse is our LA destination for the "foie for all" menu, my husband's food mistress.

Melisse on Saturday, Friday night??

You nailed it..I am looking for delicious vs interesting/showy. I cancelled The Bazaar and spouse was not intrigued by RM.

Melisse on Saturday, Friday night??

Dear LA CH's, I would love your input for a Friday night dinner suggestion near the Four Season in BH. Saturday night we are going Melisse and I have a reservation for Friday at The Bazaar, but my dear husband is not sold on it. We would both agree on fantastic Italian or a great steak. I am also intrigued by the menu at Red Medicine. Thank you

Calm. Quiet. Warm. Peaceful. Soft. Care. Slow. Refined. Hushed. Candlelight.

The wine room at Kitchen 1540 seats 10, it was perfect,. Also Cavaillon.

Kitchen 1540 – 20 Dishes, 10 Courses – White Flag Tasting Menu

Yes I was there last week, had the sweetbreads as an appetizer and the rabbit as a main dish. Both were delicious, especially the rabbit. Came back and told hubby that I want to go back for the White Flag dinner (now on the menu).

Cavaillon

we had 7 pm reservations for 6 people (2 kids) and i think most of the tables were filled. I forgot to mention the petit filet and frittes he prepared for my 5 year old daughter was perfectly medium rare and very delicious. The bread and truffle were very good as well. The savory foie preparation is really amazing..foie, quail egg, bacon and lentils...we had 2 orders. I would go back again for sure and service was really perfect. Next time I am getting the turbot, I had the lamb shank but I had entree envy.

Cavaillon

We went there last week and I would try it again before a full-review. My favorite dishes were the foie gras and the turbot, the rest were all right. Overall I did not leave with that OMG feeling like I did before. We had a reservation for a Friday night and had not problem with the service and the wait.

Foie Gras and Black Truffles

You can buy foie gras at Bristol Farms in La Jolla, T&H Prime Meats in San Marcos.

Do I want to move to San Diego?

No problem, come back here when you are looking for a place to eat in your postdoc area.. UCSD or Torrey Pines..not many options but the Food Trucks are improving the dining scene. BTW...the biotech sector IS struggling..BUT.. even more of a reason to choose a fantastic postdoc opportunity for the future.

Do I want to move to San Diego?

I love San Diego and I moved here for a postdoc (industry) 9 years ago, you will have more "disposable" postdoc money living here versus the bay area. The food scene is plentiful and LA is driving/train distance. To extend that disposable $$ I would move away from the UCSD area..you will find better restaurants.

Duck and lamb stock in San Diego

Tip Top in Carlsbad has duck, lamb, veal and chicken demi glace in the frozen section. looks like a large chocolate bar...around $12. was looking at the duck yesterday but i purchased 12 duck legs to make confit instead.

Need a great place for group lunch in Riverside, CA

Ancho's

Help! Any Chowhounder know if Chino Farms is open 7/4??

I live in San Marcos and I buy the meat at T&H Prime Meats and fish at Fish House Vera Cruz, also in SM. Fish is always fresh. The farmers' market in Vista is open on the 4th and you will find some fine produce there. cannot compare to the Gucci farms stand..aka Chino Farms, one of my favorite places to shop. Tip Top in carlsbad has a great meat selection but T&H is close and they have great prime meats...IFF they do not run out for the 4th BBQs. I was at Chino's 2 weeks ago on Sunday and there was quite a line. The corn is fantastic and the strawberries are divine. The cavaillon melons are also worth the splurge.

Bread flour in San Diego

My Ralph's (North County) always has KA bread flour, the blue bag. I usually buy 2-3 bags.

What to eat around Torrey Pines

I am back working in the Torrey Pines area..where can one get a decent lunch?? I ate at the Burnham and the Scripps cafeteria and I admit Scripps was not bad. Had the Korean rice bowl on Monday and it was quite tasty. I am willing to drive, I would love to be closer to the Convoy area but that is a bit of a treck.

New Farmer's Market-Little Italy SD

I am looking forward to a Sunday morning in Bonsall. I usually go to the Vista market but sometimes I am not ready by 11 am.
i hear there will be a cheese vendor (same as Vista), olive oil, and meat. I am looking forward to the meat and olive oil.

Does good artisan bread exist in San Diego?

sadly we do not have a good place for nice crusty French baguettes in San Marcos... I like the ones at Bristol Farms in La Jolla. Market St. bakery in restaurant row has the best croissants though...
Oh...almost forgot... you can get a nice baguette at the French bakery in Escondido..downtown on Grand.

Does good artisan bread exist in San Diego?

I live in San Marcos too...you can get Bread and Cie at Sprouts in the Grand Plaza Shopping Center. For decent sourdough I got to Boudin SF in the same shopping center.

Are any of the restaurants at the Temecula wineries worth it?

I think Cafe Champagne is nice but not worth it...maybe a cheese course while wine tasting. I have been to a couple other restaurants and they were not impressive.

San Clemente for lunch??

Thank you everyone... I was afraid of the Fisherman's since it is the holiday weekend and I thought parking would be tricky. We went to Beach Fire and the food was good but my Patron cadillac margarita was DIVINE!! I was shocked when they served it in a plastic cup and my hubby got his beer in a glass. Whatever..i was insulted and was about to go and complain until I tasted it and it was soooo nice and strong. It was clear there was a liberal pour in there.
We started with nice and crispy sweet potato fries and seared ahi. Both nice.
I had the standard fish tacos...OK.
Overall it was a nice meal, the kids did great and we enjoyed the nice patio. Best part was my margarita!!

Best of all...a fantastic Patron Cadillac Margarita!!

Lunch in San Clemente??

I posted in the LA board as well but no answers yet... I am hoping some of my fellow San Diegans have done the 1/2 way lunch meet up with family from the OC

We are meeting the in-laws on Saturday in San Clemente for lunch...any great places for something more than just sandwiches and pizza??? I would love to have a nice entree, a good cocktail and maybe sit outside. We have a 2 month old and a 2.5 year old who will eat anything so a kid menu is not required.
