Culturally Insensitive Takeout

Culturally Sensitive Takeout sounds a little uptight. He/she makes it sound like the term "Oriental" is our equivalent of the Nword. Personally, I wasn't around in an era when it was ever offensive. i just know it's used to describe rugs and other inanimate objects. Last i checked, food is inanimate. CTFO, CST...

Upscaling the Doughnut

@wisenyoung... regardless of whether it's innovative or interesting, it's still an overpriced donut dressed up w/ "novel" bacon flavoring or haute spices. Unfortunately, I've actually tried the lemon pistachio myself because their ever-popular meat pastry was sold out. My wallet and I would've greatly benefited from reading this article prior. I'll gladly pay for good food, but it was anything but...

Honeymoon in Greece!!!

Tzitzikas kai Mermingas, just off Athens' main Syntagma Square, was our favorite meal in Athens. I initially found out about it, scouring the boards on Chowhound before my trip last month. Did NOT disappoint. Had a salad, along with grilled octopus and entree was the Chicken Moussaka. LOVED IT...

Santorini: 1800 or Ambrosia and Nectar?

Just returned from Santorini last week. My wife and I dined at 1800 and I gotta say, while the service was great in comparison to most restaurants in Greece, the food didn't live up to the hype. In response to your question, we paid 130 (60 + 70) euros for two chef chosen meals and while the portions barely qualified as adequate, the flavors just weren't distinctly mediterranean and a bit on the bland side.

As for ginafly's rec of Ginger, I can't endorse or condemn that choice, but coming from the SF Bay Area, I'm never far from really good sushi, so I opted for Vanilia instead which is directly across the way from Ginger. Vanilia had to have been the best meal we had in my 2.5 weeks in Europe (also visited Spain and London). Started out w/ mussels, shared grilled tuna steak and a FANTASTIC plate of seafood pasta. Only meh moment of the meal was dessert, but only because our expectations were blown through the roof from the starter and entrees!

Have fun; would LOVE to go back soon...

El Bulli Dethroned

Heading to Seville, Madrid, & Barcelona in mid-May... Is there an up-and-coming El Bulli substitute? I want to try some inventive cuisine while i'm out there!

Four outta five on that list are in the San Sebastian area, so it's a bit out of the ways.

Grit and Grub in San Francisco's Tenderloin

White not the most inexpensive option in Little Saigon, Pagolac (1/2 block down the street from Turtle Tower) is my go-to place when I'm in the TL... Still have fond memories of their 7 Course Beef

Ask Aida

Congrats Aida!! Caught the first ep, and I GET the concept, yet no offense to the "tech guru" (the quotes to denote whatever title he holds, not to mock his profession/skillset) but I don't know if he provides any added value to the show.

Momofuku Chicken Wings

Tried it once, time consuming...definitely, but really flavorful. Came out a little saltier than i'd hope

Best Burrito San Francisco

Ditto ccbweb... I know the topic is burritos, but La Corneta's got a killer carne asade and prawn (HUGE prawns, btw... way larger than El Farolito, another fav) quesadilla... It definitely warrants a 15 minute BART ride during my lunch breaks

Gas Versus Charcoal

How about those hybrids? I've been looking into the Weber Performer, where it uses charcoal, but has this propane starter unit to get the coals fired up.
