Happy Hour - NW Austin, Domain / Arboretum area

My 3 favorites are still Manuels for 1/2 price appetizers and Mcormicks and Schmicks and Kona Grill for their special happy hour menus

Casual Brunch on Sunday (Not Mexican)

I also love Eastside but you might also try Hyde Park Cafe

R I P part II

I assume this thread is about the Grapevine market in Austin ... there is also one in Round Rock and I called them yesterday to special order something and they did not sound likethey wer shutting down (ie, they took my special order for Lychee Sake !!)

TGIFriday's, Applebee's, or Chili's?

I also agree with this ranking but put both TGIF and Applebees way below Chili's

Georgetown Tx

If you want something more upscale but cheap by Austin standards I recommend Wildfire.
There is also a great little cafe whose name I can't remeber right on the corner of the square in the center of Georgetown and a great mexican dive about 2 blocks norh of the Monument Cafe, which is okay too.

Looking for lavender honey

I think I saw this at the Farmers market in downtown Austin. You can also contact one of the many lavender farms in the area. Do a Google search.

African or Middle Eastern Food in Austin?

My favorite Ethiopian place by far in the Austin area is Taste of Ethiopia on Grand Avenue in Pflugerville. The food is the best I have ever had and the owner is wonderful. Try it !!

Okonomiyaki ?

Does anybody know of a Japanese restaurant in Austin that serves this dish ? It is a Japanese savoury pancake containing a variety of ingredients. I had it in California and it was terrific

Need recommendations for this weekend in Houston

Thanks, Bulldozer. Reef sounds great and is probably going to be on my list. Now on to Italian and Chinese !

Need recommendations for this weekend in Houston

We will be staying at the "Comfort Inn Downtown" on Katy Freeway Friday night and I am looking for a couple of recommendations for "reasonably" priced meals (maybe around $25 per entree or less ?) .

I would like to find either seafood (grilled, not fried) or Chinese or Italian and would like to not have to drive too far since I don't want to have to deal with Friday even rush hour traffic. On Saturday we will be doing the museums so will be close to Hermann Park.

Thanks in advance for your help.

New to Round Rock

Singlemalt, you are way off-base with that statement, as all of the restaurants mentioned here prove. Unless you have been up to Round Rock recently and tried these places you should not be so negative.

Bass Hall Area

If this is the Bass Hall in Austin you might want to move it to the Austin Board. If another city, you should specify which one..

fried catfish

Surprised nobody mentioned Quality Seafood ...

Hummus made Here

I wonder if that is true ..I love Zorba's and eat there all the time and have pretty much tasted everything on their menu and I have tried Tino's twice and been totally disappointed both times, especially in the hummus and the flalafel

Bugatti's in Dallas

Sometimes when you are on a road trip and don't know the area chains are the safest bet. But a few years agao I saw a write-up of this restaurant, which is just north of Love Field on the water and it said it was a family owned restaurant. so we tried it. Being from NY I am fussy about Italian food and Bugatti's did not disappoint. The food and the service were both excellent. We have been back to Dallas 3 more times and Bugatt's has become a tradition. Ate there again last weekend and was not disappointed at all ... food was really good and the service was exceptional. My only issue is the high price of wine by the glass, but, oh well, if that is my only complaint, not bad !!

RIP: Koreana Grill

Sigh, I always enjoyed lunch at Koreana a lot and always wondered how they stayed in business.

Good burger in Arboretum area

I agree with the rec for Houston's, but also love the house special burger at the North by Northwest brewery.

Bread Pudding?

The best breadpudding Ihave ever eaten is my mom's ..and when she comes to visit she insists we go to County Line , so she can have theirs for desert !

McCormick & Schmick

My many experiences at both McCormick and Schmicks here in Austin have been excellent. I have been there literally dozens of times for dinner, many times with friends, and all of our food has been fresh and well prepared and teasy and the service has been top notch.

Chowhound Assignment:Go A Place Never Reviewed On This Board Part II

La Cocina in Round Rock is an interesting blend of Mexican and Italian. Only been there once so far, for lunch, but will definitely return. Check it out here :

Caboose Restaurant near Austin

My reply seems to have disappeared. If you are talking about Round Rock then for many years that was the home of La Margarita which has since moved to a new free-standing building close by. You might want to call them and see if they make this dish. There was another restaurant in that location after La Lamrgarita but they were not there long and I don't remember the name.

Caboose Restaurant near Austin

If this was in Round Rock along Interstate 35 I believe that it used to be La Margarita, which has since built a new freestanding restaurant very close to there, and it was some other place for a very short time and I can't remember the name of that place ..Call la Margarita and se if they make that dish.

Any Ethiopian places?

I was there for lunch on December 16th ...

Best Smoked Turkey?

Sorry I missed the Christmas time frame but if you live up north Johnny T's BBQ place on 620 across from Round Rock High School has the best turkey and pulled pork I have had in ages. I also like his sauce alot (he has a spicy and a regular, which I usually mix together)

Food options in NW Austin/Cedar Park

I had to comment about the mention of only 2 Greek/Meditarean places, Tino's and DiMassi's .... I suggest that you try Zorba's In Round Rock, which I have always liked way better then either of the 2 mentioned in this post. It is good for lunch but even better at dinner.

Any Ethiopian places?

My new favorite Ethiopian place is in Pflugerville, of all places. It is :
Addis Ethiopian Restaurant and Cafe
1466 Grand Avenue Pkwy Ste 100
Pflugerville, TX 78660
512-251-5365

We went with a big group for lunch and did not get the vegetarain buffet but instead ordered almost all of the meat dishes and the vegetarian sampler and it was all wonderful. Also loved the fact that they served in the traditional manner, with ll of the food shared in the middle of the table in a beautiful basket lined with the bread that is also used as eating utensils.

Suggestions for a romantic anniversary dinner?

I have wanted to try the Mansion at judge Hill and it looks like it would fill the romantic bill ...

Thanksgiving:Who Ate What and Where?

McCormick & Schmicks ...I chose it because they were actually cooking turkeys, not turkey breasts, so i had white meat, my husband was able to get dark meat , and my mom decided to have a non-traditional Thanksgiving and ordered from their seafood menu. The food was very good, the prices were reasonable, and the service was excellent.

Carraba's

I grew up in New York City and know what good Italian food is. The 2 Carraba's in Austin Texas, where I now live, serve consistently excellent food, significantly better then any other chain and better then most of the non-chain Italian restaurants available down here. If I lived in NY or another city with a huge 'Little Italy" section maybe I would not frequent them as often, but Iwould still go there for the great bread and for their version of a Peach Bellini and for 3 or 4 of the entrees that can't be beat ...and all of the friends that we have takne there over the years have been very impressed and have all returned.

Pralines

Lammes is famous for their Texas Chewie" Pecan Pralines
